⑸ Detention | For whatever you did (or didn't) do, you now have to serve some time for the school. Have fun with that.

VII + IX - Since when do we play by the rules?
That, of course, didn't mean he had to go inside... ]
screw the rules, we have money. well. pretends anyway
He had always been such a perfect student in the first place -- attentive, hard working, clearly determined to make his mother proud enough in the end; after all she and her former husband had donated enough to the school in the first place. Brushing a hand against the younger man's shoulder. ] Would have figured you'd have a date.
Screw the rules Charles has money!
Are you chaperoning today? [ A glance toward the doors, watching a few stragglers file in and out, ] Or did Miss Johnson invite you? [ It was no secret she had a crush on the professor, through plainly visible awkward flirtations though Charles had never been sure how well they were received. Though, it seemed a common illness among the female staff. ]

Cliche as it is, you could do better than Miss MacTaggert. [ Erik pauses, uncertain if it was in fact the young lady that did stand him up in favor of someone else. He had been keeping an eye on Charles whenever the young man seemed to drop by in favor of conversation or even forgetting the occasional textbook, but such matters of his personal life were better left forgotten. Young adults discussed them with each other, certainly not the teachers that attempted to hold a conversation with him. ]

I'm sorry to hear about your date. [ Though it was nice to know it happened to even older men, though he's a bit surprised considering the 'Oh Mr. Lehnsherr' affliction he suffered through in his English class. So much so it had almost prompted him to pop into the professors office and ask him to use another hallway during fourth period. Though, there was the advantage of her distraction allowing a little leeway wit weekend assignments and things of that ilk. ] I guess prom isn't lucky for everyone, huh? [ He flashes a shy, self-deprecating but amused smile. ]

It's an overrated event, to be honest. My own back in high school was nothing special, aside from my date spilling punch all over my shoes. [ Smiling ruefully, Erik brings the lighter to the cigarette, giving it a light flick as he inhaled the scent of tobacco. ]

For most people probably. [ He nods, glancing back to the double doors where the students had been gathered before the event started and the throngs had piled in. ] I'm sure for some people it's magical. [ His own grin turns a little sly, amused. ] High School true love and fancy dresses, sneaking drinks and romance. For a few people it's probably "magical".

But then again where are my manners? [ Uptight as Erik is from time to time, more so during school hours to ensure the students grew up into the fine outstanding citizens the school demanded from them, it was outside of them that he relaxed. ] Here I am, doing the exact opposite of what I came here for.

Someone's got to watch those of us loitering outside, though, hm? [ He smiles a little, lips brushing the filter as he spoke, though 'those of us' was clearly just Charles as most were inside our outback. It's then he finally takes a drag-- and it's not even the proper sort; inhaling some though most just filled his mouth and tickled his throat. Pulling the smoke away he blew out a little cloud, entertained by it before a light cough surprised him and he muffled it into the back of his hand. Flushing red he offered the smoke back, the back of his hand still pressed to bright red lips. ]

A perfect student like you shouldn’t be this incapable of smoking. [ Bringing his hand back up to his mouth, tucking the cigarette in between his fingers as he blew out another puff. ] Unless you truly are the staff’s favorite.
no subject
I could learn, if I wanted.
no subject
Not when you’re asking to learn about smoking. [ A small exhale as Erik digs into his jacket for another cigarette, fully intent on wasting them as necessary to escape his duty indoors. ] Are you?
no subject
I hadn't asked to learn, I simply said I could. [ Never mind his imperfect puffing on the last cigarette, the basics of what he's said are true. ]
no subject
Could you now? I can offer you another if you're so inclined.

Fishing out the tin of smokes, Erik picked out one, twirling it between his fingers before passing it off to Charles with a smirk. ] Show me.
