The Rescue Me Meme

'Cause, sometimes, you just can’t save yourself.

→ Post with your character’s name, canon, and any preferences in the subject line

1. A Bad Date - You get a text, a phone call, or maybe you can just see the other person floundering on what clearly must be the worst date of their life. Time to step in and save the day.

2. Prison - Maybe they've been wrongly convicted, or maybe you're an accomplice. Either way, it's jailbreak. Maybe the guards will fall for the old 'wounded prisoner' technique.

3. Taken Hostage - They're being held at gunpoint, either for money or for fun. Maybe you can talk down their captors, or maybe you are a captor, secretly working to help them.

4. Abuse/Neglect - Your body is damaged, your suffering taken it's toll. You can't save yourself anymore. You're wounded, you're starving, maybe even dying. Someone, help.

5. Addiction - Just one more. Nothing bad will happen if you just get one more. Either way, you can't save yourself from this downward spiral. Someone else is going to have to help.

6. Yourself - One bad choice after another, your self-destructive tendencies are going to get the best of you unless someone steps in, quick, to save the day.

7. Climactic Situation - You're hovering over an active volcano, a pit of sharks, about to fall off a cliff. Whatever it is, you've only got precious seconds of life left.

8. Loneliness - You've been secluded, locked away, and the emptiness is overwhelming. You need company, or you might just drown.

9. Unwanted Social Function - A family reunion, your three o'clock board meeting, whatever it is, you desperately don't want to go. Hopefully your good buddy can come up with a distraction.

10. A Bad Romance - You're trapped in a relationship that's headed south, and you can't seem to get away from the other person. Looks like you need a helping hand, maybe a prince charming.

"Jack, no!" In her muddled mind she couldn't remember that Jack would come back to life - that he couldn't be killed permanently. All she could think was that one of the men she loved so desperately was going to trade his life for that of the other. She began to struggle against her bonds again, only making them tighter. "There has to be another way! Please..."

"Mercy calm down," Jack said softly, "you are going to hurt yourself if you struggle anymore. Breath and focus sweetheart. They aren't going to hurt me you know that. If we don't try this Ra's will keep coming after us and believe me Malcolm was pissed this time. If the League tries again he will burn Nanda to the ground and frankly I won't stop him."

It took her a moment, but she managed to get her breath under control and her head clear enough for his words to make sense. "Can't die," she whispered. "Right? Can't die? Okay... Okay."

Her poor lovers to be put through this.

"Sorry," she said quietly. "I tried. Fought really hard. I didn't want you two to have to come rescue me."

She had fought valiantly, taking out at least two of them and leaving enough destruction behind that they'd be cleaning the house for weeks.

"We saw," Jack said softly, "you did really well sweetheart and both of us are so very proud of you." Jack had heard guard's talking about the fight too and how scared of Mercy they all were. He got one of her hands free and started working on the other one. "And for the record we will always come rescue you no matter what. We love you."

She wasn't going to cry, she wasn't going to cry. Dammit, she was crying. But it wasn't going to stop her. She moved her hand gently, trying to get feeling back into it.

"I knew you'd come for me, but I'd hoped I could fight hard enough that you wouldn't have to. It's put you both in danger." Okay, yes, they'd known something was coming, but if she'd been just a little quicker.

"Where's Malcolm?"

"Down at the end of the hallway hidden in an alcove," Jack says, "once I get you free we are going to make a break for him and I'm going to body block you so you don't get hit by any arrows as I get taken down. He'll slide in and take you prisoner and sneak you out a secret passage way to the Queen jet. Then he'll drop you off in Starling and come back to get me with Oliver."

He was going to die to protect her and Malcolm. Yes, maybe he wouldn't stay dead, but the death was still painful and the resurrection even worse. And arrows. It could take a long time to die that way.

It just broke her heart to think she'd put them in this position. Logic maybe wasn't her strong suite right now.

"Okay,"she says after a moment. "Just please, please, be careful."

She shook her legs trying to get some circulation back, but still stumbled a little when she tried to stand. "Just give me a minute or I'm going to get you both caught when I can't run fast enough."

Jack nods and stands near enough that she can lean on him if and when she wants to. He'd carry her but he doesn't want to risk Mercy getting riddled with arrows too. Malcolm would kill him again for it once he woke up. "Malcolm will carry you to the jet as soon as you get clear of the building don't worry, you only have to run for a little bit."

She leaned against him for a moment, getting herself together, then stretched up to kiss him. She had to. He was going out to die for her and Malcolm.

"All right," she murmured against his lips. "I'm ready now."

Jack takes the moment to kiss her back even though he knows they don't have time for this. He doesn't have any idea when he'll get the chance to kiss his lovers again, Malcolm had made it clear as crystal that this could go wrong and if Ra's found out about Jack the immortal was doomed. But to save Mercy and clear Malcolm's debt he'd try just about anything.

He takes her hand and squeezes it. "Stay behind me until you hear Malcolm whisper the code word in your ear. The don't look back."

Mercy wanted so badly to linger over the kiss, but knew she couldn't - they had already lost too much time getting her on her feet. She held tightly to Jack's hand, nodding to let him know she understood.

"Okay. Let's go."

But she already knew she'd have to look back, no matter how horrible the sight was.

"I'm ready."

Jack nods and takes her hand trying his best to gently pull him after her as he begins to run. At first it looks like they might get to the right point safely when Ra's himself appears out of nowhere several League members standing behind him. "Clever as you may be you are not getting out of here alive Al Sah Her." Jack draws himself up to his full height and mimics Malcolm's chill tone perfectly.

"You stole what was not yours to steal," he says, "I warned you I would do whatever it took to save her.Even fulfill my blood debt to you."

If she couldn't smell the difference between them, even Mercy might have believed Jack to actually be Malcolm. She didn't think they were they were supposed to be yet, so, although Ra's frankly terrified her, she pulled herself up as best she could and tried to ready herself to fight or flee as Jack directed.

Jack can hear the bows being drawn back and he takes a deep breath as the first arrow is loosed and strikes his shoulder. He winces but doesn't fall to his knees until the next few arrows hit him. He glances to his left as a League member moves to his side and firmly pulls Mercy away from him. The arrows start flying fast and Ra's moves forward kneeling beside Jack as he starts whispering in his ear.

The League member leans in to Mercy and whispers in her ear and he gently pulls on her. "We are going to need lots of chocolate to deal with this." He stresses the word chocolate so she pays attention.

Mercy struggled a bit for show, but she'd recognized the voice and the words. "Hot chocolate," she said under her breath, and let him drag her away. Her injuries wouldn't have let her fight for long anyway, but she knew she had to make it look good.

And she couldn't help but cry out as another arrow struck Jack.

Malcolm keeps his walk steady and purposeful. He can't afford to turn and look even though he wants to. It does appear he mouthing words though. The same prayer that Ra's is whispering in Jack's ear. He can hear the slide of metal on leather and he whispers. "Don't look now," he hisses, "don't Mercy. You'll never be able to unsee it."

Jack groans as Ra's stabs the immortal through the heart. "The blood debt has been paid."

She knew she shouldn't, but she had to. And when she saw Ra's stab Jack in the heart, she couldn't help but cry out again. "No!"

Then she covered her hand with her mouth and let the tears fall as Malcolm continued along, his grip keeping her upright and moving.

Malcolm slaps his hand along the wall and a panel slides back.He pulls her inside and waits until it slides shut before pulling his hood off. "I'm sorry," he says his voice choking on a sob," Mercy I'm sorry you got caught in this."

She turned and buried her face in his chest, holding on to him for dear life. "Oh, Malcolm."

She couldn't let him go, couldn't stop crying."Are you alright?" she managed through the tears. "I'm sorry I couldn't fight harder. I tried, I really did."

He wraps his arms around her tight and holds on for dear life. "I'm alright," he says trying to sooth her, "I'm fine. Jack and I got home not long after they cleared the area. We started tracking you as soon as I worked out what had happened." It had taken every favor, every outlet and almost all the money Malcolm had left to get back here without blowing the plan early and even then he'd made promises to people he had no desire to deal with.

He now owed Amanda Waller at least two missions with her damm task force to say nothing of what he now owed both Team Arrow and Team Flash. "We need to get moving sweetheart. The jet is on a time frame. If we don't make it we get stuck."

Mercy nodded, pulling herself together. "Okay. I'm okay. Let's go."

She shuddered. "This is the last place I'd want to be stuck. Especially after..." Her voice trailed off and she could again see Jack, run through with that sword. "Okay. Jet. We can make it."

If she knew what he'd done for her, she'd have told him she wasn't worth that, no one was. Not that she wouldn't have given everything she was and everything she had for either of her lovers, but she still couldn't quite believe anyone would do that for her.

Malcolm hurries them along the passage keeping his ears and eyes open for trouble. But no one attacked them and they made it to the Queen jet and he hurried them inside not letting himself relax until the plane takes off.

It hurt, leaving Jack behind. Dead.

Yes, he wouldn't stay dead, but that didn't mean he didn't feel the pain. Or that he wasn't dead right now. And what if Ra's somehow discovered who or what he was? What other horrors might be subject Jack to? She shuddered and wrapped her arms tightly around herself.

Now that they were safe and the adrenaline was wearing off, the aches and pains from her injuries were coming back in full force. She didn't want Malcolm to see. He was upset enough already, so she just sat as quietly and still as she could.

Malcolm, however, walked over to her first aid kit in hand. "Mercy look at me I need to start cleaning those cuts on your face," he said gently needed the work of helping her to distract his own mind, "I'll have a doctor friend of Oliver's look you over when we land for anything bigger.'

"I'm okay," she said quietly, but nodded to let him know he could do as he wished.

His first aid care soothed more than her face and she let herself rest her hand on whatever part of him was in reach as he moved around. "How many favors did you have to call in?" she asked. "How much did... this... cost you?"
