⑶ Lunchtime | ... Oh, gross, cafeteria food. Sounds like the prime time for a food fight! Or perhaps you were hoping for something more peaceful?

⑸ Detention | For whatever you did (or didn't) do, you now have to serve some time for the school. Have fun with that.

[Irene frequently texts in class, so her phone is already in her hand and held halfway under the desk. She glances at it, amused, then sends a reply:

Fake ill.]

She's one of the more entertaining things about this place.]

Anything is worth skipping for, really. She doesn't need the notes for this. But she never likes to appear too available.]

Then his second text comes and her eyes widen just slightly. The morgue. She has no interest in playing with dead things, but now she's curious. What could he want in there?

[The biggest fucking eyeroll as she slips her phone back into her purse. Boys. Then she gathers her things and walks to the front of the class to murmur something to the teacher—who blinks rapidly, clearly taken aback by whatever she said, and excuses her—before exiting.

Minutes later she's strolling out into the parking lot, an umbrella slung over her arm by its curved handle.]

Let's go. I have a voice lesson after school, can't be late.

[He's behind the wheel of a car. Whose? Good question. But he seems to know what he's doing.]

[Her raised brows serve double duty as a reaction to the car and his words.]

[She opens the door on the passenger's side and slides in, adjusting the umbrella so it lays flat across her lap. No seatbelt. Quite the little delinquents, aren't they.]

Yes, of the fact that I have plans which supersede joyriding with you.

[Admittedly, that does sound like more fun than practicing her arietta for the umpteenth time. It's not that she's terribly dedicated to her music—that's her parents' dream for her more than her own—but playing the good girl and attending her lessons nets her a fair amount of freedom with respect to the rest of her time. They never suspect a thing when she goes out nights as long as she keeps her grades up and sings like a bird.]

Oh, is that all?

[She studies her nails as if bored already, though her heart is beating faster at the prospect of mischief.]

—What are you planning to do with the corpse, by the way? You said experiments.

I was finishing up a series of experiments on skin pigmentation post mortem, but I think I'd like to start a new one on the comparatively brittle nature of bones exposed to different environmental conditions. If we can get a human hand, that should suffice.

You can wait in the car, if it's too alarming for you.

So this isn't just a one-time thing. You do this a lot.
