[His eyebrows raise at incident. And the more Bucky explains (in the vaguest way possible), the easier it is to connect the dots with the previous, scattered murmurs he'd been hearing through various channels.]

[Yeah alright, he's being obnoxiously vague, but it's hard to find the words to even explain it.]

[And his face falls. Words escape him. He just... stares, then squints, then tilts his head slightly to one side as if trying to parse out what's just reached his ears.

There's a deep inhale, then he moves to sit down-- except he's already been seated. This whole time. On the edge of his paltry excuse for a bed.

He keeps looking to Bucky, like he's silently asking for something more than I'm an Avenger now. And it takes him more than a few moments to bring himself to say anything in response to such a revelation.]

[He presses his lips together, crossing his arms. He's not gonna look at Zemo just to see some kind of disappointed look on his face.]

Is it so hard to believe that I could be one?

[The shock, the disappointment. Zemo can’t cover any of that up, can’t muster the energy to even try. Not after being sucker punched with horrible development after horrible development in such quick succession.]

No. [He shakes his head.] Just know you’re better than that.

[He doesn't know what's so damn disappointing about it. Why Zemo of all people would even have the right to be disappointed after everything he's done. Shock, he can understand. But the rest of it?

It's like Sam being petty over a name.]

Better than what? Being there when needed? Helping people? Working together with a team who wants to do good? Seemed just fine when I was teaming up with you.

All Zemo can do is stare, mouth slightly agape, rendered utterly speechless. There's no way to come back from that, not unless he wants to spit something he'll truly regret later on.]
