Semantics. Back in the old days they might have been strict, but they didn't have the same means of keeping tabs on you. There was more manoeuvrability. Less people that cared.

For my kind it was our golden days, for humans not so much. Their lives are better now while we have been pushed out of our groves.

The iron humans dug out of the ground harms us. Any conflict and they would have an advantage. Humans aren't particularly good at treating others well. Not even their own kind. Unlike us.
