into each life some rain must fall.

caught in the rain

it started out quietly, and then, quite suddenly, you're caught in a storm. time to find cover. nothing much to do but to wait it out.

scenarios listed below for those who want 'em.

i. WHERE;
001 PLAYGROUND - well, you can try to hide under the slide or maybe in the jungle gym... at least you're some place fun?
002 PARK - always happens, caught outside trying to take advantage of the weather... and it ends up pulling a fast one on you.
003 STORE FRONT - better hope they have an awning you can take advantage of.
004 THE BEACH - not exactly the best place to be during a rainstorm, however it is possible to get caught in a sudden storm.
005 WILD CARD - anyway you want it.

ii. HOW;
001 TREE - not the best cover, but it'll have to do, stay close to the roots and you won't get too wet.
002 UMBRELLA - most conventional... kinda boring. But it works.
003 NEWSPAPER - not permanent, but it'll have to do. good luck.
004 BAG - well... y'gotta do what you gotta do.
005 NONE - you know what. you're a rebel. you don't need cover. screw convention.
006 WILD CARD - that's the way you need it.

iii. WHY;
001 REJECTED - welp. rejection sucks. and no one will see you crying in the rain.
002 WAITING - for the bus? for someone else? for some revelation? what are you waiting for.
003 MELANCHOLY - sometimes the best place to feel a bit down is out in the rain.
004 HAPPINESS - is everything going your way? are you singing a refrain while walking down the lane? just singin. singin' in the rain.
005 ANGER - WELL YOU KNOW WHAT. SCREW YOU TOO RAIN.
006 WILD CARD - anyway you want it.

>> POST with your character
>> TAG others, use rng if you need to, or just make up your own scenario if you want!
>> HAVE FUN.

You smell like a wet dog, so it's all good. [ He tries to make a joke to lighten things up, because Stiles is kind of the worst about comforting people, but damn, he's going to at least try. Derek looks miserable, even more so than usual, but his face softens and Stiles feels something twist a little warmly in his chest at the sight. Flashing him a small, affectionate smile, Stiles lets his hand fall and turns away towards the couch, pushing his mess off the couch and flicking on the lights.

Once Derek gets settled, Stiles stares at him for a minute, jitters his hands, then gets up and disappears down the hallway. He returns in a couple minutes with a towel over his arm, and instead of flinging it at Derek or something similar, Stiles kneels down where Derek's sitting and loops the towel over his head. ]

Here. Try not to get the couch soaked. [ The affectionate gesture is definitely not matching up with the words. Oops. ]

The park was large but not large enough.

Bruce is pushing his way deeper into it as fast as he can, the army slowed down slightly by the foliage behind him but it was only a matter of time...

The sudden downpour was a blessing in disguise, soaking everyone and slowing the soldiers down even more. Bruce was soaked but he was also harder to find. Moving through the trees quickly and trying to remain calm. He had to keep out of sight so he kept in the rain as much as possible.

Wonder where all this rain came from?

[Merlin would like to believe the best of him. They share things in common, and it would nice to just to have someone to talk to. But every time his heart starts to soften, there's a new voice whispering in his ear or a new vision in front of his eyes. And the worst part is that he's not even convinced that Mordred knows of his supposed role in all of this. It's like kicking a puppy that might one day become a rabid dog.

He knew that Mordred wouldn't be dissuaded from coming with him, and even his feelings on that are a jumble. Maybe it's better to keep Mordred close where he can keep an eye on him, but it always leads to more moments like those under the tree. It's unpleasant for the both of them.

He takes a breath.
]

I told him it looked like rain before we set out this morning. He didn't listen. Never does.

[Merlin's never been able to engage him in even mild criticism of the king. That alone might be something to be skeptical of, except even Merlin has to admit that Arthur's lightened up over the years. He isn't nearly the arse that he used to be.]

Never underestimate the appeal of killing things, I suppose.

Alright, man. ALRIGHT. I heard you the first time! You ain't gotta holler it all over the damn store, yo!

[ It's a rare occasion when Jesse Pinkman isn't getting The Look. This is the same very specific look he gets when he enters any restaurant that isn't McDonald's or any -otel that doesn't have the letter 'M' to really complete the phrase. He takes it, because it's what he knows.

Here? The story isn't any different. The only twist is that he's American. That no good hoodie over there? Keeps his hands in his pockets. Up to no good, that one. One quick flick of his wrist found shoved back into his jacket is enough for the owner of whichever fine establishment he's frequenting.

With a shrug, he adjusts the material back over his shoulders ( having his sleeve tugged at by the owner's even more belligerent wife ) and heads for the automatic doors. There's no surprise in Jesse Pinkman's face when thunder rumbles overhead and drops begins to pelt the air. He licks his lips, sucking in the lower. Little American wanker afraid of gettin' a bit wet? Piss off.

Jesse stalks off through the rain, gritting his teeth as his feet slap the pavement. He doesn't know where he's going; at this rate, he's so far from Albuquerque he doesn't care.

[ Rain! What is this unseasonal weather. Anise huffs and glares up at the sky from under the makeshift shield that was actually her white vestment (it doesn't do much.) Everyone had split up to run the usual errands, and somehow Anise got stuck with the Colonel in heading over to the local weapons store to see what they had to offer them. But now it was raining! She runs ahead, seeing that the store wasn't too far away. ]

[ None of those where options fit, so these two guys are caught in the rain on the way back from something unimportant. No Titans around - it ain't that kind of meme - and no danger of anything being bitten in half, swallowed whole, or torn apart. It's all about two dorks on their way back from something I can't come up with at 4:30am, soaked to the bone because it won't stop raining, too miserable to speak (at least Jean is too miserable to speak right now), wishing they'd been quick enough to shove this task onto someone else (also Jean).

Book-returning to somewhere vague counts as an errand, right? Great. That's it - that's the scenario. They were running an errand, returning two huge stacks of books to someone for someone because something. Now it's raining. Double great. Everything bad starts with 'eren' so it works out nicely.

I repeat - 4:30am.

The cover? A bag. That's now why I was looking for the right word, that's another thread, but it's why Jean's hair is sort of matted with rain and the rain-shredded remains of a thin paper bag. Whatever food was inside probably wasn't worth the money he wasted; all he wanted was a cheap makeshift umbrella. Life this far away from the interior is truly rotten. Jean likes walking in the rain because nobody can see his tears.

But he can't help but notice - Armin's looking a fair bit dryer.
]

It's really comin' down, huh? [ Drip, drip, drip. Give him something to keep try. Help him. He is miserable. This is what happens when you don't dress for the weather ] Not that you're feelin' it, I guess.

Where, indeed.

It was hard to miss all that activity. Ororo had been on an impulse-flight - it was her one, surefire way to relax and unwind - when she noticed the activity below. The wind was on her side, of course, and it carried snatches of conversation from the army to her. Not everything, of course, but enough that she knew it was Bruce down there. And he was being pursued yet again.

If this carried on, things could get ugly.

It didn't have to get ugly.

She was not certain if her rains would stop their search, but it would at least slow them down and keep their visibility to a minimum. Meanwhile, she had a doctor to catch.

She flies ahead, over to the patch of forest where she thought she'd seen him disappear into.

"Doctor Banner?"

Now Bruce was in the mindset of running from just about anything. What he wasn't prepared for was a feminine voice saying his name here in the woods. He skids to a stop, glancing around and hoping he wasn't hearing things. Soaked to the skin but the fact that he hadn't gone past the point of no return was promising. So long as he kept ahead of anyone with an automatic weapon.

Against his better judgment, he keeps in the thick of the woods and asks, "W-who's there?" Hoping it wasn't going to be followed by a tranquilizer dart in his chest.

i saw that. i hope you went to bed!!

[Nothing about this is particularly surprising or noteworthy. Armin, books; Jean, suffering -- not a startlingly new chapter in the daily lives of potential Titan victims. Armin had busied himself making informative comments about the contents of a few of those books on the way to return them (to distract Jean from inevitable complaint? no one will ever know), but after the rain had really started to come down, talking over it got less and less appealing.

The occasional wary glance at Jean's great paper cover has sufficed, instead. Armin, you see, has chosen to wear a hood. Why are you wearing the full uniform all day, Armin? they asked, and well, it only looked like it was going to pour mercilessly all morning. And now here they are.

The number one ace strategist! lifts the side of said hood to get a better look at his miserable companion.]

No... Well, it's cold. [A pause. That was obvious, huh.] We're lucky it didn't start raining before we delivered the books.

Did it count as an automatic weapon if his new pursuer had lightning at her fingertips? To her credit, she is only using it at a very low level of brightness - a convenient searchlight that sets her face aglow.

"A friend, Doctor Banner." Ororo stepped into his line of vision. "I am not here to hurt you, I promise."

She cuts a really impressive figure, especially in the pouring rain. Bruce shrinks back into the shadows in self defense before daring to show his face again. Wary but desperate would sum up the expression on his face. He really shouldn't stay in one place too long.

"I could use a friend." Poor guy already looked like a drowned rat and with the army chasing him down from behind, Bruce was in a delicate situation. He glances behind, hoping they weren't catching up. "But I can't promise not hurting you if bullets start flying." He might as well be truthful.

"Please, do not worry about such a thing." She smiles at him reassuringly, vaguely touched by his concern even while on the run like this. "I can look out for myself, if need be."

"But I am not the one in need of help right now." The lightning in her hands fades as she reaches out to him. "Will you let me help you?"

Bruce hesitates. He doesn't trust many people, mostly because he was a fugitive and most people were out to get him. However, this woman seemed to want to help. That was rare.

He slowly steps from behind a tree towards her. Please don't be a trap, he's thinking to himself as he comes close enough to the hand. "What are you going to do?" Did she have a car or something handy for a get-away? The lightning in her hands, he had a hunch she wasn't a normal human, probably a mutant.

Ororo is quiet for a moment, listening to the wind. Rather than be deterred by the rain, she hears the officers tell their men to keep at the search. She frowns and turns serious eyes to the man before her.

"I can get you far away from here, but you must trust me." Her hand comes to rest on his arm, fleetingly. Light enough that he could pull away if he wanted, but with enough pressure for him to know that she did not mean to go anywhere just yet. "I know that that is a lot to ask, on such short notice. But we do not have much time."

There was something calm and level about this person. Bruce really needed calm so instead of pulling back, he stays put and gives a quick nod. "Okay." He'll trust her. It was better than the alternative.

His own ears pick up the sound of bushes rustling under the sound of the pouring rain, Bruce half turning quickly and ready to bolt if the sound turns into someone with a gun. She was right, they didn't have much time.
jotunblooded: Loki, staring down at his new skin in confusion and fear (What am I?)

5-1-2

[personal profile] jotunblooded 2013-08-29 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
[He didn't stay in town very much. The sight of them all, basically happy despite or maybe because of their blissful ignorance, is too much to bear. So as soon as he was old enough, Loki started looking for jobs that would keep him traveling. He wrote, mostly. He'd always had a gift for stories, as well as lies, even if he'd never dared put their story to words that anyone else could read.

Maybe it was the fact that he wasn't truly an Asgardian that had let him remember. He always had - the memories had only been dreams, when he was young, too much for a child to comprehend or understand. But they'd only sharpened as he grew back into himself, until now he was utterly convinced.

Or maybe just insane. There were bad days when Loki wondered if he was just insane. After all, if he was the only one in the world who believed something, how could it be true? More than once, he'd searched Thor for any sign that his brother remembered, too, but he'd never been satisfied, and eventually he'd stopped asking.

Getting past the horror of finding himself human, aging and rotting and dying by the second, all over again, had taken a long time.

So Loki traveled a lot, maybe seeking answers, or just distance. But he did remember, and so the family ties were stronger than ever, especially now that he and Thor really were related by blood. So he always came back.

The storm had been brewing since his plane landed, and it had finally started to pour as the shuttle bus took him into town. Loki had prayed for it to pass, and so of course it hadn't. At his stop, he was forced to exit the shelter of the bus onto the sidewalk with his bags, without coat or umbrella. The weather where he'd been hadn't been nearly this bad.

Still. He'd called ahead. Someone should be coming to get him, soon. And so Loki retreated to the shelter of a nearby tree to wait, sitting on his bags to try and keep off the worst of the damp from his things.]

She puts a finger to her lips. She was relatively sure they wouldn't be heard, but it didn't hurt to be cautious. Her eyes take on an ethereal glow, and above them the rain starts to intensify into a full-fledged storm. She works quickly, moving behind Bruce and taking him by the arms -

There's a sudden flash of lightning followed by the snap of thunder. And under the cover of heavy rain and dark, menacing clouds, Ororo commands the wind to lift them both up into the air. They go higher and higher, away from the sound of startled shouts and gunfire until they broke the cloudline where the rain was much quieter.

Bruce can't take his eyes off of her, not having witnessed anything like this before, his scientific curiosity not letting him look away. Even as the rain pelted down and he has to hold his hoodie closer. She has his arms, a gust of wind sweeping through...

And the ground is suddenly becoming very far away. Bruce tries not to make an embarrassing strangled sound but it comes out anyway. Maybe he'll just shut his eyes for part of this trip. At least the rain is letting up and now they're very far away from the army. "You...do this often?" he manages to get out, clinging to her arm.

Ororo has to be careful not to get too high. Her body compensates for atmospherical changes, and that includes air pressure. She wasn't so sure about Bruce here.

Still, his question has her smile faintly even as she focuses on flying at a suitable speed. "Only when I happen upon someone I can help."

She thinks about making a quip about damsels in distress. Decides he might not appreciate it, but keeps a smile on her lips anyway.

Despite the height, Bruce cracks an eye open, then the other as he takes a breath of relief. He was soaking wet and probably too high above the ground to be safe, but honestly he felt safer than he was with the army on his heels. The last thing they would be expecting was for him to just float away on them.
