The (possibly AU) Sibling Incest Meme

Incest is, despite its taboo nature in most societies, actually a pretty popular convention in both romantic fiction and works of a more erotic bent, in everything from period or fantasy pieces to series taking place in places like modern day Japan. Still, the most common configuration in these fictions are the pairing of siblings. Perhaps this is because of the usual lack of age difference and power dynamic that exists in child/adult relative pairings, though this is not always the case. Because of this, a sexual or romantic relationship between siblings can almost seem, well, romantic in the right light. Of course, more often than not, there's a dark side under the veneer of forbidden love.

This meme is for those who would like to play out that, either the darkness or the light - or both.

1. Feeling Strange: You've known this person your entire life, yet lately you've been feeling...different about them. These feelings aren't exactly familial, either.
2. Not as Normal Families: Whatever the specifics of the case may be, your childhood was not the norm, and thus the two of you have grown close that way.
3. Raised Apart: Scientists believe that when siblings are raised together under normal circumstances, they will not find each other sexually attractive; however, if they are reared apart, they may be highly attracted to each other when they meet as adults.
4. Only Kin by Name: Psuedo-incest between step siblings or adopted siblings is not quite as taboo, but you could still be looked down upon for harboring those desires for someone who is a member of your family by one way or another.
5. Defender: One of you is older and has always looked after the other, meaning that something has grown between you that is thicker than any blood.

Clark had grown up as an only child - he was still sore over the death of his first (as far as he knew them) parents. [The attempts to be brother and sister were awkward and forced at best, like right now with how she's trying to play the role of a concerned sibling. It doesn't feel sincere.

Like how she wants to ask what exactly he's been doing to keep coming home the late hours of the night and why he keeps doing it because it kind of hurts to not have him despite the complications between the two of them. But she pretends it isn't a thing that gnaws at the back of her mind and makes the pit of her stomach feel tight and heavy.] Oh no! It's fine with me.

This is the part she tries to tease him about being coming home so late and how he'll be hard to wake up in the morning but that's what a sister does. Whether it was survivor's guilt when it came to his original parents, or day to day events, he carried his self-apparent faults like chains. Doing this to Ariel just added one more set of them. ]

[Rogue has never been one to get stir-crazy. For most of her life, she's been content enough to be alone --- if only because of necessity, because of getting used to it. It's dangerous to go out often or to get close to others with her condition, she remembers hearing all throughout her childhood. Hear something enough times and you begin to believe it.

But back then, it'd all been more abstract. She'd never been entirely alone; family sticks together, even when "family" is a dangerous mutant. As long as she can remember, there's always been someone --- a brother, a father, human or human-passing --- out there to cover her tracks. On good days, she can pass as normal, too, as long as no one happens to bump into her bare skin.

Or, at least, that's the way it'd been before the government had found a way to detect the mutant gene in people and subsequently decided that now was a good of a time as any to start rounding up freakshows. Some mutants had preached "cooperation" and turned themselves willingly. Those who could fled the country. The rest went underground, either banking on their ability to blend in or to fight.

Rogue is doing what she's always been taught to do, though a seemingly permanent residence in a shitty hotel that is obviously rented by the hour by smell alone is different from a few days, especially when that hotel was in the middle of nowhere, Colorado.

When her brother said off the map, he meant it.

She sits on the bed, facing towards the window even though the shade's pulled, the plastic curtains stained with god knows what, some of the plastic itself pulling away due to age and leaving only the ancient flame-retardant fabric within visible. It reminds her of egg yolks coming out of shells, vaguely making her sick to her stomach. Behind her, the radio bleats on, playing the exact same anti-mutant propaganda as ever.

Her head will probably crack open, just like the egg-curtains.

It's 7 PM now. If she goes to sleep, she'll only be up in a few hours. She's not hungry know, even if she knows she should be.]
