Sansa takes a deep breath to steel herself.
"No, this must be goodbye. This must be final."
no subject
"Do you want to stay for a last meal, or would you like to leave now?"
no subject
No, Winterfell is not the place for someone like Rowan who doesn't seem as if he would thrive in the deep snows and ice. She has to say goodbye to her home for the final time and she feels it best to snip the thread quickly and not let it fray over time.
"We should make our way to your more permanent home."
no subject
"If you'd like." He was quiet for a moment, hand lifting to let his fingers glide through her hair. "I'm not going to say I'm sorry for this, because I'm not. I found you, and that means more to me, but I am sorry if you're saddened."
no subject
"But I want to leave and be with you. I have never had nothing of my very own before, not since I was too small to understand the significance of such things. Also, I feel it will be easier to be...intimate in a place that is not Winterfell. As much as this is my home, it was once my prison and the place I was broken."
no subject
He let his thumb trace under her cheekbone, looking into soft blue eyes and smiling. "As you like. Then let's be on our way. The sooner we're in my land, the sooner we can sort out how to make it yours."
no subject
Sansa impulsively hugs him again.
"This is where you will have to lead me. I do not know where we are going or how to get there so I trust you will get me there safely."
no subject
She hugs him and he smiles, pleased that she was starting to slowly start to trust him with herself.
"We'll go back to your Weirwood and have Rue take it from there."
no subject
"I wonder where we came out," she asks, looking around. When she looks toward the horizon, she sees buildings that touch the sky, buildings higher than the Eyrie.
"Is that where you live? In that city in the sky?"
no subject
Sansa might also notice that as they walked to where Rowan left his car during his camping trip, and as they drove back to the city, all the people there, young and old, had a familiar with them. It made him wonder if her entering this world would bring her one of her own, or if her not having one would make her stand out. He expected she wouldn't like the pity from others. He held the door open for her enter the car, explaining to her what it was and what he was doing as he started it and started the drive down the long winding roads towards where he'd made his home.
no subject
"This is absolutely delightful," she says, looking around excitedly. "You travel so quickly - you could cover the distance from Winterfell to the Wall in a day with something like this. And you can see everything through the glass, too, while having the cover of a wheelhouse."
no subject
no subject
"How far is it to your home?"
no subject
no subject
It's a beautiful house, even if it's much smaller than Winterfell, and Sansa can see why anyone would want to live there.
"It's too cold to have that much glass in the North."
no subject

"I cannot wait to see the inside," she says. "There will be no touches of me there, of course, but that will change soon."

Sansa might not have consummated the mate bond yet but she knows that she will, eventually, and she wants to share a bed with Rowan even if she isn't ready for everything. She touches his hand lightly when she says it and waits for him to let her out of the car (she hadn't exactly followed the door mechanism when she got in before).

The house was more modern than the cottage entirely, and as he led her in, he was already pulling out his phone to look up places online that he could get clothing for her to at least be able to wear more comfortably here. Her gowns were lovely, but they'd make her stand out and he doubted she wanted that.
no subject
"I suppose you would not have a problem with me being close at night? Or shall I have to find a new place to sleep?"
no subject
He'd gone long stretches before in celibacy, more out of not wanting to attach too deeply to someone when all he had available were women looking for a husband or mate. He knew better, so he avoided it. Now? Now he had his mate and she was standing in his home- their home, and he'd already spent one night surrounded by her scent. The thought of her pressed up close to him was just too much to not prod at his need to seal their bond.
no subject
Part of her wants him to make the first move toward her, to guide her into things when they are wanted and not horrible, but she knows that she will be shy regardless of how it comes about.
"We should talk more about how this mate bond works. I never heard of it before it happened. We do not do such in Westeros. Marriages are not for love, they are for political alliance."
no subject
A quick bit of magic has the wards sealing when he closes the door, and a few adjustments allow for her to come and go as she pleases. Then her trunk was placed at the foot of his bed and Rue was already curling up on his bed near the exit to the beach. He liked to roam, but he seemed worn out now. "That's part of what little devils like him are for. If a soulmate is around, they help draw us together."
no subject
It had been a strange happening, finding the litter of Stark direwolves, and it has never happened since.
"It seems it didn't stop Rue any, at least."
