SUMMER BARBECUE PARTY

It's that time of year again, time for backyard barbecues, swimming pools, games, and fireworks, all while pretending the sun isn't blazingly hot overhead. So welcome to the party! Imagine yourself in an immense yard, with a barbecue grill and tables full of food on the patio, a sparkingly bright pool nearby, and chairs and benches set under trees and pavilions and whatever other shade is available. Now go to it.

Excuse Victor, Catbug, he's trying to get a good look at your back while he chews on some spare ribs.}

[Catbug turns around and looks up at the man!]

Hi Mister! I"m Catbug. What's your name?

{Victor needs a moment to swallow what he's eating, but he grins at the little guy.}

I'm Victor Van Dort. Nice to meet you! Sorry if I disturbed you, I was just fascinated by your wings. . .

I like your legs! You're tall.

[Catbug flew up so that he can see them.] My wings let me be in the air!

{Victor chuckles a little.}

Thank you. . . And I see! They're quite lovely wings too. Like a ladybug's.

[Catbug laughed in his cute little way.]

Oh, no, that's just the name of the bug that has wings like yours. The Coccinellidae family of beetles.

{Yes, Victor, Catbug is totally going to understand that big long Latin name.}

Beetles! [Catbug laughs.] lets go get some drinks, Victor!

Yes, beetles!

I'm not opposed to drinks. {He needs something to wash these ribs down.} What do they have, do you know?

I don't know. Let's go see! [He starts flying over to the table of food and thing.]

[butterflyboy]

{Victor follows, hoping there's non-alcoholic options. He's not much of one for drinking. Fortunately, it looks like there's a bowl of regular old punch to be had.}

Pour me some!

[butterflyboy]

{Manners, Catbug -- though, since you're cute, Victor will pour you a glass, as well as one of his own.}

Here you are.

Thank you, mister! [Catbug took the drink, and sipped on it happily.] Punch!

{Ah, there we go. Victor lifts his own glass.}

{And then he takes a drink. Mmmm, this is good.}

This is a nice party, isn't it?

Making new friends is always nice! I can be very shy at parties.

{He's something of a wallflower, honestly. Mostly because the typical sort of party he goes to is one of those ultra-posh if-you're-not-noble-we'll-judge-you-so-hard ones. Ribs and punch are much more his speed.}

I -- generally don't do well in c-crowds. And I don't usually have such pleasant company.

Well. . .because usually I'm with my parents, and -- people tend not to like my parents. They're kind of loud, bossy people. And they think I'm the same, so. . .
