the picture prompt meme.

the picture prompt meme

  1. Comment with your character.
  2. Others will leave a picture (or two, or three...)
  3. Reply to them with a setting based on the picture.
  4. Be aware that this meme will likely be image-heavy and may contain NSFW images. That's kind of the point.

[ In this moment, it feels as if she is dying. She lays bleeding atop the wreckage after the riot, her golden hair spattered with blood, her marble cheeks, her white shirt - all bloodied. Even in what she thinks are her last minutes on earth, she tries to lift herself up to find her friends - but her arms are too heavy and her head feels like lead.

The city has fallen silent (she cannot hear the sounds of the ambulance, nor can she hear the sounds of paramedics rushing to the scene) and Victorine closes her eyes, seeing a faint image of two figures, an afterimage against her eyelids.

[To Marianne, they are all her children. Children she does care for, but she cannot reach to them until it's too late, until she has to say the final goodbye to their souls. Most of them never realise who she is, but she's always there to embrace them, her children, and tell them that their life had been good. That their sacrifice had not been in vain.

And it is the time to say goodbye to the most perfect soul she has had the pleasure of knowing.

She's not noticed by the paramedics because she is something akin to a spirit, never corporeal until... How could one say it? Until it's too late.
So the woman clad in a white tunic approaches Victorine and holds her hand.]

It is the time, Victorine.

[ She opens her eyes and sees one of the women in her vision, or at least she thinks she sees the same woman. But as soon as she comes to - there is a moment of clarity. Instantly, she knows who this woman is and why she is here.

And she, the marble lover of liberty and of France, the stony-faced leader, covers her mouth and holds her breath to keep her tears at bay.
]

Have I failed you?

[And Marianne touches the girl's cheek. Both her expression and her touch are warm and reassuring. Like a mother's should be.]

You have never failed me, my dearest.

[ Victorine releases Marianne's hand once she is on her feet and does not pull away from the show of affection. Instead, she lowers her gaze and bows her head graciously. ]

I only wanted to do what was right.

[And she smiles, all warmth.]

And you did it, which is more than what many can claim. You did what was right until the very end, and I'm proud of you.

[ That brings more comfort than she anticipated and she closes her eyes, wondering if it will still be real when she reopens them. There is no fear in her expression or demeanor, but she does furrow her brow. ]

What of the people?

Some will hide, but others will fight for what it's right. And little by little, those who hid at first will join them and fight for what's right.
And someday they'll win [This being said with a rather wistful tone]

I will be their stepping stone.

[ It is something she has said time and time again but she looks to Patria for confirmation, earnest and open-faced. ]
la_marianne: (Serieuse)

[personal profile] la_marianne 2013-05-21 03:04 pm (UTC)(link)
[And that confirmation comes with a nod]
You are their stepping stone already. Even if you can't see it, I feel it.

[ Victorine's heart had never been stone. It beat furiously for her country and for her friends and for the people, but in that instant, it feels full. Tears linger among her blonde eyelashes and she tips her head back to keep them at bay still. ]

Then, I am truly gone, now.

[It pains her to admit it. It always does, but even more this time that her most perfect citoyenne was the one. But it was the truth, even though her lips tremble slightly when she finally speaks.]
You are, Victorine.
[A moment of silence]
But this is not the end. Neither for them, nor for you. There's a long way for the rest of my citoyens and citoyennes, full of battles until their triumph. And as for you...
[She cups both of Victorine's cheeks]
I could tell you many things, my dearest. But you've gone through so much already, you've sacrificed so much...

Of course. I had said that the people will take our places until the ideal state has been achieved.

[ It isn't a question that has plagued Victorine but since she is here, she may as well ask: ]

Would you tell me - Where do I go from here?
la_marianne: (Tender/Taking care)

[personal profile] la_marianne 2013-05-22 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I will. In fact...
[she offers her her hand]
I will be the one to guide you there, if you want me to.

[ Without hesitation, she takes her hand and holds her head high, shoulders level, though inside the storm continues. Perhaps it is more subdued now that she has passed. ]

Please. It would be an honor, my lady.
