Most of the regulations are geared toward keeping a lower-ranking member of the crew from being taken advantage of by a higher-ranking partner or the safety of the rest of the crew in situations of bias with assignment equality, so I'm pretty confident in the 'look the other way' status as long as I don't go categorically insane.
