The List

The Butterfly Effect: It has been said that something as small as the flutter of a butterfly's wing can ultimately cause a typhoon halfway around the world. ~ Chaos Theory

1. A personal divergence - Something different from canon happened to them or their friends and family and acquaintances, etc. Usually, the rest of this AU world is mostly the same as canon - but not always.

2. A societal divergence - Something a bit bigger happened, something big enough to effect society as a whole.

3. The divergence point was way back - Many things happened differently, and so this world is quite different from the canon one.

4. Genderbending - Their gender/sex has been flipped in this AU world.

And for something entirely different: A totally new AU, in which canon elements have been replaced.

5. Historical AU - welcome to life in a different time period entirely. The stone ages? The Victorian era?

6. The obligatory High School AU - Exactly what it says on the tin.

7. The sci-fi/fantasy world - Was there a door at the back of the closet into Narnia? Is it the 51^st century? Perhaps they're dragon riders.

And anything else you happen to come up with.

He really did wish he knew what happened. The last thing he remembered, he was on the ship with the Daleks, and then they shot him. He crawled, still regenerating, over to Jack's corpse and took the manipulator. It wasn't until he first landed, now freshly regenerated, in the back yard of some young Scottish girl that he became very aware of how badly this regeneration was going to go.

He tried to counter the expelling autron energy, but without the TARDIS, everything was very difficult. It mussed up the vortex manipulator, and off he popped into the future. He just hoped the little girl was all right.

"Amelia!" he called, sluggishly pounding at the door to her house. "Are you all right?"
