It starts out, well, innocently enough. They're pure, untainted, a light that's yet to be touched by this world. Somehow, you feel the need to keep them that way, conscious realization or not, no matter how that seems to go against your jaded character and bitter heart. But maybe those things are your reason. You've been beaten down by the foul weather of this world; they shouldn't have to suffer that same fate. There needs to be someone good left, somewhere. It's a rare comforting thought.

Your feelings are platonic, at the beginning. Then, their light and their infectious idealism begin to touch you, in a way you thought wasn't possible anymore.

...you're still going to guard them, keep them happy and unmarred. It's just that now, you realize the corruption you may be staving away from them is you.

It had been a very rainy evening and a poor night for miracles. As the angelic with an exceedingly ridiculous name flapped in the high midnight air, she wished her clothes were as weatherproof as her wings. Though she had passed beyond homo-sapien and into homo-celestis some time ago, Lollipop Jones still found that the right combination of wind and wet would render anyone cold and uncomfortable. Admittedly, some morose, brooding types were able to take the rain and enhance their mystique, standing dramatically on a church rooftop or skyscraper, silhouetted against the thundering sky with the lightning an apt metaphor for inner turmoil, but Lollipop was not one of those types; all the rain made her was somewhat more soggy than usual.

Everything about the girl, save perhaps her huge white wings, bespoke of the beach; her honey colored skin, long limbs, blonde hair, and tie-dye skirt seemed hopelessly anachronistic in this town of grimy slums, bustling neon, and sharp office buildings.

When a crack of electricity whizzed past her ear, the angelic yelped and gave up the wings in a flurry of doves. Moving as a flock was faster than going by simple wing-beat and reforming in a cloud of birds had a certain flair, but being in so many bodies, so many brains at once was a dizzying prospect. The nearest rooftop, however, was mercifully close. As soon as she'd reformed into a properly shaped person, Lollipop walked to the edge and sat down, letting her legs dangle off the side. Blue sky eyes gazed into inky clouds for several minutes, until something prickled at her senses. Curious, she rose to her feet and walked towards the feeling, dove-hopping from one rooftop to the next, hoping to you-know-who that an errant bolt of electricity wouldn't send her plummeting to the ground. Those things hurt.
