There's an infinite number of different worlds that are all at some point either under threat by or have already been destroyed by an apocalyptic invasion of creatures that are basically embodiments of darkness. They can turn people into more of them, and leave behind the inhuman emotionless husks of people from that. You can also be consumed by the darkness you control and end up becoming something monstrous and absurdly powerful.

Also becoming a god somehow is definitely a thing, because Hercules is one of those worlds that always shows up? Seems pretty reasonable to assume a concert gone wrong to a cosmic degree or something could cause ridiculous levels of chaos.
