[ I hope this is fine. Breaking canon a bit here.. ]
[ Unless under the utmost dire circumstances, there is always reluctance for Mammon to accept any mission or fulfill any favors without having to voice that he must be paid for it. Collecting money without the actual intention of spending it was, at first, done as a sort of coping mechanism to deal with the curse that was once placed upon him. Now, it was a force of habit, something he simply enjoyed doing. If nothing was being deposited into his bank account, consider him out. Without a threat that would certainly result in his (or, occasionally, a family member's) death, it is otherwise uncommon for him to simply to exert his time and energy for others out of the goodness of his own heart.
And so, what a rare moment this is.
Some nameless, lower ranking member had sought him and Bel out within the Varia headquarters to inform them that they would be leaving for a mission within a few days (apparently Xanxus couldn't have been bothered to get a core member to deliver the information; typical). No surprise there; the two were commonly paired together. Missions came frequently enough, as well. There was nothing within this moment that was out of the ordinary, nothing that would call for a break in routine. Still, Mammon was willing to let a subtle change occur.
He stared at the informant before glancing over to the so called prince through hidden eyes, an instant of silence passing before his quiet voice responded with a simple: ] Fine.
[ No other Varia member would be spared from his nagging, but, just this once, without dismay, he won't comment on his pay. It is his odd way of saying, "I enjoy your company." The gesture is minute, and he wonders if the other will even take notice. He inwardly questions whether or not he actually wants Bel to notice, to inquire about his intentions. If asked, Mammon had not even prepared an adequate answer. How does someone such as himself even begin to explain that he enthralled by another? It was difficult enough for him to come to terms with the fact that he has this annoying crush. This is all very unpremeditated, really. ]
