[He forgot. Not that she's any in the least bit surprised. How could anyone remember a date with their longtime girlfriend when they were busy flying the skies with their best friend? Forgetting was certainly better than avoiding at least, which is what he tended to do with dragon races and chief meetings. If he was trying to avoid this, he had better look forward to a jabbing straight through his flat little stomach. Not that she hadn't already been planning on giving him one anyway.

Stormfly was here for company at least, the Deadly Nadder chasing some birds gleefully by some trees. Astrid will watch her for a bit as a distraction as she leans back on her elbows in the middle of the clearing.

She'll give him a few more minutes. If he doesn't make it, she'll be sure to at least give him a piece of her mind later.]

[ Hiccup wheels into view overhead five minutes later, yelling down and looking flustered as Toothless lands. ]

Sorry! Sorry, Gobber wanted a whole new saddle design with about a dozen spikes in ridiculous places for this one customer, I could've strangled them both ...

[ Unlatching his hook from Toothless, he snaps the cleated brace into place on his prosthetic and jogs over with a bundle of snacks. Not exactly amazing fare, but he grabbed what he could in a hurry. ]

[ Pecking her on the cheek, he throws himself onto the grass to catch his breath. ]

Oh good. I was about ready to strangle you.

[She was kidding, of course. Possibly anyway, considering her violent streak. She'll let him go easy this time at least, sitting up straight as she reaches for a small basket beside her.] And after I spent all morning trying to make you a new treat--fish eye stew.

[There's already a foul smell slipping out from within the basket that probably isn't too pleasant, though Astrid doesn't seem to notice. At least Stormfly avoids the danger, being in a much more ecstatic mood, as she squawks happily in greeting at Toothless.]

[Most likely a friendly outing, but I'm willing to work with a date as well.

Oh, oh, good ... [ Sitting up abruptly as the stench hits his nostrils, Hiccup clears his throat. ] I grabbed us some starters.

[ Which I am definitely going to fill up on. As Toothless gallops off to play at mimicry with Stormfly, Hiccup unravels the pack in his lap and sets everything down between himself and Astrid, studiously ignoring her own provisions. ]

You've got your cheese, fresh-off-the-spit meat, rye bread, aaaand ... [ Out flops a leather flagon, sloshing as he pats it proudly because while his haul is pretty poor, the drinks are at least passable. ] The last flask of wine from Trader Johann's last visit. But! That's not all. Hold onto your dragon there, missy, settle down.

[ Ferreting around under the armour of his flight suit, he slips out a small wooden tub and unlaces the material covering to hand it over, a sweet scent wafting onto the springtime breeze. ]
