Maybe this is the point where he should call it off so that can never become a problem. It's what happens in stories most of the time, the hero distancing themselves from a loved one to protect them.

But he doesn't want to do that. And it's not as though doing that would mean he didn't care what happened to Ms Agnes. Even if they'd never reached this point, he would still hate to see her placed in harms way. The same goes for anyone in the city. It's not hard to find hostages to use against the heroes if that's what a criminal wants to do. Ms Agnes may honestly be safer than most, spending a lot of her time around the heroes as she does.]
