"Well of course I lived with them! While I was young." An 'of course' that can be easily given, because Moritz's mind doesn't instinctively make exceptions for tragedy and hardship. He just naturally operates with a naive unawareness that his own good fortune isn't reflective of the rest of the world. "We didn't really raise animals except for chickens, so our dairy came from a different farmer, so we never bothered with culturing cheese."

This is good, and clearly setting him at ease. A nervous man but a natural chatterbox, Moritz isn't even quite recognizing that they're still loosely holding hands to arms except in the broad sense of feeling rather happy about it. "Did your family have a farm too?"
