Your character has stumbled upon this magical mirror. Perhaps they were poking around in a basement, or a mystical forest, or maybe they were out somewhere entirely different. Whatever the case may be, they are now entrapped by whatever the mirror has chosen to show them.

Another person comes along and is free, now, to do what they wish. Perhaps they get caught into their own desires or get a peek into your character's heart.

Really it's up to you. And whatever your heart desires

[He sees himself on the throne of Erebor. He is king. The company of dwarves and Bilbo standing in front of him, merry making. They have beaten the dragon. He sees dwarves, men, elves all together in a time of peace. No sign of Smaug. Only joy and happiness around him. This is what his heart truly wants, whether he believes it or not.

He sighed as he closed his eyes then opened them again. The image was still there reflecting on the glass.]

[He noted the mirror and the dwarf, for the moment not thinking much of it until he came back by some time later to see that Thorin had yet to move from the mirror.

Walking up to stand behind the dwarven prince, he merely gives the mirror a casual glance before focusing his attention on Thorin.]

You realize that standing here staring is getting you no closer to that.

[Thorin was wrenched from his thoughts and the images in front of him by that voice. Gandalf. He spoke softly, not looking around.]

One day these images will become a reality. I intend to prove that to you and not give into hopelessness. [His voice bristled with annoyance as he was disturbed from his magical dream.]

You have no business to disturb me from my thoughts, wizard. [Injured pride? Slightly.]

Indeed they may become a reality, I am not doubting that. But idling here does nothing for you but perhaps fill you with melancholy.

[He straightens up and looks down on the dwarf before him.]

Do I not? Perhaps then I have no business in accompanying you on this task of yours since your attention appears to no longer be on readying for it.

That is not what I meant. [Damn it, Gandalf. Why do you have to speak in riddles all the time? Have a slight glare from this dwarf.]

We require your aid on our quest and I was not mistaking that. I did not know that such a mirror could produce effects such as this. Is it witchcraft? [Yes, he was looking at you now, Gandalf.]

[Gandalf now turned his attention from the dwarf before him to rest on the mirror itself, though his eyes rested on its frame and not its glass. Making note of the letters, he silently attempted to wrestle some meaning from them, though at first he found none as the words the letters made up resembled no language he knew.

Excuse the extended silence, Thorin, he's still trying to figure this thing out.]

[Thorin will now be watching you do your wizarding magic, Gandalf. You're supposed to be old and wise, right? Then, you should be able to figure out a magic mirror.]

Well?

[You do not rush the wise, Thorin. The same goes for Wizards. Gandalf ignores the question for now, still wrestling with the words. It wasn't until he'd taken a different approach to solving the riddle of them that he finally made some sense of them.]

I show not your face but your heart's desire.

[The words were spoken quietly, half to himself.]

I do not know where this mirror comes from, nor whom made it. But I need not know those things to realize it is dangerous not only to you, but to most of those whom might stop to look into its glass.

Dangerous? [He almost scoffed. How was looking into a mirror dangerous? It just showed what he most wanted, that was all. Was Gandalf just being over cautious?]

In what way is it dangerous?

[Have a dead serious look directed at you Thorin.]

How long would you have tarried here, staring at what you desired? There are likely some which might be caught by what this mirror shows them and would refuse to leave it, thus wasting their lives away pining for what they desire.

I am not one of those easily swayed by illusions and magic. Tis just a glimpse of may or may not be. [He gave a look that showed how irritable he was that Gandalf was judging him.]

Wasting my life is something that I do not intend to do. Nay, I will fight Smaug and reclaim Erebor for it's people. Mirror or no mirror.
