[ the rest of the school year is dull in comparison to the dramatic fiasco that followed her sweet sixteen birthday and the last lacrosse game of the season. they go to state and lose the second game, but its double elimination and they take third. it's disappointing to the entire school and a funk hangs over the entire educational facility that even manages to suppress most of the "prama" (prom drama). but that doesn't matter because they're sophomores and don't get to go to prom unless asked by an upperclassman. and yeah, she's asked, but rejects the first two with such cold calculation that no one bothers to ask again. lydia hasn't the best track record with school dances after the winter formal, and is more than happy to sit at home in her pj's and watch moulin rouge.

it's a good choice in the end. sarah bradbury apparently got in martin rubinstein's pants when he was supposed to be going with laura james, so laura and sarah had gotten into a fight at the after party and laura had crashed her car on the way home because everyone'd gotten too drunk. there were a million stories similar to that one. it was like all the upperclassmen had forgotten that they had another month and a half to be stuck with the people they made complete fools of themselves around. but then they forget about it and have graduation to worry about.

and with graduation comes graduation parties.

and with graduation parties come summer vacation parties.

lydia's birthday had gotten mixed reviews. some people claimed she had the best punch in all of beacon hills and asked what her secret had been. she didn't tell, and the rumors of drugs and alcohol flew, but while a minority of the school side eyes the crap out of her still, the majority still wants to drink with her again. so when she plans her summer bash, she doesn't have much of a problem getting guests. yes, she's the crazy girl, yes she's known for wandering around naked in the woods, and yes, people are cruel behind her back, but it's all blurred into the boring droll of school gossip, and people are crueler about jackson's "death" on the lacrosse field than her fugue state. the invitations go out in a timely manner, typed neatly and slipped into the slits of beacon high's blue metal lockers. 3/4 of the sophomore class is invited, and all informally except for the handful of invitations she hands out personally.

first is jackson's. but he's retreated into himself and his parents are talking about moving because of all the nasty rumors flying about. allison gets one hand delivered. danny. it takes her a while to work up the resolve, but scott and stiles each gets one, too. which in the end leaves the other werewolves. which aren't so special anymore, because lycanthropy is so last week. but she remembers when they all stood outside of mccall's house with the intent to kill her, cut her in half or something equally brutal. she remembers how scared she was, and how hard it had been to breath, how dangerous wolves and big dogs had become scary (though that was more thanks to peter hale, and he was certainly not invited) and she'd lost her taste for rock candy.

but her resolve is steeled, and in time - by 3:05 on thursday - she has him cornered by the bike rack and is holding up a pink envelope like a knife she means to cut him with if he is not civil. ]
