All Souls Trilogy AU Meme
It begins with absence and desire.
It begins with blood and fear.
It begins with a discovery of witches
- Witch - Creatures capable of magic, they have the potential to blend in most easily with humans. Their skills are divided into two general classifications: magic and witchcraft. Magic is the simple act of using one's desire to effect a change. Witchcraft is, as the name suggests, a craft that requires spells, potions, knowledge of herbs and stones, etc. Some witches even carry genetic abilities, the most common of which stem from the four elements: they can summon witchwind, witchwater, or witchfire (the rarest of the elemental abilities); all witches carry an affinity for earth, granting them a tie to the natural world. Some of the rare abilities include binding, summoning spirits, traveling through time, and being able to craft new spells. Almost anything one can imagine can be done through witchcraft and magic. Unlike humans, they have 24 chromosome pairs. They are unable to lie to each other, and not using their magic can have a physical effect on their bodies (most often making their hair quite frizzy).
- Vampire - Like vampires from other media, these creatures do need blood to survive, but they can consume human food. The one thing that most affects them, however, due to their heightened senses, is whether food is cooked and whether it has a strong smell (hence, a dislike of garlic). Cooked food tastes horribly overdone to them. They are the longest-lived of all creatures, being effectively immortal. Their need for oxygen is reduced, they run colder than other creatures, and they have strong predatory instincts. Each vampire is often compared to a specific predatory animal. They often crave the hunt more than they crave blood, and running from one will only cause a chase. Some vampires suffer from a genetic illness that can cause bout of extreme rage. Someone is turned into a vampire by their maker draining all their blood and then giving some of their own to initiate the change. They are also unaffected by sunlight and can mate with each other. Like witches, they have 24 chromosome pairs.
- Daemon - Creatures possessing impossible levels of creativity, they are closest to humans genetically (with 23 chromosome pairs plus one extra chromosome). A great deal of history's most famous artists, writers, philosophers, economists, musicians, etc. were daemons (examples including Giordano Bruno and Christopher Marlowe). Once upon a time, they were viewed as gods and guardian spirits of humanity. The unfortunate thing is that they constantly border on madness - they can be brilliantly energetic and they can be violent and dangerous. They are genetically unpredictable; there is no telling whether their children will be daemons and they can crop up randomly.
- Human/Non-Creature - They may or may not know about creatures and the true nature of the world. They may or may not be happy about it, if they do know. Some think that humans and creatures are simply lineages within the same species, rather than different species. Humans are known for their capability to come up with any explanation other than the existence of creatures, and for being able to proliferate far faster than any of the other groups.
These three groups have developed a truce, of sorts, going back to the time of the Crusades: they generally maintain separate from each other, because where they gather humans are more likely to notice them. Love between them is forbidden. They are forbidden from interfering in human politics and religion. Their governing body is known as The Congregation, which is composed of three members of each group.
