Hello, and welcome to The Care and Keeping of Your Pet! As you surely know, a pet is a big responsibility, and we're so glad you've decided to be a concientious master. A safe pet is a happy pet, and this handbook is certain to keep your precious lifelong friend as content as can be. The history of the animal person is a long and difficult one, with their origins not being known even to this day. However, scientists believe that despite our common appearance - most animal people have humanoid forms except for the ears, tails, and sometimes teeth - we share no common ancestry, even if the ascent of this species corresponds with that of the homo sapien. We gained dominance over each breed thousands of years ago, beginning with the dog type, who have long been considered "man's best friend." Most breeds these days are docile and perfect for owners of any speed. Of course, it is our duty as the superior species to take care of these animal creatures, and this is inherent in their genetic makeup. Everyone knows that an animal person, when matched with their correct human master, is loyal for life - a true "soulmate," if you will. Far be it for us to turn this away! Ever since the Great Domestication, these intelligent and loving animals have served us as friends, workmates, guardians, servants, and sexual companions and will for years to come. Despite recent hubbub from so-called "Pet People's Rights Activists," this way of life is wholesome and good. Scientific research shows that the natural desire of the pet person is to be owned and cared for by a human. So, it's your first pet. What do you need to know? As previously stated, pet people come in as many breeds as you can possibly think of. By far and away the most popular are the dog and cat types, but exotic birds and lizards have been gaining popularity among trendsetters from L.A. to Tokyo! All pet types are best suited for certain jobs, and when hunting for one, it is best to search for a type that suits your needs best. However, a "True Match" - when a pet person bonds with you and only you for the rest of their natural lives - comes naturally, and sometimes takes time before you can find the pet you will be able to give a forever home to. According to all current research, pet people are completely sentient and like us in many ways. However, it is important to remember that they have many animalistic and feral characteristics. Do not be foolish and think that your pet is a person, despite the facts that many are clothed and may be allowed to read, write, and have "hobbies." Some traditional pet owners may eschew these frivolities, and that is within their right. Pet people age more quickly than humans, at least physically, and many types have long lifespans. It is not uncommon for pets to be passed through the family. When getting your child their first pet, it's important to keep in mind that just because the pup is tiny now, a grown pet can be jumpy around a small child. It is important to train a pet. Discipline will be necessary. This does not make you a bad owner. Failure to train early will result in a rebellious pet. Training is especially important if you want your pet to serve as a household servant. Remember, your pet will be extremely protective of you, especially if you are Truly Bonded. It is best to socialize them early. A socialized pet is a perfect family pet. These days, unowned and unbonded pet people are allowed to live as strays or "Frees" in certain designated areas. Some even hold "jobs." This is against their best interest, and owners who adopt these strays are to be rewarded. Still, the best place to get pets are from liscenced kennels or breeders. Some masters find it beneficial to participate in activities with their pets, such as shows and other competitions. Finally, much has been made about the sexual relationship between pet and master. This is a normal facet of the bond, and humans are sure to find pet people sexually alluring. But beyond that, it is only responsible and prudent for owners to care for their pet's needs. It is a well-known fact that the libidos of pet people are remarkably strong, and when they go into heat, it is usually more convenient for a master to relieve them. There is no risk of pregnancy. All rumors of hybrids are urban legends. Despite this, masters must remember to not view their pets as romantic partners. Humans should stay with humans. Needless to say, The Care and Keeping of Your Pet is a bit biased and full of propaganda, but it gives a good idea of the world your character is now AU's into. They are either a pet person or a human master, and what that means for them varies. So are they a devoted pet or a rebellious animal person looking to buck the system? A generous master or a cruel sexual sadist? Just a normal pet owner? Most likely they're something in between, but when you're raised in this world, it's difficult to see anything different on the horizon. Rules Comment with your character and say whether they'd be a master or a pet. Ideally, they could be played as both. Mention what kind of each they'd be and what they'd be like, (ie: "Xx-chan is a bunny girl who is happy to please her master" or "Asterothia is a cat boy who is aloof but loyal to his true master"). For pets, be sure to include features ("wolf ears, tail, teeth). REMEMBER, pet does not automatically equal submissive and master automatically equal dominant. This is not a BDSM setting though BDSM can be included. How far you want to go with the actual "pet" aspect is up to you, as well. Your pet could just be your slightly-furry roommate or soulmate! Comment to others. Play out the scene.

Can you learn new tricks? True Bond: What all masters and pets yearn for...the pet's loyalty and adoration for life. Love: It's expected for masters to love their pets, but to love them? Romance is strictly forbidden. Old "Couple": Master and pet have grown together and know each other. You know, know each other. Loss of Master: The pet has lost their master, perhaps even their True Bond. Is it possible to move on? Young Master/Older Pet: Pets age quicker than masters, so it's possible to end up with a bit of an "age" difference. Family Pet: This pet's been raised as part of the family. What happens when their feelings for a family member get more than platonic. For Your Protection: You don't want to be a master, but you have to take in a pet for their protection lest they be in danger from the general public. Stray: You're a stray or a "Free." Can you live like this with your biology screaming for you to make a match? Servant: You're more servant than pet. All Sex, All the Time: The only purpose for this pet is to service the master, and not in a way that means cleaning their house. Guard: You're a loyal bodyguard, a service pet. You'll do anything for your master. Anything. Pet Play: This is for those who prefer to keep their animals on leashes, have them eat from bowls, and keep away from clothing. Breaking In: Training is important with any pet. In Love with Another Master...or Pet: To lust after another's master is no better than treason, and to wish to be with another pet just cruel! Punishment: Bad dog, no nookie! Heat: All pets go into heat, and it's the responsibility of the owner to take care of this problem. After all, unchecked dry humping kills thousands every year. Breeding: Breeders know the best qualities in each type and mate the cream of the crop together to continue lines. It's a hobby for some, a calling for others. Pregnancy: So, about that whole "hybrid" thing. It maaaay be more true than you think, even if pet/human pregnancies are the stuff of salacious tabloids. Territorial: Hey, hey, other dog person! This is your apartment. Stay the fuck out! Kennel: Kennels are where unadopted pets are kept. They're generally agreed to be depressing places. Why not volunteer at one, keeping the pets healthy and happy with the kind of affection only humans can show? Rebelling Against the System: Damn the Man! Pet people are people, too! Just be careful not to get talk. You know what happens to bad pets. Instant Attraction: You ever just look at someone and know they're the one? That they're...your master? But what if you've been trying to fight it? Well, don't try! Dominant Pet: You might be the pet, but you call the shots, at least in the bedroom. Pet Show: Everyone wants to show off how perfect their animal is. Look at that ass! And you'll never believe their special skills... Therapeutic: Pets, especially those bred for their kindliness, are perfect therapy for those who've been through trauma and heartache. Jealousy: Who's that around your master? Oh, hell no. They better not be touching them! Petting: Pet people are absolutely gaga for being touched. Even the most steely ones turn to mush for rubs. Games: Playing with your pet and giving them exercise is a key to happiness. Of course, with a pet person, you might want to use other toys instead of a ball.

as a pet — cat, fox, or songbird. originally a stray, then passed between various homes; she spent a while as the seemingly pampered pet of a wealthy family, but was eventually left at a shelter again. skittish and occasionally shows moments of intense prey animal wariness, but otherwise very affectionate, obedient, and eager to please her owner whether they're kind or cruel to her.
as an owner — fond of more dominant or pushy pets for this option! the (adopted) daughter of wealthy socialites, likely either with an older family pet, a new one that her middle brother has gifted her, or secretly hiding a stray she's trying to care for. monstrous pet types may feel an instinctive affinity with her. kind and gentle as an owner, but strangely cautious and distant at times.

Every pet that leaves their stores is pre-trained to be the perfect companion and while nobody ever says anything about romance, they sure do only sell pretty girls and they sure do talk a whole lot about how their pets are perfect for anyone feeling lonely and all the rest of it...

Ai is, at least on the surface, a happy-go-lucky, ditzy and affectionate pet absolutely overflowing with love for her owner. She's kind of a pathetic failwife in a way that is acceptably cute and moe for about two weeks and becomes increasingly pathetic and alarming the more you realize just how utterly lacking in a lot of basic common sense she is. But she's a designer pet so that's all by design, right?

The truth is that she's actually a stray abandoned by her first owner and snatched up by Strawberry Productions to tidy up and sell. She passes easily as a 'designer pet' but is terrified of anyone finding out the truth. Has a lot of her same canon hangups about her inability to sincerely love, her self-percieved 'dirtiness' as used goods, etc because I could replace every instance of 'idol' in the OnK script with 'pet' and upsettingly little would change!!!

as a pet - It only fits that the snake stay a snake, often looked over because of the typical assumptions about them. Otherwise is very affectionate, kind, gifted with medical knowledge (some innate and some picked up,) and very attached. Will do anything and everything for whomever adopts them with enthusiasm. Will also entertain as a dancer, and could be found at pet shows for a nice display piece until someone buys the exotic pet.

as a master - Will take in even the grumpiest of strays, mostly looking for those that have the right spark that calls to them. They live modestly by choice, which means ample savings to spoil and make their pet the happiest they'd like. Until finding 'the one', will often volunteer at kennels.

Ko has been dreading this since he was brought here a few days prior — but now that his heat is here it’s eroding at his inhibitions pretty quickly. Pride and need, clashing at one another like that … Ko is in no small measure of agony about it.

But if his new master isn’t around … it might be fine to take care of on his own. Sequestered in a pile of blankets and stolen soft things — his ears perked up and on high alert for anything that might signal an intrusion. Messing his hand over himself, testing at his own sensitivity … He twitches his hips up into his own touch, drawing his legs open. Good thing he’s always been quiet.

Only to hear a noise closer than he anticipated; he panics, pulling his hand away and rolling over onto his side, black puppy tail flopping onto the pile, trying to make himself look innocent.

“I wasn’t doing anything!”

It was always said that 'pets' took time to adjust when being brought into a new home, and Jisu was very diligent on balancing space and whatever would be needed. Ko even had his own room, attached to hers, which was decorated on whatever it seemed the pup was enamored with. She didn't even say anything when things from her own room disappeared. After all, that just meant he was adding her scent to his space, right? There was even an open invitation to sleep in her bed if he was lonely, or afraid of being alone.

Jisu was bringing in a fresh load of laundry with new blankets and clothes, when suddenly hearing Ko before she got to knock at the door. Curious, the door was opened and she let herself in with the new bundle. It was so odd, she couldn't completely interpret the expression on his face. "It's okay if you are, you know."

Walking in, the cloth basket was set down next to the pile before she knelt down. So far, it seems that she hadn't noticed whatever he could be doing. "This is your home now, Ko. If you want to do something, you should do it. Just as I said you don't have to be limited to staying in your room. I just want you comfortable and happy."

Ko is silent as he watches her. Contemplative, cheeks flushed from the embarrassment that she … seems to be playing off perfectly. Suggesting there’s no reason for him to be embarrassed — and straight up saying he can do what he wants.

But it’s not that easy. Back in the UK, he was taught to be unobtrusive. Staying to himself, aching for company and denied it at every turn.

He just grabs at one of the stolen soft things next to him — some sort of top, pulling it close to his chest and over his mouth to obscure it.

“Don’t know if I believe you.”

Stubborn. But his tail wags a bit at the scent anyway.

As she personally learned, the best way to get past embarrassment was to treat what was happening as normal as anything else. Which, there certainly were plenty of things she had to learn to be more secure over.

"I know," and she was prepared for that. Even now there was hesitation before Jisu reached over to run her hand through his blond hair and along the cute ears. Despite saying that, the fact that he was pulling her night shirt close to him was a good sign. "It'll take time, and us getting to know one another. I'll be here whenever you're ready."

She was certainly a hoverer; all too concerned and wanting to provide instant comfort.

Instead of shrinking into himself or turning away, Ko leans into that touch. Not consciously — instinct and feeling, tilting his head into her hand. Eyes slipping closed for a moment. Maybe … one day, he can lay his head in her lap. Maybe accept affection in longer stretches of time. Maybe even show her his belly, let her do as she pleases—

He feels himself go wetter between the legs and whines at the feeling — screwing his eyes shut tight. He turns his head away.

“Need a toy …”

To have her touch accepted at all felt nice. Ko couldn't see with his eyes closed, but there's a gentler smile as she continued to pet his head and rub her fingers against his ears, enjoying the soft fur. Even turning his head away doesn't stop her, but the request does give a momentary pause in the motions. There certainly was something going on.

"Whatever you want," with the tone of 'please let me spoil you.' She'd provided some kinds of enrichment, generic and suitable for all pets, but waited to get more personable until knowing what her future pet could want. "Tell me what kind of toy you want and I'll get it. I'll give you anything."

That tone doesn’t go unnoticed. It might have gotten him to melt a little more if he weren’t so embarrassed at his own needs. He hunches into himself, unsure how to communicate it.

Still looking away — at the wall, like he cannot and will not look anywhere else — he shifts on his back. Legs falling open again, though they do so in slow motions that seem to stutter.

“This kind.”

He brings his hand down, pressing at his cunt over the fabric of his shorts, a small wet spot in the front that makes him snap his legs shut again.

Now she understood. It was a request, so there's no doubt that she'll make sure there are toys like that available for whatever purpose. However, this told her far more, and it explained the jumpiness from before. Given the means she'd acquired Ko, there wasn't the most extensive paperwork or health write up, so something was bound to happen like this. Jisu hoped that there was a little more time, so that he wasn't so hunched together in response over it.

Rubbing his shoulder to soothe any nerves, she reached over to give the side of his legs a similar comforting motion. "I'll come back with some options for you, okay? Don't feel pressed to wear anything, and just take care of your comfort."

While getting up to do so, a brief kiss was given to the side of his head. She'll get everything that appealed best to dogs in heat, including returning in a less... restrained way, as she was in the habit of doing.

( akira is likely an abandoned pet in a pound, or grew up as a stray/runaway. he would be very very friendly and protective, but is not very trusting. good luck trying to clip his nails or brush his very wild hair/tail or give him any kind of medicine. you can try to trap him, but that will be an ongoing battle for months and not for the faint of heart.

as for the type of pet, he's a domesticated panther or a nightingale. if you really wanna go for gold, he can also be a mer variant. any shipping would be m/m preferred unless it's a canonmate! )

The kiss at his head gets him to make a small noise of surprise in his throat, but he watches her leave, a pang of want where she was.

When she’s gone, his mind wanders. Keeping his hands to himself, it’s like that heat creeps deeper into him, some kind of virus let loose. He should wait. It’ll be better with the toy. It’ll be better with the toy. It’ll be so good — better with her hands and mouth and praise — and that tears it.

And by the time she returns, he’s without his shirt, flipped onto his stomach. Rutting against his pile, face buried in the sleep shirt with his hand down his shorts. Tail wagging harder at the sound of her returning.

She's actually surprised that he still wore the shorts, but perhaps it was the feeling of something staying against his body there that he really wanted. It was easier to think about the softer thoughts, than what her body seemed to be wanting to respond to with that entire scene greeting her...

"I bring options," she said, close enough to rub Ko's back, just above that wagging tail. Maybe it was a case of not trusting yet, but already liking who he was with? Hiking up the skirt a little, to keep the fabric loose and comfortable, this time she sat on the pile, at the edge. "A few different toys that were recommended, but- Well, I heard it helps more if the owner's more involved. Would you like that?"

As encouraging and welcoming as Jisu was, she wasn't without her shy points. Taking the toys out of the bag, she laid them down along her lap, petting his shoulder once they were available for the choosing.

Exceptionally cranky and aggressive while also being particularly self loathing. Maybe someone can get through to her?

Just keep her well cared for or the local people will start to go missing.]

The scent of her — it just agrees with him, something he wants to keep there in front of him. Heart and mind not quite caught up with his body. He slides his hand out, rolling onto his side and then propping himself up to look over the toys. Bangs in his face, peeking up at her through them.

His chest is small, just barely a handful — nipples hard and sensitive where he ignores them for a moment.

“Involved? … Let me pick first.”

He blinks, looking the toys over. He’s had experience — stuff he doesn’t want to think about, he misses that other pup so much. Playing with Reiji was … fun. Warmth and love. He didn’t even mind when Reiji said cheesy stuff about them escaping and being together.

Where had he gone?

He presses his lips in a line.

“… Are they supposed to feel different if they’re shaped like this?” He picks up one with a more dramatic curve in it, designed for a g-spot. “I … I don’t know. I … the pup I had before had a knot …”

He picks one up, face coloring red, but he’s panting at the sight and the idea of it.

“Like this.” He wipes up some drool with his free hand. Just ignoring that. He honestly doesn’t know if he wants her gone or not — can’t figure it out. “I don’t know … maybe … petting me more … it’s a lot to get used to.”
