the 'now you've done it' meme;
Oooooh, you're in troooouuuuuble.
RULES:
o1. Put down your characters ( name | series | any preferences ).
o2. The people responding can pick, or beg the rng gods for a prompt.
o3. What luck*! The character tagging in is in the process of, or has just finished subjecting the tagged one to one (or more?) of the following questionable activities!
So maybe you've...
o1. ALLIED: whether it's a long-deliberated diplomatic call, or just the desperate measure of very desperate times, the olive branch is out.
o2. APPRENTICED: love'em or hate'em, they've got something only they can teach, so suck it up and brush up on your "please," "thank you"s and "Master"s.
o3. BETRAYED / CONSPIRED: whether to benefit a loved one, mankind, or your wallet, your knife's met this person's back.
o4. CORRUPTED: you accidentally introduced them to your ways, or carefully planned for each step down the slippery slope - but there's no going back now.
o5. DEFEATED: sex, drugs and rock'n'roll got to their heads, or maybe you just really hated their mugs. Either way, they had to be taken down a peg or ten.
o6. DEPRIVED THEM OF THEIR POWER/SKILL: the world is not yet ready for their ability. This talent is too much for one person to bear. You just don't trust them with it. Whether permanently or just for a day or two, you're taking this person's toys away.
o7. DEFENDED: polish up your white armour, and you go on and protect that honour, whether it really needs defending or not.
o8. DROVE THEM OUT: by way of eviction, exile, or estrangement, this person is hereby denied your glorious presence.
o9. HEALED: licensed professional? TLC practitioner? Be it physical, or emotional, you've got some damage to patch up. Please check with the other player to make sure they're all right with the nature of the suffering you'd like to assume their character's taken!
10. INSULTED: misunderstandings, verbal duels, or jokes taken too far - but baby, that burned.
11. PROPOSITIONED: unintentional innuendo? Another Indecent Proposal? The premise of a heated reply, or an outburst of indignation? Whatever the circumstance, just remember to film it.
12. RESCUED: your name's not Luke Skywalker, but be it an active menace, or an embarrassing social circumstance, you know what you've got to do.
13. SURRENDERED: Game over. They've won.
14. USED: it's not 'manipulative' if it doesn't hurt them, right? Or if you're almost sure they would have done it anyway? Or if you know deep down they wanted to? Or if you really, really, really needed them to? Pick your justification, or just admit your inner egotist: it's the same deed getting done.
15. WOUNDED: accidents and murders both happen. Whether superficially, or lethally, you've dealt this person a good deal of harm. Like with #o9, please check that the player is okay with the type and amount of damage involved!
03!
Rush was speaking emphatically into his radio from his position on Destiny's main bridge. He was well aware that in Young's eyes, he'd gone back on his word. But with good reason! Why could no one ever accept that he had motivations beyond simply his own petty need for recognition and respect? He wasn't without concern over the crew - even removing emotions from it, people were needed to see out Destiny's mission.
For gods' sake, he hadn't done anything that had harmed or negatively impacted anyone aboard! All he'd done was lock the general crew out of certain databases, reservoirs of information that had, upon initial discovery, included dire warnings regarding delving any further without something that roughly translated to 'proper evolutionary preparation'. What else Rush had been able to read without much time had sounded downright Lovecraftian at first glance, as far as warnings against accessing knowledge.
And it wasn't as though he was keeping whatever was hidden in Destiny's systems to himself. Nor had he been intending to keep it a secret, it was simply that Eli had discovered the tampering and run straight to Young before Rush had managed to prepare himself to deal with the colonel himself. He would have told him. Perhaps after a bit more investigation, but he had every intent of sharing what he'd found with Young.
Granted, Rush had made promises to the effect of not simply doing things without alerting the colonel. As well as assurances of not keeping anything to himself any longer, but this was different. And if Eli had only taken a moment to simply ask why he had locked those particular parts of the ship's memory from access...
"All I've done is take precautions. If you would simply let me explain myself..."
no subject
Young sounds angry. He's not the type to holler and yell, but you can hear the anger in his voice. He doesn't ask for much. He knows they can't do anything without Rush, but he at least expects to be kept in the loop before things take a drastic turn south.
"You will explain yourself, Rush, but not over the radio. I'm coming up there, and you'd better hope to God I don't find you sitting at any consoles."
Rush was going to be the death of him. He's constantly sulking aaround Destiny's mainframe, and, if it wasn't for Eli, Young wouldn't have a clue. But Eli, Genius though he may be, is no match for Rush's experience. How many stuff has he got his hands on without Eli noticing? How much is he actually hiding?
Young hates that feeling. Of not being able to trust someone. He'd love to be able to just let Rush get on with it, but...
...Well, he doesn't make it easier for him.
no subject
He had assumed that he had earned at least some of Young's trust at this point - if nothing else than the trust that what he does, he does for the good of the crew and their mission. He supposes that if Eli hadn't gone sniffing about and running to the colonel, there would have been no issue when he himself approached Young. As he's been planning to do, later in the day.
Now he's unprepared and prickly, hating the reminder that he has to answer to the man. As though he were one of Young's little pet soldiers rather than the head of the damned ninth chevron program, or the only man who fully understood Destiny. By all rights he shouldn't have to answer to the man. By all rights...
He takes a deep breath and tries not to let his mind go down this path again. All he can do is wait for Young and hope the man is in something of a reasonable mood.

In fact the kid even said as much. And, frankly, Young trusts Eli much more than he trusts Rush at this point. And that still doesn't sit right with him. He should be trusting Rush more than some still-wet-behind-the-ears, for all intents and purposes, kid.
Still, he walks onto the bridge of Destiny, his tired eyes locking onto Rush. He takes a few steps forward, before standing at ease, his arms folded.
"Okay. Explain." He says, quietly, tiredly. Eli had woken him up with this, so that may explain the initial burst of irritation.
no subject
It's ridiculous, to be an esteemed scientist in his early fifties and yet be treated like a delinquent secondary student. And god knows he and Young have been around this carousel too many times already.
"All I've done is temporarily lock out non-essential information that may well be highly dangerous." Brevity was the soul of wit, and Rush figures Young will appreciate a succinct explanation to the usual careful dance they engage in. The colonel clearly doesn't want to be here, has no pleasure at being roused in the longest hours of the night to deal with him.
"I was planning on telling you in the morning, but Eli...jumped the gun, so to speak. But as you're up now..." He gestures for Young to sit, for them to discuss this as though they are equals.
no subject
The last thing he wanted was to be woken up by Eli panicking over something he found.
As he walks towards the chair, he gives Rush a look. Slightly skeptical, but still... "Next time," he begins, before clearing his throat. "I'd appreciate it if you woke me first, or told someone. Volker, Scott, Eli... anyone." It's not an order, at least, not one directly.
He can be civil, too. Rush seems to be. Everett shoves the suspicions back out of his mind.
"That way we can avoid you telling me things when..." he pauses to stifle a yawn, his point made.
no subject
"Nor did I feel the need to tell anyone else before I'd spoken with you. You see I was attempting to avoid needless panic and concern, at attempt that has clearly failed."
Though he supposes he could have told Scott. The boy has a decent head on his shoulders and has, on more than one occasion, given Rush the benefit of the doubt. But hindsight and all of that, it hardly matters now.
"But I apologize that Eli overreacted. If he'd simply asked me..." Because there's always someone else to at least share the blame. And he does feel this is Eli's fault.
no subject
Of course, Everett means more to that first part, but if Rush is smart, he won't call Young on it, just to get the man out of his hair quicker. Young, of course, solely blames Rush for this.
"Let's get this over with. What have you found?"
no subject
"I'm not sure," he admits, raking back his hair. "I didn't delve too deeply before locking the indicated files. I believe it to be containing highly advanced..knowledge or information of some sort. There were more warnings than I've ever seen, indications that whatever is contained within the memory banks is nothing to be learned lightly. Or perhaps at all, by humankind. What I was able to translate indicated a need for evolutionary advancement to safely interact with the files in question."
He turned to the console, hand hovering over it as he raised his eyebrows to Young for permission to bring up the display.
no subject
Still, he listens to what Rush has to say, patiently, frown deepening as the full extent of what he's found sinks in.
"Maybe we should leave it locked for now." Young says, after a long pause, considering what they should do. "If there's the Ancient equivalent of a No Entry sign all over this, we shouldn't look at it."
He looks at Rush. "Agreed?"
no subject
"And you are welcome to input your own security codes, to make certain."
He is willing to play nice, to try and do as they had discussed. Work together. As difficult as it is for him, he knows if nothing else it will make things easier on him.
no subject
Rush is a lot of work, anything that reduces that is welcome. Though he can't help but be suspicious.
"No. I trust you." As much as those words are foreign coming out of his mouth. "But do me a favour. I don't mind you locking stuff like this out, but tell someone? Eli, Scott... someone who can spread the word. You don't have to wake me, but just to avoid the panic."
A pause. "And I'll have a word with Eli about the chain of command."
no subject
He does his best not to grind his teeth at another reminder that he should have told someone. What part of 'I was going to first thing in the morning' is so difficult to comprehend?
"Yes, yes, I'll speak to Lieutenant Scott if this occurs again." Not Eli. Not after this. Though it inwardly pleases him that Young may go so far as to take him to task. Whatever fondness Rush holds for Eli, it's often overshadowed by simple jealousy.
"Though I hardly see why the whole crew has to be made aware of things that don't concern them in the least."
no subject
He manages to hold off his irritation, looking back to the Scotsman and continuing levelly. "Not the whole ship, just one person, Doctor."
He shifts in his chair. "Anything else while you've got me?"
no subject
It's gone better than he expected, Rush would like to finish up with on what can be considered a positive note. They're both biting their tongues, and he knows that he, at least, can only do so for so long. But there's always something.
"Since you're already here, if you don't mind waiting ten or so minutes, the routine scans will be finished. If anything comes up, you needn't wait to be informed."
Ten or so more minutes should be manageable.
no subject
Young will just relax back in the chair. He's perfectly content to sit this ten minutes out in silence, knowing fine well that Rush's trigger is hair-thin. He really would rather avoid any fuss this early in the morning.
Fuss is inevitable, but he wants to postpone it.
