A QUESTION FOR A QUESTION

YOU MAY KNOW EACH OTHER ALREADY - OR YOU MAY NOT. UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, YOU'RE NOW PASSING THE TIME ASKING EACH OTHER QUESTIONS. IT'S A GAME! A QUESTION FOR A QUESTION. YOU START OFF ASKING YOUR OPPONENT A QUESTION OF CHOICE AND IF THEY ANSWER IT, THEY'RE ALLOWED TO ASK YOU A QUESTION IN TURN. THE RULES ARE SIMPLE, ONLY AS LONG AS YOU ANSWER THE OTHER PERSON'S QUESTIONS ARE YOU ALLOWED TO ASK QUESTIONS YOURSELF, BUT THERE IS NO EXPECTATION OF TRUTHFULNESS HERE, LIE IF YOU MUST OR WANT, JUST KEEP THE MOMENTUM GOING.

How to play -
1. Comment with your character's name, fandom and preference.
2. If you want, leave a question in the comment field that your character is asking their opponent. Or don't. I'm not the cops.
3. Pick other characters to question and have fun!

I sometimes let it eat me alive and choke me until I can't breathe. Those are the bad days. On the good days, I focus it on my work and try to build a life. Sometimes it feels like a copy of someone else's, like I'm wearing someone else's suit and it's ill-fitting. Sometimes though, once in a while, there's a day when all the punches land. Proverbially, of course.

Was that a good answer? I never know.

That is a very relatable answer, so I am not sure if it is a good one or a bad one either. I would not wish most of what has happened in my life to make it feel like I'm wearing someone else's ill-fitting suit on anyone else. On the other hand, if it was the truth, I think that makes it inherently a good answer.

How many days of trying did it take before you had a good, all the punches landing day?

Sometimes it's months, if I'm being really honest. And sometimes it's only one before it all falls back to more days where everything doesn't fit right. The point, I've come to realize, is not that every punch lands but that you throw your best punch every time.

Do you remember a time when they landed?

Don't worry, your real honest will not scare me. Sometimes it has been years, for me. And as points go... I like that one.

Yes. One day, in particular, where every punch landed very satisfactorily by the end of it. Although, recently, there has also been a day where I think only a few punches landed, but I think I don't regret any of the misses, for how it ended. Have you had any days like that?

I've had days like that. In boxing, that's winning by points instead of knock-out. It's not as satisfying, maybe, and it takes too long and it wears you down to get to the end of every round but it's a win all the same.

What day was that?

The day I decided to start trying to build something again, instead of continuing to let it eat me alive. I found - I found good people, who understood what I was going through, and stuck around.

Are you a boxer, then? I have always thought that would be fun to try.

That makes all the difference. Making the decision to find something better and having good people around you helps. I'm glad you found that.

My dad was a boxer. I'm a lawyer. Do you require legal representation?

Thank you very much. Me too. I did not even know most of them existed, but now... it feels like they are the perfect fit for what I was missing. But then again, I am also facing the facts that I am a sap, so maybe that is why I think that.

Ha. No, not currently, but I will remember that because I may in the future. Do you like being a lawyer?

Sometimes that's how it works out. I didn't meet my best friend until college and then the other most important person in my life came into it because I was going to represent her in some trumped up murder charges. Strange how things go sometimes.

I'll give you a card in case of an emergency that might necessitate a defense attorney. I do, actually. I don't think I'd like it if I took different cases than the kind I do though. Do you enjoy your job?

Very strange how things go sometimes, yes.

Thank you, I will hang on to that. Do I enjoy my job. That is a tricky one. It depends on how you are meaning enjoy, I guess. Do I take active pleasure in it like I might a hobby? No. Do I think it is a career I would have chosen if I had been given a choice? No.

But I do enjoy that I am doing something I am very good at, I do enjoy being very skilled in my field, and those skills also lend themselves well to protecting the people I care about, which I do take active pleasure in.

If you DID have to pick a secondary career for some reason - magic curse or something - what would it be?

That's professional satisfaction and that's the most important part of a job. Most people don't love what they do as in they wouldn't do it in their spare time if they had the option but finding something in that you can enjoy is a good sign.

Despite how I can hear my dad's voice in my head telling me otherwise, I'd have wanted to be a boxer.

Do you have any hobbies to supplement this job you have?

[personal profile] so_many_pockets 2025-05-25 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
I can understand why you would have wanted that - well. Obviously I do not know why exactly, but I can think of a few reasons that are possible, and they are understandable to me. If that makes any sense at all, which it probably does not.

I have a dog and a guinea pig, and I really like playing with and caring for them. Does that count as a hobby? I am never sure what fits into that category and what doesn't.

Oh, and I also like to cook.

What are the reasons that are possible and understandable?

That absolutely counts as a hobby. I never had any pets myself but I feel like that takes a lot of time and work that also bring satisfaction so I think that's probably the definition of a hobby.

Well, I can understand the simultaneous urge to rebel against your father and follow up in his footsteps, at least to some degree. And it seems like there is a connecting factor between the two careers - different types of fights and different types of proving yourself, but those are still prominent factors in both.

Have you ever wanted a pet?

He's dead so he doesn't really have an opinion on it these days but he gave me about a million lectures about how I should use my brain instead of my fists.

Not really. Are they fun?
so_many_pockets: (Default)

[personal profile] so_many_pockets 2025-05-26 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
Well, that is just silly. Obviously you couldn't use your fists if you weren't using your brain. It sounds like he wanted the best for you, though.

[Pardon the bad joke. They're her favorite kind.]

Oh, very much. Fanny - my dog - she is the sweetest and most playful puppy.

I think I lose. I cannot think of another question.
