FRIENDSHIP MEME

FRIENDSHIP MEME
( because love takes many forms. )

Friend;
noun
1. a person attached to another by feelings of affection or personal regard.
2. a person who gives assistance.
3. a person who is on good terms with another; a person who is not hostile.
4. a member of the same nation, party, etc.

Old Friends

1. Just chillin’. You just enjoy each other’s company, and you’re spending time somewhere that the only thing that matters is both of you, doing your thing.
2. A friend in need is a friend indeed. Hey man, my car broke down. Also, I might have to come stay with you a while because my significant other kicked me out... One of you is in a pickle! Time to test how far this friendship can go.
3. Bros b4 hos, man. Chicks b4 dicks. I’m really happy for your success in finding someone who might be interested in seeing you naked, but you need to remember that your friends need time too. Jealousy and friendly concern regarding relationships go here.
4. We’re gonna paint the town. Inflicting your friendship upon society. Maybe you’re going out for a party, maybe you’re just driving around. DO something together! Try something new!
5. I get by with a little help from my friends. You or your friend is in need of some emotional support during a difficult time. Whether it’s a shit situation or just whining, a friend is obligated to deal and give advice. Or are they?
6. Get in, loser, we’re going shopping. Whirlwind adventure time! Kidnap your a friend from their mundane schedule and play hookey! Run away together!
7. I love you, man. Showing your appreciation and affection for your friend, be it in gifts, gestures, or just an outright thank you.
8. Gurl, hold my poodle. A fight has broken out, and either one or both of you are involved. Do you/the friend break up the fight or jump right in to defend? Or maybe you’re in a situation neither of you could avoid - perhaps it’s war instead. What sort of team are you?
9. Long-lost. You’ve been driven apart by distance or circumstances, but you finally have the chance to see one another again. What’s the reunion like?
10. Misery loves company. Commiserating together. Maybe you’re stuck at a really boring afair, maybe you’re complaining about men/women/work. You’re allowed to be as nasty as you want in front of your best friends!
11. E tu, Brute? Betrayal. Whether intentional or not, one of you has let the other down. They’re not the person you thought they were.
12. I only tell you this because I care. Advice, possibly unsolicited. Your friend has been doing something you don’t like and you’re going to let them know. Yes, that dress does make you look fat.
13. Thinking of you. So I saw this hat on my way through the mall and thought of you! I found this cool/funny video and thought I’d pass it on! I felt like baking cookies and thought you might appreciate some.
14. Why are we friends, again? Argument! Know someone long enough and you’re bound to get in a few! Is someone just in a terrible mood? Or is there an actual issue? Fight it out, big or small! Small to big?
15. Too good of friends. Make-up prompt. You two got into it, and now it’s someone’s turn to step up and be the bigger person to preserve the friendship. How do you show you’re sorry? Is forgiveness possible?
16. Obligatory wildcard. Pick your own!

New Friends
Icebreakers for new interactions!

Reasons (Optional):

1. Convenience. You work together and carpool. You’re neighbors. You have the same classes. It’s just easier to get along than ignore each other.
2. Through an Acquaintance. They’re a friend of a friend, so naturally, you’ve had to deal with them every so often. But maybe you want to see what they’re like when it’s just the two of you?
3. Hardship. They came to help you out when you needed it, despite being a stranger. Comrades in arms.
4. Intrigue. You seem pretty cool. Want to hang out sometime?

Prompts

1. Party. So you should be friends with me, because I can drink a yard of beer and I’ve got the moves like Jagger.
2. Venue. Going to the movies, having lunch together, checking out the fair that came through town. It’s like a date, except getting to know them doesn’t come tied with a relationship.
3. Favor. Hey, I’m going out for a weekend. Would you mind feeding my cat? Can I borrow a little bit of money and pay you back later?
4. TMI. Um. No, I didn’t know you had a foot fetish! And I’m really not sure how I feel about it. I really don’t care how many cats you have. I’m not at liberty to discuss how much money I have.
5. Advice. Hey, do you mind giving a second opinion? Also, you never knew this about me, but I’m actually a ninja as a night job and I can give you some help with that self-defense issue you’ve been having?
6. Philosophy. Friendship’s first deep, serious conversation. What do you think of this current issue? What’s your religious standing?
7. Call me, text me. Hey, what’s up? NM here, just bored at work. Want to play Words with Friends? Casual conversations at a distance.
8. Forced association. Well, I’d better get going... nevermind, it looks like it’s flooding outside. Um. Usually the drive is ten minutes, but usually traffic isn’t a fifty-car pile-up... know any showtunes?
9. Upgrading. Roll from the Old Friends category and see if this friend is able to take the leap!
10. Wildcard Yep.

[Finally, a wide grin breaks out on his face, believing what he's seeing for the first time. His laughter echos through the stone walls as he picks her up in his wide arms and hugs her tight.] Rapunzel! [She's here, real, not a figment of his imagination he made up to try and get him through his desperate loneliness. He relishes that joy, that warmth, the best part of his entire childhood. Almighty God, how he has missed her.]

[When he breaks apart, he gets to study her properly, as his lost friend. There is still that wonder and energy in her eyes from her youth, but she holds herself with confidence and without fear. His little Punzie has grown into a woman. The biggest difference, however, is the most obvious.]
Your hair! [He touches its ends, remembering helping her brush it years ago.] What happened? Did -- did someone take it? [His expression grows more serious at the idea of someone hurting her, even in the past.]

[Even Jonathan would feel bad for her after that.]

I...apologize. That was never my intention.

[He didn't mean to make her feel that way. Especially considering he put himself in the same category.]
thewomanwhocounts: (Oh!)

[personal profile] thewomanwhocounts 2013-08-07 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh! No, no, I didn't mean that you-...!

[She shakes her head emphatically, stopping only because she didn't want to risk spilling scalding hot coffee all over him.]

I was just making an observation! Really, it's not as though I'd ever think that you'd try to... to belittle me or anything. You're not like that. I don't think so, anyway.
notmynature: (Don't you see?)

[She's already giggling before she even starts to finish.] A f-s-h. Get it! It's a fish with no 'i'. [She puts the book away, catching her breath.] I've already told a lot of 'em so it's harder to find new ones but that one's pretty funny, huh?

A fish with no i...

[Even spelled out, it still takes Mao a second to catch up.

Then he lets out a groan like he's suddenly come down with the worst stomach bug in the world, leaning over to give Ellie a light shove.]
That was awful! You're awful! [He hops down to the street below, not even bothering to look back, giving every impression that he is done with her and her punning.

At least until he calls back over his shoulder:]
Did you hear the one about the cross-eyed teacher? She lost her job because she couldn't control her pupils!

Clint rubbed his chin as he considered the menu, nodding slowly as Carol spoke. “Wings are always a good idea,” he said because, come on, who didn’t like a good ol’ plate of chicken wings? “I think I’m gonna go for the jalapeno poppers. Think you can handle ‘em?”

Hiding his smirk behind his menu, Clint peered over the top of it at Carol and raised an eyebrow as the waiter returned with their drinks.

Carol mirrored his actions, hiding her smirk behind her menu but arching her eyebrow that could only be read as "Clint, please." She could handle jalapeno poppers like a champ. Mix that with wings, strawberry lemonade, and a burger and tonight's dinner was getting more delicious by the second.

"Yeah, for appetizers we're going to split an order of wings and an order of the jalapeno poppers," she told the waiter as soon as he pulled out his notepad. Man, she had really forgotten how much she liked hanging out with Clint.

I would never.

[He tries to offer her a smile, but its not a very good one. While it was true he would never belittle her (he found her rather intelligent and at least competent in her field, though he didn't know much about it) she certainly didn't know him well enough to say 'he wasn't like that.' He'd often bluntly informed Arkham employees what he thought of their work, and it usually wasn't positive.]

Why don't we sit?

[personal profile] notmynature 2013-08-10 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
[She hops down before moving over, patting him on the back as she lets out another laugh.] Ha, that was pretty good! I knew you had it in you. You can borrow the book, if you want.

[Another laugh as she shakes her head.] She couldn't control her pupils. That was funny. Okay, okay, I think I got one. [Going from memory now.]

Why didn't the bicycle go outside?

...I genuinely could not find the answer.

[personal profile] freshmanleader 2013-08-10 03:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe I will. [He smiles wryly, looking back the way they've come where their two adults are waiting.] Dad needs some new material or we're both gonna go nuts. I'll let you have number six as collateral.

I don't know. Why didn't the bicycle go outside? [Even when he knows the answer to these puns, feeding the question instead is practically second nature to Mao by now.]

After Carol ordered their appetizers and her own meal, Clint put in his order for a burger and fries before settling back in his seat and taking a sip of his beer. Oh yeah, this was all exactly what he had needed tonight.

“So how goes the cleanup effort?” he asked, setting the glass back on the table. The first few days had been the worse, crime wise, with all the looting that tends to take place in damaged areas, but it had petered off pretty quick. That didn’t mean the dangers were gone with it, though. Clint was out there helping as much as he could, but he wasn’t as prominent nor as trusted as Carol.
thewomanwhocounts: (Tentative smile)

[personal profile] thewomanwhocounts 2013-08-11 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
[She cracks a small smile at his response. She certainly doesn't know enough about him to say anything conclusively, but she likes to believe the best in people, so she's just glad that she does't have any reason not to so far.]

Yes, please!

[She gestures towards a few of the empty tables, absently making her way over there.]

So... are you going to have any time to do anything unrelated to work while you're here? A little sight-seeing, perhaps?
cheeseburgermarvel: (listening / thinking)

[personal profile] cheeseburgermarvel 2013-08-11 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Carol took a long sip from her lemonade before relaxing back in her chair and shaking her head. "Mindless, really. I know I'm doing important work to keep the city in order, but I don't know, I also feel like I could be doing more. I should be off chasing AIM soldiers, not just patrolling the streets to make sure the looters stay away."

She did actually see a fair bit of action. There were black market dealers who tried to get their hands on alien tech and not-so-legit scientists trying to scrape out some alien DNA. "I could use a decent partner," she added casually. "You know, someone who can hold their own, but also back me up and tell me what's headed my way."

[personal profile] arkham_doctor 2013-08-12 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
[Jonathan follows her over towards the tables, taking a seat at a small two-top against the wall.]

Honestly, I hadn't planned on it. [But had that been an insinuation?] I'm sure could take some time to do so, though.

[personal profile] broken_arrow 2013-08-12 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Clint nodded as Carol spoke. It did seem like a waste of her particular skills and talents to keep her grounded and on cleanup duty. She could be doing so much more, but then couldn’t all of them? Clint sure as hell knew he was sick and tired of desk duty and training recruits and psyche evaluations and... well, there was a lot he was sick and tired of. Some days he was just plain tired.

“Yeah, that’s be nice, huh? Too bad Steve ran off to Washington, he’s probably just the man for the job.” Just the man for a lot of jobs, it seemed. Of course Clint didn’t add the fact that Steve had ran off with his partner, but that was just an unnecessary statement; everyone knew Natasha had gone with him, and rumour had it that they made a pretty great team.

Maybe feeling like most of his coworkers blamed him or were afraid of him wouldn’t be so bad if he wasn’t also feeling replaced by Mr. Perfect in the life of the one person who really understood everything he was going through.

Oh, sorry, Captain Perfect.

cheeseburgermarvel: (listening / thinking)

[personal profile] cheeseburgermarvel 2013-08-13 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
Truth be told, Carol did want to work with Steve at some point. She thought he was a hell of a soldier and thought they would fight well together. So yeah, Steve might have been a good fit. But SHIELD had a super soldier and they wanted to use him to do other things. Other things with Clint's partner. Carol felt like she ought to say something like 'Hey, he'll never replace you!' because, well, she thought it might be rubbing salt in wounds.

She shook her head and took another sip of lemonade. "I mean you, Clint. I grant you it's not much more exciting than training, but it'd be a slight change of scenery and keep your days a little more interesting." Not to use a bird metaphor, but she knew that keeping Clint caged just to stew over Natasha and Loki and the helicarrier was probably driving him up a wall.

Carol was well aware that she could never replace Natasha, but maybe he'd consider a substitute while his usual one was away.

[ Wally nodded at the question, after having chugged a can of soda and letting out what was probably an earth-shaking burp. He'd learned the grace to blush after something like that and grin sheepishly. ] 'Scuse me...

And yeah. Ran. Kid Flash - former sidekick to the Flash - running's kinda what we do?
thewomanwhocounts: (Grinning)

[personal profile] thewomanwhocounts 2013-08-13 06:30 pm (UTC)(link)
[Sliding in across from him, she wraps her hands around her coffee, nodding enthusiastically.]

I would recommend it, if you have the time. Largely because us locals are too busy being... well, busy to do as much sight-seeing as we'd like, so I always recommend it to people visiting.

[personal profile] arkham_doctor 2013-08-13 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Would you maybe like to show me around?

[He asks with a friendly smile before taking a sip of his own drink. It's an excuse for her to make time, isn't it?]

Him; she meant him. He probably should have seen that coming, but he was so caught up in his own bitterness lately that it made him shortsighted, a huge handicap on someone who saw better at a distance.

It was an interesting proposition, and while the job itself might not be the most exciting it would still get him out of headquarters, get him out in the field again. The very idea of it almost made his skin itch in anticipation, and the best part was that Carol didn’t seem to be settling for him; it actually seemed like he was her first choice.

“You think Fury would go for it?” Clint asked, skipping over the jokes entirely and just asking flat out.

cheeseburgermarvel: (captain: in action)

[personal profile] cheeseburgermarvel 2013-08-14 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
Time to get over the bitterness, Clint. Or, well, at least bury it and focus on something else. Either way, it's time to get you back into the field. And if it can't be with Nat, at least it's with another kick ass lady.

"I think so," Carol replied quickly. "I already ran it by Hill and she thinks it's a good idea. Among the three of us, I can't see why the hell he'd say no. I think you and I would make a hell of a team."

In addition to just wanting Clint as a partner, it was an ideal situation for all parties involved. SHIELD could keep an eye on Clint with him being in the city and Clint could get back in action.
thewomanwhocounts: (Looking down)

[personal profile] thewomanwhocounts 2013-08-14 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
[She looks genuinely shocked by his proposal, a small blush rising to her cheeks.]

Oh! Um, well... maybe? I mean, yes! Yes, of course. Whenever you wrap things up tonight, you can come find me in the morgue and we can talk it over. I don't expect a long night. Or I can finagle a free day and see about showing you around then, if you prefer.

There was only one other person there, and he was not looking like he was going to offer her an explanation on why things were running late. He also didn't talk to her or look at her after he sat down.

He had some form of entertainment and she was stuck with out anything, so she did what anyone would do. She grabbed her bag, marched over and dropped into the seat beside him. Still looking sour, still giving off that hostile vibe, but leaning over his shoulder to watch whatever he was watching.
arkham_doctor: (You expect me to believe that?)

[personal profile] arkham_doctor 2013-08-14 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
[Jonathan hadn't meant to shock her, although he suspected his question might have that effect. Still, he smiles a little at her over his coffee.]

I'll come find you. [The prospect of the morgue didn't bother him at all.] I find things tend to look better in evening light anyway.

[personal profile] broken_arrow 2013-08-16 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
So she had been thinking about this for a while, or at least long enough to ask Agent Hill about it. Really, with that kind of recommendation even Clint couldn’t see how Fury would have a problem with it.

Regarding for a few moments in silence, Clint rubbed his chin in thought before finally extending his hand across the table to Carol.

“Well, in that case... I think you got yourself a partner, partner,” he said, grin returning. This was probably exactly what he needed, someone to give him a chance, an opportunity to prove himself. There was only so much he could do conducting training sessions and running the whole gamut of tests they threw at him; he needed something real, something to help him regain confidence in himself if he was ever going to earn back the trust of his coworkers.
