[ it always depends on what individual clients want, of course, but the first part of an evening often goes the way this one has—his main objectives are avoiding conversational pitfalls and keeping the sake flowing. (it's fortunate that he's the one in charge of pouring—it means that he can usually stick to the routine of one for the client, one for himself... and after that, one, two, however many more for the client, and only tea for himself. he tends to get carried away when he drinks for pleasure, so he's learned to be pretty careful about it.) (occasionally someone will actively encourage or even insist that he keep drinking, too, and of course in that case it can't be helped!)
what he knows for certain about tonight's client is that he's tall and handsome, and what he's further gleaned is that he's rough around the edges and (perhaps) a bit cocky. it's all reasonably promising! (or, in the interest of not getting ahead of himself: none of it bodes ill!)
it would appear to be go time, so he smiles, brushes some nonexistent dust off his kimono, and moves over to perch on his client's muscular thigh. (it feels nice to get out of seiza!) ]
