TERRAGENESIS MEME or the SUDDENLY SUPERPOWERED MEME with a twist.

“This doesn’t destroy. It gives life, new life. We finally get to find out what we become.”

Terragenesis, an ancient alien procedure that has been around for centuries, perhaps millennia. Not everyone has "unique" DNA that leaves them with abilities but there's always a chance that you might. From being injected with alien DNA to being born different, there are a number of ways you could end up inhuman. Now here's an opportunity for your character to find out "What they become" on a global scale. Roll for your role and pick a scenario. Enjoy your sudden but inevitable abilities - and the potential ramifications thereof.

C. Choose your own adventure.

1. NO EFFECT congratulations you dodged a serious bullet. You may be dead or dying - poisoned by inhuman crystal technology or you may be watching your friends and loved ones being mutated but you're normal. Hooray! Or boo! Either or.
2. COOL POWER BRO the thing about inhuman powers is that you're amped up by ten. Powers that we've seen so far include causing avalanches and moving mountains. Do you light fires with your mind? Control people's thoughts? Tap into magic? turn into things and turn human again? there are lots of options.
3. UNLUCKY OR EXTRA LUCKY? the more degraded the DNA the more likely it is you might end up with a physical mutation in addition to some form of ability. You get a power yes, but you're also butt ugly. Common mutations include spikes, no eyes (or perhaps extra eyes?) animal features, generally terrible things that happen. You literally cannot pass for a human being anymore. But hey! You can also build really cool alien technology. Makes it worth it right?

SCENARIOS

1. WHAT'S HAPPENING TO ME: There's been an explosion. Or you've been dragged into the dark, and suddenly there's this mist and stuff's happening. You break out of it and you're changed! You're hideous! You still look normal but you feel like hell! Were you prepared for this? Was it expected? Did you always want to secretly be ~~an x-man~~ Inhuman? Or is this a complete and total surprise?
2. THIS IS NOT WHAT I WANTED: whatever happened - if you wanted it or not - you've gotta deal with it. That means if you have a brand new tail or if you're suddenly generating bolts of ice with your hands or able to leap tall buildings in a single bound you've gotta make the most of it. There is no cure...
3. THAT DOESN'T MEAN I WON'T LOOK FOR ONE.: because having three eyes and being able to control people with your thoughts is totally curable right? Right? absolutely right. Means that some people who didn't get so lucky could help you right? Of course. Your bros are still your bros even though you now have scales and can lift six tons right?
4. BUDDY UP IT'S TIME TO LEARN ABOUT YOUR NEW ABILITIES Partner up with another inhuman or a human bro and learn about yourself. Test your new abilities, run rampant, get comfort. This is the obligatory hurt-comfort option. Honestly your human friends may turn out to be the most supportive, or you might make a new inhuman pal who can sympathize with what you're going through.
5. ABSOLUTE POWER CORRUPTS ABSOLUTELY Inevitably you are going to be tempted to use these powers for financial gain right? Or alternatively for the good of mankind but you're freakin' hideous and gross. Or you could probably force your enemies to do whatever you wanted them to. Why not just give in and do it?
6. WITH GREAT POWER COMES GREAT RESPONSIBILITY You've gained control over your abilities, or you're still learning, and you've decided that the thing to do is go off and use such powers! For the good of mankind! Never mind the potential destruction that could come with it! never mind that you are literally hideous!
7. SMUT OPTION: Smut with your powers. Superpowered people, heroes and villains getting it on. Can't not have a smut option right?
8. WILDCARD: Mix, match, make up your own scenario. What makes this different from other superpower canons is that there's the possibility to look really awful involved in it. Triton's a fish, Karnak looks like that. This is the place to make a terrible AU. Or play with the powers you already have and do new stuff with them. Ready? GO.

[Grant Ward is normally not the kind Steve would bother with. Steve's not a cruel man by any means. The narrative Agent- Director Coulson creates is less than kind. The story makes Grant sound like the burning, skeleton monster he's become long before the mist touched his skin. That's not the only point of view he's getting. A young woman named Kara who has endured horrors at the hands of HYDRA paints him as her savior; he helped her regain her identity. That for obvious reasons moves him. He knows what he needs to do or at least offer.]

May I have a word?

[This is what happened. Terragenesis of sorts (surprise surprise) and Ward caught in the middle, caught in the crossfire (he's sick of fire. Literally sick of it and it happened. He changed, lived, burned.

And kept burning.

The fire that was his birth destroyed a building - mostly empty - and then there was Grant Ward screaming, staring at his features in a puddle of water - or the lack thereof. He's little more then a grinning skull.

He thinks he might have gone mad then, might have vanished - he knows he's vanished. He knows he grabbed the first thing he could find - a motorcycle - and he drove off.

SHIELD reached out and caught him - sent him to a cabin that had been flame proofed. Grant Ward, Literal flaming skeleton grant ward.

He hasn't seen Kara or Skye for what feels like years. On his honor to stay put. Are there people out there who will keep me here? what do you think? Do you think I'll want to stay?

I think you want help.

That's when Captain America showed up at his door and to his credit doesn't seemingly flinch. May I have a word?]

Come in.

[His voice sounds different, lower harsh and gravelly. The place is covered in scorch marks. So desperate for human contact, for anything.]

I'd offer you a chair but we're out.

[They're burned.]

[OOC: Rolled a three. Pulled up Nephilim Physiology though; however, making it so her Etheral form is completely inhuman.]

[OOC: Rolled 2. She already had healing powers, but let's tag on Discord Manipulation. Thanks random powers.]

[Rolled a 2, with Neutral Empowerment. Which is going to make things really interesting.]

[Rolled a 3. Have fun with stone mimicry and the ability to control it. Not bad for a cyborg right?]

[Zell here is stuck with a 3 and... Drink Empowerment. Since I rolled 3, I think it would work best with this power where, instead of always having a physical mutation, individual drinks have different effects on Zell's appearance as well as his powers!]

[Rolled 2, Photokinetic Regeneration. Eh, could be worse.]

[ How awful is it that he got a 3? I guess we'll go with part kanima. Got temporal monster physiology for his power. Maybe one hand can slow down a person's time and the other can speed it up? If it's out of control, he could be freezing people and turning them into dust. Have fun with that. ]

[ Rolled a 2. Corrupted Environment Manipulation; things tend to go pretty Silent Hill when he gets stressed out (which kind of happens a lot thanks to his family; good going, guys). ]

[When Phil Coulson was young he was different. It started early. He could open a door and it would lead to the wrong place. A closet door would open up to a snowy hillside somewhere, or the bathroom door suddenly opened up into a dental office for no reason. Door Manipulation. He doesn't remember what happened or even when. That part of his life is a blank for some reason, and the power was something his parents tried to make him forget. To hide. An incident that cost his fathers life made him hide his power. When his mother died the same day, years later, he seemed to forget the power completely.]

[Now in the current times, once in a while strange things happen. SHIELD has fallen, his group of people are falling apart and Phil has opened a door to a beach a few times now, considering actually going off for a while. He never does, and he closes the door before anyone sees.]

[I can tag with a young Phil or current Phil, so come at me kids. Come at me.]

[Ward as a new-inhuman and their "reunion."]

[It's one thing to have Skye throw up her hands and disappear into the void, the mists, it's another for HYDRA to take Lincoln and Mike out, it's a third thing entirely that there's no bullet in the HYDRA soldier's hands. Instead there's a flash, a bright warm light and fire before there's a smell. A smell of cooking human meat for just a moment and then it's gone before there's just a pile of singed ...everything.

And ward.

Standing there with slightly smoking hands.]

Not so long ago, Mike was a Special Forces soldier in the Middle East. He'd been tapped for black ops because of his ties to one Charles Graiman - neighbor, father of his childhood sweetheart, and military contractor - and he was very, very good at what he did. An exemplary soldier, executing mission after mission without hesitation. But then, something went odd.

He can't remember what. There are years of his memory missing. One moment, he was on his way to an operation, and the next, he was waking up in a VA hospital, soon after to be dropped off in Vegas, with odd memories of needles and screaming. All he knows now is that no matter how the guys in his bar come after him when it's time to kick them out, he can counter them without thinking, and he always seems to be just a little stronger than they are.

He's pretty sure those fragmented memories explain how he can do these things, but given how those nightmares keep coming back, he's not sure he wants to know in any more detail.

[On the 3-ish side of 2, Shireen's dubious gift is neuro-psychic knowledge. Sent through the mist by her power-crazed father and over-spiritual mother's morally gray religiously fanatic personal assistant of sorts only to be scorned for the ugly scarring that it gave her on top of the power (which would be cool if, you know, she'd opted for it herself) she's kind of feeling like a walking "be careful what you wish for," except it wasn't her own wish.]

[The mission went south fast. That's what ward's aware of. Coulson had sent Kara and he ahead to see if it was a trap right before that click, that beep and that bang and then the entire chamber filling with mist.

Cal may have mentioned something along those lines. "Kara! Ka-" They're both covering in rock from the bottom up. The last thing that he sees before his eyes close and he dreams for a moment, just a moment - is Kara's desperate look to him.

Then silence.

Chilled cold silence and the sense of liars. All of them liars and a cold feeling blowing from the wind before he feels everything ...itch and stretch. Itch and stretch. He feels chilled, the fire that's in his nature burning in a different way. There's a breath of fresh air across his - fingers? The burning gets worse.

There's a crack in the stone, then a second, then a third and his dreams of running through the snow vanish. There's a second crack and then a third before one bright yellow eye appears and then another. The rest of it is crawling his way out, shaking away from the stone and there's...

It's Ward but there's more of Ward. The sound of ripping clothing as his arms grow out of their sleeves - face turned away from her. He's blowing up - no taller but broader, thicker. He's too busy trying to tear off his shirt and jacket to care. There's hair Everywhere thick black hair slowly fading to grayish white.

He snarls and it sounds more animal then man.]

K-

[Cough. He pulls at the jacket and rips it away, shirt stretching to it's limit]

Kara - you with me?

[What's happening, what's happening dear god what's happening]

[She thought working with these guys was a shit idea. It hadn't been a BAD plan, after all, they all split up to search but.... but it was still a shit idea. She liked the home they had together and now that was ruined.]

[But it didn't matter, so long as she was with Grant. That was all that mattered.]

[As they were trapped though, the sinking feeling of just how shit this mission really was started to weigh in. She looked to Ward, scared and then suddenly... she doesn't know. She couldn't move, couldn't talk, and everything felt so silent, like the world had simply filled in and voided out. The silence was frightening but more so it was almost painful, like a pressure pushing in on her head at her ears.]

[Kara doesn't know how long she was out of it, for all she knows she was floating in a void of nothing but pressure. She felt something crumbling around her, and felt her body shake as she started to fall from her previously frozen stance.]

[Her mouth was open, like she was yelling, but there was no sound. As a matter of fact, what ever Ward might have said? It was lost to her ears. It might even be lost to HIS ears, as everything in the space seemed to be removed, silent, lost. No sound at all.]

[At the moment she didn't realize she was in the space with a bear. All she knew was there was pressure around her head and no sound what so ever, like she had gone completely deaf. Bunched over she pulled her hands over her head, panicking for a moment longer.]

[Give her a moment and she'll take a breath and realize she's alone with a beast and Wards town clothing on the ground.]

[The situation got out of control, that was for sure, and Phil felt a great moment of dread to feel that he had nearly got Skye back only to watch her be taken away again. "I almost had her!" He had cursed more to himself.]

[As someone stepped behind him, gun pulled he turned, pointing his own gun, just about to let one go into the guy, only to stop, wide eyed as he watched fie spread and the man crumple. Ward stood there, giving him a look, hands smoking... yeah, they needed to talk.] That's new...

[he said carefully, staring at Ward a moment, frowning. Here wasn't the best place for it though.] Yeah, I think we should.

[Either 1 or an immune system manipulation-related 2, take your pick.]

[There's no noise. That's what makes him panic. Get up.

They are laughing together, "This is absolutely hideous. I mean really."

"I like it." She smiled, tugging on her hair. The picture was a cowboy riding off into the sunset, "It's wild and free. Like us."

He slid a hand around her waist, "You and your western gear. So that's it? That's our decor?"

"...You don't like it?"

"I like what you like."

He leaned in close to kiss her.

"I choose what you choose."

He's top heavy. that's what he notices first. He's top heavy and moving with unnatural speed as he climbs to his feet and starts over to her. there's something sprouting on his head, pulling, skin flaps that fill with fur - a pair of ears. ears.

What ever happened in the mists was wrong. So very wrong and Kara's sitting there with her hands over her head.

He thinks of her first.

Never mind that the thing who thinks of her first is a bear that's built like a brick wall covered with the remains of a dark red shirt and tufts of white fir, large ham-like hands and nails. His face has elongated into a pale snout filled with teeth and it's-]

What's wrong. are you okay? Are you-

[There is a change. A change that comes with the obelisk. This is her destiny]

Kara say something.

[Never mind him. Never mind how weird it feels to move. How hot it feels. It's like the hair is getting longer.]

Kara!

[He moves to wrap his arms around her]
