Open 24-hours, in large cities Wal-Mart is a place people show up to shop mindlessly for anything they need. In small towns, it may be literally the only business open after 10pm, making it an unlikely hang-out for locals.

Regardless of where it's located, Wal-Mart always seems to have the strange effect of making time crawl, as the aisles stretch on into infinity, and the tinny in-store music plays on a loop.

[In the gun section. Or getting birth control at the pharmacy. Or getting a bail bond. It's a one stop shop.]

They're both in the gun section. Fence is significantly underdressed for how consistently cool it is in here and he's hugging himself a little against the cold, but it's hot out and he'd have regretted not wearing shorts.

"Do you want one?"

[poleaxed]

Joan is wearing an oversized flannel shirt tied into ragged mom jeans. Perfectly warm, she idly sips at a blue-flavored big gulp.

"What, like, for fun?" She taps a (clocked) case of ammo. "It's almost pronghorn season." So, late summer.

[gauze]

"Yeah, like, for fun." He's looking at her shirt with a certain amount of envy. "You could take potshots out of the window."

[poleaxed]

Joan catches his eye and, sighing, she pulls off her shirt. Underneath, she's wearing a sports bra that makes her completely flat, but, more importantly, keeps her nipples from poking through shirt fabric in the cold environment of a Wal-Mart. "Here."

[gauze]

He grins, looking away so she doesn't catch the smug look on his face as he shrugs it on. It's still warm. "So do you want one or are you just looking to look?"

[poleaxed]

His grin is almost worth it; she has to fight to keep her mouth a flat, disapproving line. "You ever thought about-" saying it seems to be a bad idea. She leans toward him, her hand in the shape of a gun, and presses two fingertips onto his lower lip- "in bed?"

[ There's what appears to be a cosplayer lingering around the pharmacy, picking up various over the counter medicines, pouring over the labels before putting them back. ]

The Reiwa era's advancements are incredible.

[gauze]

He opens his mouth to bite the tip of her finger. "That'd be dangerous."

[poleaxed]

The thrill she feels at his tooth pressed to her skin is frankly shameful. "Wouldn't be loaded."

[gauze]

"Then what's the point."

[poleaxed]

She moves her head a little, whispering in his ear, "you wouldn't wanna see me suck the barrel?"

He inhales softly, turning his head until his nose nudges her cheek. He's about to say something when a stout middle-aged guy in a DON'T TREAD ON ME shirt nudges into Fence as he tries to get close to the counter. Fence clocks him and his expression immediately withers.

[poleaxed]

Joan draws away; she hates being seen being affectionate in public. Leaning against the cold counter, only half dressed, she says, "so, a six shooter?"

( no big deal, just a woman covered covered in blood in the first aid section, stocking up on gauze and antiseptic. she also has a few kitchen knives in her basket. )

[gauze]

"Sure." He gives the guy a wide berth, though he's still scowling a little. "How d'you wanna carry it?"

[poleaxed]

Joan briefly makes sure their designated interloper isn't watching before she makes another gun shape with her hand and slips two fingers down the front of her pants. "Hip holster." She is not touching her hip.

[gauze]

It's distracting enough for his expression to even out. He leans close to her, murmuring, "Don't make me wanna have sex in a Wal-Mart bathroom."

[poleaxed]

"Parking lot," Joan says. "The bathrooms are a biohazard."

[gauze]

"Last time we had sex in the car there was an old lady making eye contact with me."

[poleaxed]

"Did that make it better or worse for you?"

[gauze]

"Worse. Obviously worse."

[poleaxed]

"So you're telling me we gotta get shaded windows." Joan hooks one finger in the waistband of Fence's shorts, pulling it an inch out so it thwaps back against his hip.

[gauze]

He blinks. "Yeah. Or maybe you could stop talking about blowing a gun in public places so we can wait until we get home."
