[ shijima's definitely never been the festive type, and this christmas, it's no different. under the tree they've put up, shijima is curled up, listening sullenly to the soft music and thinking about leaving. too bad there aren't enough people here for her to not be missed if she did slip out. ]

[It wasn't as if Gau didn't notice her come in- after all, he was one to take careful inventory of the house, and guests were no exception- but he figured that Shijima was perfectly happy on her own, and he didn't feel obligated to greet her with the sting of Raikou's last fight with her still biting him.

But still, it was the holidays, and it was the season to let bygones be bygones, right? At least for the time being, and he had to keep up a jovial atmosphere for Raikou. He approached Shijima, wearing a Christmas-patterned cardigan that surely matched Raikou's, and stared at her for a moment before speaking. He wouldn't comment on the rudeness of sleeping at a party just yet.]

Kurookano-san... Happy holidays.

[ good god, those cardigans are hideous. or at least, that's what she thought when she first saw them. now she's more interested in pressing her fingertips together and thinking sleepily about stepping out somehow.

but here's the scrawny one (one of several, including herself, if she's being honest), trying to talk to her. ah.

she rolls over, if only halfway, and stares up at him. ]

I don't know what that has to do with anything!! And I don't think you're one to talk either! [It was just a second too quick to be anything but defensive, and his balled fists certainly said as much.

Still, holidays- merry and jolly. Right. Everything must remain happy, and this was in the way of that!]

Besides, you shouldn't be sleeping at a party! It's very rude to Seki-san, who has kindly provided her house for it! Please, try to fit into the situation!

[ her eyelids lower, almost disdainful, and she sits up without bothering to shake out her hair. ]

Seki-chan is kind, yes. But, see — she hasn't asked me to fit in.

That's no reason to act as you are! [Putting his hands on his hips, he leans down to about Shijima's level, glowering all the way.]

Raikou-san is having a good time at this party! I don't want his mood to be interrupted by you! [Aaaand there's the real reason he cares so much. Lingering protectiveness, perhaps.]

[ there's still a ways to lean, kid. shijima looks up at him through her eyelashes, all thick disdain and quiet irritation. ]

Raikou-san, Raikou-san... aren't you the one being annoying now? I didn't cause such a fuss, at least.

[ shijima, being the bitter old thing she is, snaps back (with uncertain effectiveness), and draws her knees up to her chest so she looks like a little tent of white hair and frilly dress. ]

Why don't you go and have your own good time?

Annoying?! [How could worrying about Raikou-san be annoying? He seems offended at the very thought!

...Even if she was right. Now he was the one being unmerry, and he couldn't act in such a manner around Raikou!

He leans down further, to try to break through that mop of hair with a hard stare.]

[ now, she scowls, if only slightly. her bangs swing as she abruptly tosses her head and gets to her feet. ]

[ her frown turns into a smile then, sharp and a little mocking. ]

Don't you think you ought to look around? If you've nothing better to do than scold me, I might worry about you.
