Hurt/Comfort - Hurt/comfort is a fan fiction genre that involves the physical pain or emotional distress of one character, who is cared for by another character. The injury, sickness or other kind of hurt allows an exploration of the characters and their relationship.

1. INJURY. You've been injured. Broken bones or bleeding out or maybe just a tiny little papercut. The choice is yours.
2. SICKNESS. You're sick and laid up in bed, at home or in a hospital. The severity is up to you.
3. FEAR/ANXIETY. Something is happening and you're scared beyond belief.
4. LOSS OF SENSES. Sight, touch, taste, hearing, smell, etc. You've lost some important sense or ability and now you're left to deal with it.
5. DESPAIR. Nothing is good or right anymore and you can't shake the depression. Maybe that friend of yours can help though...
6. BREAKUP. You've been dumped. You need someone to comfort you, possibly by the one who dumped you.
7. MAKE UP. Fight or break up, it's time to makeup.
8. RESCUED. You've just been held captive and/or tortured for however long and finally, someone has come to the rescue.
9. BAD ROMANCE. Fight, cheated on, abused, whatever the case is, someone else can clearly see you need comfort from someone who isn't your terrible lover tonight.
10. LOSS. You've experience a loss of some kind and need help getting through it.
11. INSANITY. You're seeing things that aren't really there, hearing voices, or you're just convinced you're at your wit's end finally and you're going to crack. Maybe someone can give you a helping hand.
12. TIRED. You've had a heard life recently and you're just worn too thin to really care anymore. There's no fight left in you anymore. Can someone help change your mind?
13. ADDICTION. Drugs, alcohol, sex, gambling, or any other type of addiction has got you in its grasp. First time or relapse. Will someone be able to save you?
14. INSOMNIA. You can't sleep anymore, no matter how hard you try. Maybe someone can give you company.
15. NIGHTMARES. Or, on the other end of the spectrum, you can't sleep without gruesome, horrible nightmares. Either someone is stuck in your dream with you, witnessing it or they're just waking you up, soothing you out of it.
16. BLACKMAIL. You've been caught doing something you shouldn't and you were blackmailed because of it
17. SEPARATION. You're going to be separated for awhile or were separated for a long time. Either make up for lost time or try to spend every last moment together.
18. VIOLATED. You've been violated in some way. Can include sexual overtones or not. Can someone help you through it?
19. STRANDED. You've been stranded somewhere remote, with no help of anyone finding you for awhile. Can you survive this together?
20. SINS. You're feeling the weight of your sins and guilt clearer than ever. Can someone give you absolution or lessen the ache any?
21. SECRET. It's difficult having to keep that secret of yours, be it a relationship or something you just don't want to share with anybody else. Maybe it's okay to talk about it now though...
22. ADDITION. Babies should be joyous things unless you're in a situation where you know you won't be able to care for them. Either you've adopted or found out you're pregnant.

[Jack didn't exactly need sleep the way mortals did. He often spent many nights in a row rushing across great expanses, trailing cold night winds and morning frosts, but some nights he would curl up, cradling his shepherd's hook in his arms, with his legs wrapped around it protectively as if he was afraid someone might steal it in his sleep.

Sometimes when he did sleep, he would wake long before morning, gasping for air and reaching out, desperately trying to grab onto something. Those nights weighed on him more and seemed to make him more drawn and tired than any number of real sleepless nights could.]

[ Hiei wasn't usually the type that allowed himself to sleep deeply, unless it was to recover from using the Black Dragon - but that was beyond sleep. Vigilance was often his scapegoat for why he didn't really sleep deeply, normally, and tended to nap at all hours of the day, generally sitting up and ready to spring. In the demon world that would be more than true, but when he was in the human world, without anything to fear or worry over, he was still as 'vigilant' as ever. Whether he was napping or had been ushered to a room to 'sleep' he was found more often than not in a windowsill instead of the bed roll, awake before anyone woke up to make breakfast and probably already done training.

'Vigilance' was not allowing himself to slip in to a deep enough sleep where he might become even more vulnerable than usual.

Tonight, though, he was extraordinarily tired, probably from running all the way from the Makai to the human world today, no naps and only breaks to eat. With the Jagan constantly sucking his energy those little cat naps helped to level out his energy levels, and when he'd been ushered to his bed roll... it had looked more appealing than usual.

Though at the moment his hand is gripping the same bed roll he'd gratefully crumpled in to in a near death grip, teeth gritting and the occasional grunt or moan of pain, the muttering of words under his breath mars the usual silence of the night, probably loud enough to at least seep in to the rooms nearby. ]

[Long has Morrigan traveled the world and discovered new and untold things. The Eluvian was only the first step; the child the second. She has gone through much in her few years since the Warden left her company and, unfortunately, has met many people in her journeys.

The daughter of a ruined king is such a one. She pleads for assistance to aid her kingdom and Morrigan has been loathe to offer it. But she has consented to travel with Elika for a time, to discover magic and power beyond that of Thedas - and her mother - so that she may use it for her own disposal.

This is not the first time Morrigan has been awakened by Elika's tossing and turning, her whimpers. She stands from the fire and goes to her, nudging her with her staff.]

It was rare for there to be more than one person in his home. Ever since Saya left on a journey of her own six months ago, most of the rooms stood empty and silent. A thin layer of dust gathered on the furniture he didn't often use, giving the manor an eerie, haunted atmosphere. It may have been because of that, but Aether soon found that every little sound and motion in the house caught his attention. Be it a creaking floorboard, a bird landing on the windowsill or a mouse skittering along the wall, every sign of life seemed to register in his senses.

Which was why suddenly having a housemate proved to be something of an ordeal.

He met her three weeks ago, if he remembered right. A young woman who reeked of Darkness, yet kept the Light close to her heart. She was a traveler like him, though he had no doubt that they were looking for different things. And whatever she lived through before meeting him, he believed by now that it was something nobody on this side of the Ocean Between was meant to experience.

It was her footsteps that awoke him again this night. Although he tried to keep his distance and give her some space, he learned by now that her past experiences have left a mark or two on her peace of mind. It was not unusual for the sounds of her presence to fill the usually empty hallways at midnight, something he normally tried to ignore. Tonight, however, he was up late and when he heard her pass by his door to his bedroom, he couldn't restrain himself.

He slipped out of the door and, soundlessly as always, followed the slender figure through the moonlit shadows.

Sure enough, she stopped in front of the large window that revealed the moonlit streets outside. Aether hesitated for a moment, still wondering if he should leave and let her exhaustion eventually prevail over whatever kept her from sleeping, only to remind himself that such an approach had yet to work. If her restlessness persisted for three weeks now, there was no point in hoping it would change on its own.

"Cannot sleep again?" He called out, seemingly unconcerned by the fact that the surrounding shadows mostly hid him out of sight. "You'll turn into an owl if you spend so much time in the moonlight, you know."

Usually it's him who's too fast, speeding through every single day with a vice-like grip on the steering wheel, foot pinned down to the gas pedal and life scrambles and struggles to keep up with him. He never tires, ever, he works on instinct and some kind of inexhaustible fuel that has him jump and run and fight, never stopping - sometimes not even to think.

Except now. He reached the end of the day with a sinking feeling, even if nothing monumental or extraordinary had happened. There was just a weight on him, like life not only caught up to him but actually sped right past, leaving him behind to choke on the dust and dirt, and he felt like nothing but lie in bed and... sleep.

But after a few twists and turns, far too many sighs and too many minutes staring at the shadows dancing in the ceiling, it's when he starts trying to see a pattern to them and pinpoint what song they're dancing to that he decides he can't take this anymore. He's exhausted and every muscle hurts and screams for rest but he jumps out of bed, rubs the palm of his hand against his eyes and drags himself to the corner at the back of the garage where he knows Dutch's usually at - tonight's no different, he knows, because he can hear the music getting louder the closer he gets, and smell the spray paint even from far away.]

[It's been a long time since Katniss has had a good night's sleep. She's used to being outdoors, still, and worrying for her life; or, conversely being so exhausted that she just sleeps like she's dead. It's when she's alone in her room in her new, fancy house (that they gave her for "winning") that she finds it most difficult to sleep without nightmares.

And, she's used to someone-- either Prim or Peeta-- being in the bed with her. But they're both in their separate rooms (or houses, for that matter) and Katniss doesn't want to risk sleep.

So she's walking around her yard in the moonlight, a large sweater wrapped around her to keep her warm, wishing she could go out past the fence.]
