Re: Dorian Storm | Critical Role | OTA
Percy's voice curls at the edge of Dorian’s ear like smoke—warm, conspiratorial, and just sharp enough to sting. His hand rests low at Dorian’s back, deceptively casual, guiding them through the slow rhythm of the waltz. Around them, nobles chatter and laugh, unaware—or pretending to be.
"You think I asked you to dance for the view?" he murmurs, lips ghosting dangerously close as they turn. "I needed a moment where no one would question why my hand is on your body, and your pulse is spiking."
He smiles—slow, wicked, amused.
"There’s a countess with a blackmail ledger tucked beneath her petticoats, a spy posing as a valet, and a vote hanging in the balance that could unravel a very delicate piece of my empire."
A dip, subtle and intimate. He doesn't break eye contact.
"You, Dorian, are not here because I trust you. You’re here because you’re just reckless enough to make things disappear and just pretty enough that no one looks too closely when you do."
He leans in closer—mouth near jaw, breath warm.
"So, tell me, darling... are you going to behave tonight?"
A pause. His smile turns razor-sharp.
"Or shall we give them something to whisper about after the blood dries?"
no subject
He followed Percy’s steps easily enough, familiar with the dance. As Percy dipped him, he glanced at the crowd, as if looking for the people Percy mentioned.
And while Percy’s description made him frown, he remained ever curious.
“That depends,” he finally answered, trying to keep a cool head. “What exactly are you expecting from me, and what are you willing to give me for it?”
no subject
“What a dangerous little question,” he said, voice silken as he pulled Dorian closer with the next turn, close enough that their chests brushed. “You’ll have to be more specific, love. I expect a great deal from many people, and you’re far more... capable than most.”
His thumb pressed lightly against the small of Dorian’s back—not quite suggestive, but enough to imply he could be. If he wanted to be. If Dorian kept playing this game well.
“I need you to flirt with the valet,” Percy whispered. “Distract him long enough for me to break into the ambassador’s study. And while you’re at it, keep the countess’s attention just long enough that she doesn’t notice her ledger being replaced.”
A pause, then something darker sparked in his eyes. “As for what I’m willing to give...”
He turned Dorian again, slow and fluid, every motion polished and poised, but tight as a held breath.
“I’ll owe you. Not a favor. A secret. Mine, yours—whichever currency buys more that night.” His hand slid higher, only a breath away from propriety, eyes glittering.
“Or,” he added, almost carelessly, “I could ruin you in every ballroom in the Empire and still have the Queen calling you darling by morning.”
He tilted his head, as if appraising a painting.
“So tell me, Dorian,” he said softly, “what kind of story would you rather leave behind tonight? A whispered scandal… or a legend?”
no subject
The offering was what gave him pause, though, and he seemed to be considering it for a moment.
“Let me think on it for now,” he said with a small smile. “Thee answer might change, depending on how the job goes.”
