Jim wouldn't consider himself a huge animal lover. Not really. But after the kittens are in his room long enough, he finds himself playing with them. Even declining his routine meeting with Spock to play chess today, claiming he had a lot of reports to go over.
No one else on the ship knows about the kittens or their mother. And Jim hopes to keep it that way until they reach Earth (which would lead to them being taken off the ship and left planetside, Kirk has already made Chekov promise). Especially since he's already started naming the kittens. Domino has the black spot over one eye, Ripley wants to get into everything, and Damian, that little shit, bites him when he tries to pet or play with him. ]
