The Bounty Hunter Meme

There’s something about tracking someone or something down. Whether it’s for money, glory, personal vendetta, or a fun hobby; hunting is your thing. Maybe it wasn’t until now and this is your first time seeking out your catch, or you’re forced to due to personal reasons or hunting is just an aspect of your job.

Out in space, the old west, feudal Japan, medieval times, fantasy medieval, or a combination; even an already existing canon: any setting you want! Get out there, maybe bring a partner or two, and find your quarry.

1. Hunter: Bounty
Good ol' money. There’s a bounty board posted, physically or digitally, and it doesn't matter who the mark is. You've got bills to pay. Perhaps you don’t even use the public boards, maybe you got contacted privately by someone you know or don’t know. Find your target and turn them in. Dead, alive, whatever your contact wants. Unless you don’t care...

2. Hunter: Monster
Are there one too many creatures around, or is there a specific one that everyone wants to take down, except that it’s nearly impossible? Various types of Dragons (Krayt, Red, Ancient, etc.), Behemoths, Sea Serpents, Colossus (Nature, Volcanic, Ice, Mechanical, etc.), Wild Beasts, any fantastical creature you can think of goes here. Collecting ingredients, making weapons/armor/clothes/decorations/trophies, or maybe you’re just really hungry? Take them down (if you can) and maybe better the world! Or unwittingly end up upsetting the natural order of things. Unless that was your intention from the get go...

3. Hunter: Hunter
The apex of prey, and the best way to prove that you are the best of the best! Or maybe this is a rival you feel has to be taken down? Either way this is going to be dangerous and you know it, so do they. Pull out all the stops, take no prisoners. Is your mark a romantic love interest and this all just a game between the two of you? In that case have fun. Unless this is an ex and the games end now...

4. Hunter: Supernatural
Not everyone knows that there are other facets to this reality, or how deadly it can be. But you do and you've sworn to strike down what most consider evil. Vampires, Werewolves, Demons, Spirits, Zombies, Ghosts, and anything else related to the supernatural go here. Are you one of them and defected to becoming a hunter? Good luck convincing your new fellow hunters of that. Maybe you’re a double agent to take them down from the inside? Unless you find a reason not to...

5. You: Hunter
Uh oh. You’re the one being hunted. Whether it’s someone or something else, time to scramble and find a sanctuary. Could be one that’s an impenetrable fortress or perhaps neutral territory that has too much red tape. Or is it time to just knuckle up and take your pursuer down? Either way you’re being chased. Unless that’s what you wanted all along for a bigger scheme of your own...

6. Hunter: WILDCARD
Anything goes! Something not listed here? Do it anyway! Want to combine a few and have zombie half-dragon? Do it! Ready to give your Hunter S. Thompson muse a real voice test? Do it! Are you here just to work some smut in? DO THAT! Whatever your heart’s desire is exactly what this option’s here for. Unless you’d rather just roll again...

[Maya'd need some AUing to be a Hunter of any kind. But throw an idea and I can probably make something work. As Hunted we can go for something more mundane or I can use my Teen Wolf AU for her where she's a Siren. Or any other idea thrown at me, I'm not picky.]

[But lets be real, she's almost certainly hunted. Unless we're hunting valuables, then she can hunt those.]

[ Fox needed the money to fix the Great Fox up - as usual. So he took the job of finding the bounty hunter known as Samus Aran. He was told she was extremely dangerous, had a suit of armor, and not much else. He'd taken on evil scientists, dinosaurs, and a bunch of other enemies - so he's not too worried about taking on a single fellow bounty hunter. ]

[More like the hunter's sidekick who patches him/her up when things go south?

Or he could be a bounty to collect and deliver someplace. Best mark. And by that I mean a loud, angry one. :V]

[Bounty hunter. Devil hunter. Close enough, right?]

[It's a living.]

You see? Nothing in there, not even a bear. And definitely not a monster.

['There' in this case happens to be a cave, the sixth one Davis has guided this man to so far. And like all the others, it's empty. But then, he knows it's empty. He was expecting to be empty. No better way to hide than in plain sight, right?

It's been seventeen years now that Davis has lived out here, in this desolate stretch of Appalachia. Seventeen years since he learned that not all Kaiju came in city-destroying sizes, that some came much smaller than that. That some came human-sized. Sleeper agents, they're called, the true first wave of the Kaiju invasion. Artificial creatures that were sent into this world looking human, looking for all the world like human children, but were nothing of the sort. They were the eyes and ears of creators they'd never know, growing into adulthood until the time was right for them to cast off their adaptive camoflauge. Do what damage they could until they were inevitably taken down.

He was one of the worst. Labeled 'Doomsday', he'd proven more destructive than any of the sleepers before him, beasts with names like 'Parasite' and 'Metallo'. They had kill counts in the dozens, but when he emerged... the final death toll numbered into four digits before it was all said and done. Before he was finally gunned down like the others and bled out in the streets like a dog.

But he wasn't like the others. He didn't die.

After that incident, Davis knew he could never live in a city again. So he fled into the most deserted part of America he could get to, determined that if he must live then he could at least live out his days in seclusion, never hurting anyone again. And he tried. But the part of him that's Kaiju, that was made to destroy humanity, that didn't die either. And that's why he's taken up this role, passing himself off as a mountain man who knows these woods to anyone who comes looking for the beast that preys on the neighboring towns. He tries to discourage them, to convince them that it's all the work of superstituous minds and wild animals and nothing else.

But this one... Davis doesn't know if he'll be able to shake this one off the scent so easily. The man's intensity makes him uneasy.]

I'm sorry you had to come out all this way just to be disappointed, Mr. Becket, but it's like I've been telling you. If there was anything in these woods out of the ordinary, I'd have seen it.

We’ll see.

[ Raleigh’s expression is stony; lips tight, brows knitted as he stares into the inky black of the cave. Deep indentions in his forehead from years and years of tormented heartbreak are far more prominent than they were in his youth, moreso when he frowns, which he’s currently doing. Something doesn’t feel right.

Raleigh’s been doing this a long time – longer than most of the corps. He’s developed an uncanny knack for sniffing out these bastards and bringing them down and tends to use means that maybe the Marshal wouldn’t approve of.

Raleigh doesn’t care. He doesn’t really care about much of anything these days, beyond the revenge that he thirsts for after the death of his brother.

They all used to go out in teams, strike groups to counter the attacks. They got good - damn good. And with that comes the cockiness and despite Yancy's repeated attempts to shake it out of him, Raleigh was young and arrogant and it cost him his brothers life.

Never again would he be so bold to assume that he was the best of the best, or on top.

And he hadn't given up - not in this lifetime. ]

Can we go in?

Sure, as long as we're slow and steady about it. Just because there's nothing in there that could kill you doesn't mean there's not a skunk that could make you wish you were dead.

[ Pulling a short machete off of his backpack, Davis hacks at the growth of thorns around the cave entrance until there's enough room for the both of them to enter. He's deep in his persona now, affecting the attitude of a woodsman patiently humoring some city slicker's wild goose chase. It certainly helps that he looks the part.

Davis has gotten a lot of practice, too, over the years. More and more as time's gone on, unfortunately. He doesn't like it. This life he's made for himself, as messed up as it is, can't last if lawmen keep coming out trying to get a whiff of his scent. Not even lawmen now, no, now he's got a bonafide member of the corps on his hands.

Davis doesn't want to kill him. And not just because it'd bring the full wrath of the Pan Pacific down on his head either.

He leads the way in, but then steps to the side so Raleigh can look around to his heart's content. It's your search, pal, I'm just the guide.

And, admittedly, he still can't quite shake the feeling of unease that he got the first time he saw Raleigh Becket, saw the way he moved and realized where he must be from. There shouldn't be anything in this cave, but he doesn't know for sure. He didn't exactly get a chance to check every one before word came up that someone was requesting a guide.

The odds are slim. Slim enough that the guy would have better luck buying a lotto scratch-off. But he can't say with certainty that there won't be something in here. When the beast inside him comes out, it does what it wants. Even now, after all these years, he barely remembers any of it. And he certainly can't control it. ]

It's probably been a good five years or so since anything bigger than a skunk or a raccoon was in here.

OOC I was thinking here? Maybe he lost track of her once they moved and since Witches and Vampires don't get along---he has to set out to find some witches that are doing something bad in his area. Thus she gets wrapped up in the situation on accident?

Could be another original tracked her down, and took her hostage? I am open to ideas.

[He'd be good either hunting or hunted.]

[ He follows after him, cold blue eyes watching every movement Davis makes. He used to be a nice guy, a guy that joked around and laughed easily. He has lines in his face now, crinkles at the corners of his eyes that hint at the kind of person he was years ago, before the kaiju and a bad call took everything away from him. ]

Guess we'll find out.

[ He moves into the cave and gives it a quick, cursury once over before beginning to investigate further, deciding that - for whatever reason - he was going to go through this particular cave with a fine tooth comb. ]

[ In tight quarters with Raleigh, the uneasiness he's feeling only seems to intensify, as if the other man was physically breathing down his neck every step of the way. He'd never acted friendly, not even at the start, but now he seems almost... suspicious? No, don't be stupid, he tells himself. There's nothing for this hunter to be suspicious of. Not from him, anyway. He's being paranoid. ]

You might want this then.

[ He offers the machete to Raleigh, handle out, trying to get a read on his face in that split second their eyes meet. What he gets is the stern, hard look of a man who hardened years ago. He himself looks... wary? It's hard to tell, what with the beard he's allowed to grow out for the specific purposes of helping to obscure his facial features (well, that and it sells the whole 'mountain man' persona so well) but wedged between the facial hair and the head of hair his eyes are alert and watchful. ]

Any particular reason you think this cave is more important than the others?

[ It's closer to the cabin he's built up here, but of course Raleigh can't know that. ]

[ He takes the machete and hefts the weight in his hand, running his thumb absently over the handle. He isn't sure why he has such a feeling about this cave, but he'd always listened to his intuition in cases like this. He was rarely steered wrong, and if his gut is telling him to look closer, he's going to look closer. ]

Nah. Just a hunch, I guess.
