The Rescue Me Meme

'Cause, sometimes, you just can’t save yourself.

1. A Bad Date - You get a text, a phone call, or maybe you can just see the other person floundering on what clearly must be the worst date of their life. Time to step in and save the day.

2. Prison - Maybe they've been wrongly convicted, or maybe you're an accomplice. Either way, it's jailbreak. Maybe the guards will fall for the old 'wounded prisoner' technique.

3. Taken Hostage - They're being held at gunpoint, either for money or for fun. Maybe you can talk down their captors, or maybe you are a captor, secretly working to help them.

4. Abuse/Neglect - Your body is damaged, your suffering taken it's toll. You can't save yourself anymore. You're wounded, you're starving, maybe even dying. Someone, help.

5. Addiction - Just one more. Nothing bad will happen if you just get one more. Either way, you can't save yourself from this downward spiral. Someone else is going to have to help.

6. Yourself - One bad choice after another, your self-destructive tendencies are going to get the best of you unless someone steps in, quick, to save the day.

7. Climactic Situation - You're hovering over an active volcano, a pit of sharks, about to fall off a cliff. Whatever it is, you've only got precious seconds of life left.

8. Loneliness - You've been secluded, locked away, and the emptiness is overwhelming. You need company, or you might just drown.

9. Unwanted Social Function - A family reunion, your three o'clock board meeting, whatever it is, you desperately don't want to go. Hopefully your good buddy can come up with a distraction.

10. A Bad Romance - You're trapped in a relationship that's headed south, and you can't seem to get away from the other person. Looks like you need a helping hand, maybe a prince charming.

She was shivering again, frightened and a little shocky. Her head went down and her hands covered her face. In any other situation, for any other person, she'd be advising them to do just this. But she couldn't do this now. She was still terrified that something would go wrong with this whole plan - that Ra's would find out about Jack and keep him somehow, torture him or kill him repeatedly.

And now, to face losing Malcolm too? It was too much. But she couldn't tell him that. Not when he felt it was what he had to do to make his dead family proud of him.

"Okay." Her voice was little more than a whisper, but all she could manage. She turned her head, trying to rest it against the side of the plane, wanting to just close her eyes and disappear. If only she wasn't so damn cold.

Malcolm stripped off his heavier over tunic and gets up to drape it over her. "Mercy you can't go to sleep until Dr. Snow can look at you," he says, "you might have head trauma." His voice is filled with grief and anger and fear. "I'm not happy about any of this. But I was willing to do whatever it took to bring you home alive...even let Ra's kill me. I love you that much."

"I know," she said miserably. "I know you did all of this for me and I know you would be willing to die for me. If I could have just fought a little harder..."

Mercy wrapped his tunic around her a little tighter, but she couldn't stop the shivering. "I don't ever want you to die for me. I want you to live for me. I'd rather be dead myself than have you throw away your life for me. I love you that much too. So... I can understand why you agreed to their terms. I'm just... so terrified of losing you."

She looked up at him finally. "Could you just hold me for a while?"

Malcolm settles beside her and wraps his arms gently around her. "Stop that," he says knowing her well, "you were up against a team of assassins who train their whole lives for this kind of thing. Hell they would have taken me down pretty damm easy and I know their tricks. You are alive and that is all that matters to me. I can go to whatever fate is waiting for me knowing you and Jack will be out there waiting for me."

"And we will be," she assured him, snuggling in close with only a small wince when she bumped a damaged spot. "We will. Even if we need to break you out of prison to be with you."

She always felt better in his arms - or Jack's arms. Best when the three were all together. But she'd have to get back to accepting that she didn't always get what she wanted.

Malcolm chuckles and it has a watery sound to it, like he could cry if given the slightest push to do so. "Do not give Jack the idea to break me out of prison. He'll do it and when our secret of swapping will be out. Iron Heights won't be too bad. At least there won't be a ocean between us if I went to Lian Yu."

Mercy held on tight, hearing how close he was to tears and knowing how close she was. "I won't let him give you away," she whispered. "And I'll never let go of you, no matter what."

He leans into kiss her deeply needing the connection more than he would ever admit. Jack and Mercy were his everything and more than he deserved. "I love you both," he says, "I always will. I promise."

"I know," she whispered back. "I know. And if I didn't have this stupid head injury and there weren't a ton of strangers watching our every move, I'd show you just how much."

"We can worry about joining the mile high club later," Malcolm says tiredly, "I just want to get you home and patch you up the cuddle and meditate for hours until Jack comes home."

"That sounds like the best plan ever," Mercy said. She took a deep breath and let it out again. "Can we just stay like this till we land?"

"As long as you are comfortable I'm okay with staying like this for hours," Malcolm says nuzzling her as best he can.

"Good. I don't ever want to let you go," she said softly. "At least not until I absolutely have to."

Malcolm chuckles. "It might make daily life a little hard, but you won't hear me complaining."

"Could be tricky," she admitted. "But if anyone could make it work it would be the three of us!"

"We've managed to deal with other issues living with three people brings up," Malcolm admits, "this is just another hurdle to get past."

"Living as three has been tricky at times," Mercy admitted, thinking of the first night they'd all slept together in the same bed. Figuring out who went where and where all the arms and legs went had been quite a puzzle - especially since at first they'd been too tentative to laugh at one another.

The first time they'd all had sex together...
