Everyone has nightmares right? The dark thoughts lurking in the depths of our minds. Our fears out of our control. At least they only occur in our sleeping hours... right?

This meme is designed to wretch that comfort right out from under you.

Your character is stuck in their worst nightmare and worse yet, someone is stuck in there with them. Whether it's a familiar face, a stranger, intentional or accidental, you have to dig your way out. Good luck lost souls. And remember. The only thing we have to fear, is fear itself.

Feel free to use the prompts below as a jumping point, or make up whatever you want. As a warning this meme will possibly contain TRIGGERS and MATURE CONTENT. Read ahead with caution.

i. the WEAVER (the nightmare)

001 - waking nightmare - wake up. Wake up. Wake. UP. The only sure guarantee out of a dream. And yet when your eyes open, the fear still surrounds you. The nightmare has its hold. You've woken up to your own nightmare. Why hasn't it gone away?

002 - stuck - Slowly, you begin to realize this is all just a dream. But you can't get out. You're stuck to the whims of your subconscious, unable to escape. Completely aware that this is just a nightmare, but unable to escape.

003 - pursuit - You're being chased, endlessly, by something, someone. Maybe it's a boogey monster, maybe it's only a metaphor. But you're out of breath and places to run.

004 - the end of your world - The apocalypse. Brought about around you. Maybe it came slowly, like a slow burning fire-- or perhaps it was a conflagration. Your entire world is falling apart around you and you can do nothing to stop it. Or perhaps even worse, you're the cause.

005 - your greatest fear - Maybe your greatest fear is something common, like spiders, or something which seems completely mundane, such as the color yellow. Whatever it is, it's surrounding you. Keeping you in it's embrace.

006 - ground hog day - It starts out harmless. One day, not unlike any other. Except, it's repeated over. And over. And over. And over. Until slowly your mind just.... slips away.

007 - i have no mouth and I must scream - slowly, against your will, you're transforming. Turning into a creature unlike yourself. Perhaps a monster, maybe a pile of goo. Whatever it is, you're helpless to stop it.

ii. the THREAD (why the other character is there)

001 - the devil on their chest - Maybe the dreamer was someone in your way, someone who had done harm to you or someone you care about, maybe it’s just for shits and giggles. But you are the one who has stuck them in this nightmare, and you want to watch them fall victim to their own mind.

002 - mind link - for some reason you share a connection with this person. Perhaps it's just the passing of the stars, a jolt of electricity, or their mind reaching for yours. But now you’re stuck here, trying to get them out.

003 - experiment - Just a quick injection, maybe a little sting, it won't hurt. That's what the men in coats said. But look where that got you.

004 - save them - you've been tasked to save this person, no matter the cost. Maybe they're a stranger, maybe they're your closest friend, even your greatest enemy, but you have to save them.

005 - just following orders - It's a job, and you've been tasked to it. They may have some info you need. Or maybe you have to keep them in for the benefit of someone else. It doesn't matter. It's only a job. Right?

006 - we have ways of making you talk - They have something you need. And it's time you squeeze it out of them.

Possible nightmares/preferences: Team members getting hurt/reliving past experiences with being trapped or unable to help
Quick History: Former FBI agent, current Interpol, from a fairly privileged but not so happy family
Quick Personality: Self professed nerd, amazingly loyal and compassionate, tough as nails, snarky

It's dark, darker than it had been in the pictures, darker than it had been when Doyle had been there. The fluorescent bulbs flickered weakly, casting stark shadows across the brick walls of the warehouse. This wasn't where she was supposed to be. This was what Derek did... or Hotch or Rossi. Her place was guiding them not stumbling into the darkness with nothing but the little flashlight she kept in her purse. She was scared, terrified. But that didn't matter. What mattered was that Emily was in trouble.

It was a strange thought to have, maybe. Emily was dead it didn't get any more "in trouble" than that. They'd buried her weeks ago but this place, the pictures of that little boy, all the memories of her dear friend... it haunted her dreams, woke her in the middle of the night crying and too scared to even reach out for Kevin. People got close... and then they left. That was how things worked. Somehow, here in dreams, her mind insisted differently though. If only she were a little braver, a little faster, a little bit more surely she could find Emily, save her, rescue her friend from this.

The beam of her flashlight trembled though and she didn't know what she was more afraid of... Doyle, that hideous man out there in the dark, or not finding Emily in time, losing her all over again. She didn't know where she was going though, didn't know where she was. Her heels clicked ominously on the concrete floor, giving her away even with the small, almost shuffling steps she took. It didn't matter how scared she was though, she'd told Emily they were coming for her and she'd meant it. "E-Emily?"

They wouldn't fail her again.

"EMILY!"

Alone in Paris, and then in Marseilles, and now in a small town whose name Emily didn't fully parse because it didn't matter right now, she didn't expect to sleep well. Every night was filled with pain in her still healing body and in her even more slowly healing mind. Being chased in the dark, alone as she moved from stolen car to public transport to safe house, was just part of the fabric of her life right now.

Hearing her friends calling her, looking for her when she couldn't come out of the dark was the worst part of that dream. If she came out of the dark, they could save her, but if she came out of the dark, she would get them killed. It was the darkness for her, then. That's all there could be.

She wasn't surprised to hear Penelope's voice in the darkness. Garcia was usually the strongest. Over and over she heard those words, the promise on her phone message, until the words became part of her heartbeat. Now, though, unlike that, she heard her name and it cut through her. There was an immediacy to it, a shrill urgency that drove her to answer. "Garcia?"

Masamune Date | Sengoku Basara

Possible nightmares/preferences: Nightmares of losing his eye - or his other eye - would be pretty great. Any kind of dying dream would work best since he comes from the warring states period of Japanese history. Being helpless while his subordinates die around him would work too.
Quick History: Historically accurate young warlord from Japan's Sengoku Period. Lost his eye when he was a kid then eventually led an army to try and rule over Japan. Good times.
Quick Personality: Energetic and near-fearless, Masamune is an optimistic yet cocky punk. He's thoughtful and pretty damn open with those he gets close to, but he has been known to rush into the action without a second through.
Triggers/things you'd like to avoid: Spiders.

Abigail Hobbs | Hannibal

Possible nightmares/preferences: There are a slew of things. Her father holding her at knifepoint/ dying, the girls he made her help kill, Nicholas Boyle's death, burying and digging his body up, the dead girls coming back, Will blaming her, Hannibal turning his back on her, Jack Crawford interrogating her in front of Nicholas' corpse, etc.
Quick History: Daughter of serial killer who was killed in front of her, now living in a psychiatric hospital.
Quick Personality: Not the most stable, but she's a trauma victim trying to handle what happened though she's still very much a teenage girl.
Triggers/things you'd like to avoid: THIS IS MOST LIKELY TO BE VERY TRIGGERING, but I don't have any limits.

Quick History: Just graduated Prowler Pilot training, waiting for her next assignment.
Quick Personality: Quick thinking, generally easy going, but serious when she needs to be. She's the kind of person who'd give her life for someone else if there were no other option.

Arthur Kirkland (England) | Hetalia | OTA

Possible nightmares/preferences: A number of dark periods of English history, deaths of previous and beloved figures, loss of people he cares about, his magic going wrong and hurting his people or some of the other nations.
Quick History: Personification of the UK, there's no such thing as a quick history. Taking him from somewhere between the death of Diana and the millennium.
Quick Personality: Kind of grouchy, gets upset when certain dark points in his past are brought up (American Revolution anyone?), still has a bit of a wicked streak from his days as a pirate under Elizabeth I.
Triggers/things you'd like to avoid: I'd like to avoid too much blood but otherwise pretty open. Oh, no spiders please.

Possible nightmares/preferences: Trapped underground in a vampire seethe, attacked and nearly killed by a demon in human form, teenage loss of home/foster parents/boyfriend
Quick History: Mechanic who shifts into a coyote, grew up with and now lives near werewolves, keeps getting dragged into dangerous situations as she attempts to help her friends/pay off favors
Quick Personality: Smart, caring, trouble always seems to find her, a bit snarky at times, knows how to play the werewolf dominance games and still find a way to get her own way.

Possible nightmares/preferences: A burning and crumbling field of flowers, the deaths of the other pilots because of his own failures, the blame of his clansmen for failing to protect them
Quick History: Space colonist/guerrilla soldier who fought against a would be militaristic government after the loss of his wife, losing the rest of his clan in the self destruction of his colony.
Quick Personality: An odd combination of nerdy scholar and hot tempered warrior, he holds the guilt of those he's failed to protect and strives to keep his wife's ideals of justice strong.
Triggers/things you'd like to avoid: None

Captain Cold | DC Comics New 52

Possible nightmares/preferences: Uhh his terrible childhood with his abusive father, the fact that he's pretty much failed at everything in life and he also royally fucked over his team on accident trying to get them on even par with the Flash
Quick History: He is Captain Cold, one of the Flash's Rogues.In nU, Cold got the bright idea that he and the other Rogues should try splicing their genes so they could get meta powers much like the Flash and put them on equal footing. It backfired spectacularly and he's been at odds with his sister and the Rogues thanks to them justifiably blaming him.
Quick Personality: As a general rule, he personifies his codename. He's a cold bastard and makes no apologies for it. But Len lives by a code and he enforces it without pity or remorse. The only true weak spot he has is for his little sister Lisa who pretty much hates his guts.
Triggers/things you'd like to avoid: None come to mind save for maybe no non-con. He's done some pretty shady things in his day.

Possible nightmares/preferences: Charlotte is terrified of failure, of losing her dumb boy partner Jonathan, and of losing the battle against Dracula. A nightmare for her would be her would probably reflect that. Maybe a spell went wrong, maybe a battle was lost, maybe she or a loved one are contracting some monstrousness all on their own. Dracula's resurrection is the ultimate Bad End.
Quick History: Charlotte is the latest in a long line of monster hunters. The Aulins are a branch of the Belnades family, best known for aiding the vampire slayers in the Belmont line. She's a powerful sorceress, but still only a teenager and needs a spellbook on-hand to effectively perform any magic.
Quick Personality: Seriousminded and organized, Charlotte is perhaps a little too uptight for her own good. She's here to fight monsters and everything else is just a distraction.

Eliot (Spencer) Ford | Leverage (teen AU)

Possible nightmares/preferences: reliving his time with Moreau and his stepfather, his victims, his adopted parents not wanting him anymore, someone hurting his new family because of him
Quick History: His mother left him and his stepfather when he was ten which led to his stepfather drinking heavily. Eliot bore the brunt of his anger until he ran away at fourteen into the clutches of Damien Moreau, a local criminal mastermind. Damien manipulated Eliot into working as his enforcer for the next two years. Eventually, the FBI caught onto Eliot. He cooperated with their investigation of Moreau in exchange for being tried as a juvenile. After the trial, Eliot was adopted by Nate Ford and Sophie Devareaux and has been slowly adjusting back to normal life.
Quick Personality: He pretends to be tough and untouchable but he's actually a sensitive, damaged kid. He's significantly more intelligent than he lets on, preferring to act like the dumb muscle unless there's a danger no one's responding to. He's very protective of girls and younger kids.

John Harrison: Star Trek Reboot

Possible nightmares/preferences: Stuff with bodily restriction/paralysis. Vulnerability and anxiety dreams rather than fighting. Revenge dreams of the mass number of deaths he's seen and potentially caused.

Quick History: Centuries spent in cryo sleep, anxiety over his duty towards others and potential failure meaning their death.

Quick Personality: Evil, manipulative, fiercely loyal to his own and his ideals, mistrustful.

Quick Personality: Solemn, quiet, anti-social. Loyal, business-oriented, tough, doesn't like time-wasters. tends to bottle things up inside.

Possible nightmares/preferences: Promp 004 - Sin has triumphed, ripping Spira apart. The loss of family and friends and inability to protect them.
Quick History: An agile thief, a guardian on the High Summoner's Pilgrimage to bring the Calm and purge Spira of Sin, an evil destructive entity.
Quick Personality: Loud mouthed and hyperactive. A well intentioned chatterbox, with a default positive outlook.
Triggers/things you'd like to avoid: It's a dark storyline, think most things should be fine.

Zane ➢ Mistborn ➢ OTA

Possible nightmares/preferences: Being used as a tool or weapon, reduced to an object, completely subsumed to another's control.
Quick History: Illegitimate son of a nobleman who wanted an army of people with exceptional abilities in Allomancy and so bred as many women as he could, willing or not, to make this happen. Zane was the most powerful of all of them.
Quick Personality: Unstable, violent, insane. Trigger warnings for self-harm, abuse, the fact that he has a spike through his heart permanently.
Triggers/things you'd like to avoid: If smut: scat/watersports are a no, and outright non-con is also a no. Dub-con is fine.

Jack | Bioshock | oh my god i just can't stop typing ahhh

Possible nightmares/preferences: Anything from plane crashes to flooding to mind control to crazy people wanting to tear him apart to crazy people making people into art, and not just plastic surgery. Also stuff about being grown in a lab. Fears include getting mind controlled - doing something and not being able to stop himself, mutating into a deformed crazy monster, harvesting little sisters, and becoming the kind of horrible person he could be. I am down with exploring any combination of these or more. He's been through Some Shit.
Quick History: Right, uh.
Short version, Jack was grown in a lab in a city underwater and given fake memories and sent up to the surface to come back a few years later to kill the shit out of a bunch of things but especially one guy who incidentally is his father though neither of them figure it out until the endgame. Also he has mind control to ensure he'd do all that, including a killword for when the job was done and in case 'Would You Kindly kill yourself' didn't work.
Quick Personality: Low patience for monologues and preachiness. Really really wants to get out of Rapture and go home. Kind of mad at everything in Rapture and everyone who's wronged him. Or inconvenienced him, y'know how it gets when you've had a long, rough day. Tries to at least be friendly with, uh, sane people who are not manipulating him. Tries to make light of his whole crazy situation, but they turn into more shots at himself which don't really help at all.
