1. first day
Catch up with old friends, brave new teachers, fight your way through the sea of students, and hope you're in the right classroom. Oh, you're the new kid. Well, that's okay as long as you've got more than enough summer vacation anecdotes to fill ten pages of Times New Roman size 12, single-spaced.

2. first period
You're gonna be late! Or are you already there? Class hasn't started just yet, so chat it up or copy your classmate's homework before the teacher gets here.

3. lesson proper
You're probably diligently taking notes, looking out the window daydreaming or reciting in class, much to your teacher's delight - or dismay. Try not to be too obvious when counting down the minutes and pass that note as discreetly as possible.

4. faculty
Have a bone to pick with your terror math teacher. A crush on the cute chemistry teacher? There might be something you want to ask your homeroom teacher about. In any case, you plan on seeing a faculty member today. Or maybe they plan on seeing you!

5. lunch break
Man, you are starving. Hopefully, today's menu has something good. If the crowded cafeteria's not your thing, try the rooftop.

6. hooky
One of you is skipping class. You should try talking them out of it if that's your thing.

What on earth did you do to get this? Oh well. Detention can't be that bad when you've got all these very nice, approachable model students around to talk to.

[He was told to see her after class, so here he was. Not like he really would have under any normal circumstances, by Professor Romanoff seems the type to hunt people down for misconduct. Literally.

He exhales a bored sigh before crossing his arms, waiting for her to get over the whole reprimanding scpheel even if he feels it's unwarranted. I mean, just because it was the last month of the semester and he hasn't attended art class aside from the first day didn't mean they had to make a whole big commotion about it.]

[ Natasha's young, for a person in her profession, though there are rumors about that too: that Natasha's not her real name. That she's russian. That her credentials are fake, you know? But none of that hampers her ability to teach art and create art and none of that has any impact on how she runs her classes, like a tight ship, and she's not afraid to flunk you if you don't put some effort into it.

So yeah; she notices when a student doesn't show up, ever, and she notices when the student has a powerful last name like Stark.

Lucky for him, Natasha doesn't actually start the lecture. Instead she just sits at her desk and makes him wait while she grades a few papers, thank you. ]

[His fingers drum against his arm as he waits.

Look, Ms..... [A quick glance at the nameplate on her desk.] Romanoff, can you just yell at me and get this over with. Slap me with detention, suspension, whatever? I kinda have somewhere I need to be. [Or more like somewhere he'd prefer to be.]

[ Her voice is just as firm as it is quiet. She doesn't seem to be bothered by his tapping or even his impatience. Her pen just continues to move across the paper, pausing occasionally to read over the answers.

For the record: she plans to take longer than a minute. ]

[Uh-huh, well, teacher, if you plan to make him wait he isn't going to stay idle for long because that's boring. He'll give her the minute, but it didn't mean he was going to spend it acting like a statue.

Out comes the mobile, his fingers now occupied with checking and replying to any messages he missed before he stepped into the classroom.]

[ Sure. She lets that continue for no longer than five minutes before she puts her pen down, and, after a beat, calmly comes closer. Her heels click along the ground and she lays her hand out to him, palm-flat, her expression stone cold.

Give her the phone first, Tony. You can have it back after the talk. ]

[Of course she never told him that's what she wanted and, being who he is, he glances down and says with a serious nod.]

You got a good life line; and right here it says that you are the merciful kind of teacher who thinks students should enjoy life and let them off the hook without even considering a note to their parents. A little fuzzy on my palm-reading, but I think I'm in the ballpark with this one.

[ That's the thing about Ms Romanoff. She does not engage.

She stares you down like she's the bull and you're the one holding the big red flag, Stark. The phone, please. ]

[The staring contest goes on for a good long moment, but then he rolls his eyes, makes a show of finishing up a text and sending it before he drops the phone into her palm.]

[ As soon as it lands in her hand, Natasha steps away. She puts it at the end of her desk, then draws up a chair to sit opposite him, legs crossed at the ankle.

It's another staring contest, but this time she breaks it. ]

Why did you choose my class, Tony?

Uh technically I didn't. It was the only one that filled this time slot and, for some reason, the Home Ec. teacher refuses to let me take part two of her class this year. [Not since the incident that forced the school to change the Home EC room entirely.]

So, let's just chock it up to circumstance.

Okay. [ It's the honest answer, which Natasha can appreciate. Still, that doesn't change much, does it? ]

So it shouldn't bother you that I'm going to flunk you.

[He blinks, slowly. It's not often a teacher would do that outright. Or admit they would right away. What happened to the "think about your future" and "you won't be able to get away with this in the real world" crap?]

That's it? No talk, no appeal to vow to become a better student, no warnings for the generalized future? Just an 'F'?

[ She shrugs. It's probably the most non-teachery thing she's done during the whole semester. Besides, Natasha's never bought that line of teaching. 'Get away with this in the real world?' Please. This is the real world. ]

If you wanted something different, you would have attended your classes, [ She says, simply. ] You had the chance to do what you wanted. This is what you chose.

Yeah, but it's not like you need to take an art class to qualify for many future careers. Except. Maybe. One like yours.

Tell me, Ms. Romanoff, how does art, in any way, benefit a student; prepare them for college?

I'm not going to waste my time giving you an answer you're not open to hearing. [ It's also a very diplomatic answer, though she looks at him with a level gaze. ] You're very intelligent, Tony, so I know you won't have a problem with hearing that you're right. It has nothing to do with college. It has to do with you.

Your phone's over there. You can pick it up and leave.

[ Except for the one other thing, about how he's going to have detention every friday after school. ]
