My purpose
![]() It's only business, nothing personal...at least, that's how it started. You were pegged as the right one for a job that involves this person; your task could be positive, such as protecting them with their consent or without it, guiding them from point a to point b, and the like - or, as seedier transactions tend to go, it could be negative. You have to take them back to a place they really don't want to return to, you have to be a jailor, or you even have to be their assassin. At the very least, helping or hurting, you'll be compensated generously (by money or, you know, by not being killed off). And that was all that mattered. Until they mattered. They could have shown you something you never knew existed in the world or in yourself. They could have done any number of things, yet they've won you and your feelings over. Your priorities just may shift because of this, but will their view of you do the same as soon as they learn why you were around them in the first place? For your own gain? Will they be able to forgive you? Even if they can, will they be able to see you the way you see them?

Once a venerated general, no longer did Geshu stand on the frontlines. In his 'shame' in the wake of the Battle Under the Crescent, rather than to die in combat; He'd survived to live in a position that stripped him of rank and had him running a myriad of oddjobs for the Magistrate herself. Jihnsi was respectable enough, at the very least, and thus left him with little complaint towards her and the orders that she issued to him.
This time, it was a simple matter--Escort and work alongside an agent of the Black Shores, and gather information regarding the Fractsidus. While admittedly apprehensive upon meeting the young woman, she'd proven to be a remarkably skilled warrior and dispelled his doubts in the recent scuffle with those damn Tacet Discord worshiping fools. Setting his sword beside him as he seated himself atop one of the many shattered boulders that littered the terrain of the Desorock Highland. While it provided shelter for them, it would unfortunately mean the same for any lingering pursuers they might have.
"Rest. I will keep watch."
no subject
It had proven quite interesting to meet him in person, however. Firefly was quite aware of the fact that she looked rather delicate and ill-prepared for the trek they were to make, but nevertheless she'd fallen into step with him easily enough and made no complaint even when they'd had to cross rough terrain. Their occasional fights with TDs along the way hadn't been anything especially complicated... and it had been quite nice to see the former General in action. Not that she'd shied away from combat, of course.
Facing the Fractsidus was a bit more troublesome, and had ended up one of the more complex fights they'd had on their hands. Especially because she'd needed to ensure she could search them when they'd finished, to see if she could find even a portion of a key she'd need when they finally reached their general destination. She hadn't been completely unscathed after that conflict, but the small cut had been minor enough she'd simply tied a bit of bandaging above her knee and gone about her searching.
That had all led them to tonight, of course. Most of their supplies would be what they could put together along the way -- aside from bandages of course -- but that certainly wasn't enough to keep Firefly from being able to make a little something once she'd settled into their shelter. Anything especially fragrant would only draw attention to where they were... but that didn't mean the bit of warm food and drink she prepared lacked in anything else. The most important part was that they remained fed and warm after all.
"You do plan to switch with me at some point and get some rest yourself, right?"
While there's a faint prodding edge to the soft words, it had nothing to do with doubt on her part. Setting the warm portion of food and drink at his side before she withdraws, Firefly does hope she's managed to at least make it clear she intended to do her part as well as he was doing his. The light note of concern in her voice may be clear enough, but it really was common sense to her -- people needed rest to be at their best after all. No matter their competence.
