Hunker down, it's the big one!
"Shut your fucking mouth," he sang quietly to the baby as he paced the room, child cradled carefully. "Go the fuck to sleep, little baby, unless you want your daddy to weep." He didn't have much rhythm, but that hardly mattered when the soothing quality of the voice was what he was aiming for. Eventually his daughter (it still felt strange to think of this tiny meatsack as being his!) began to subside, and he settled her into the bassinet at the side of the bed. She was still too small to be left in her own room.
Aaron collapsed into bed beside Kay, groaning, albeit with exaggerated care towards silence. "How many more years of this?" he murmured, exhausted to the bone.
I dunno, it's pretty little at the moment.
There were a lot of things in Kay's long, long life that had dropped by the wayside of her memories, things long forgotten, details too trivial to remember. The times she'd been a parent weren't, however, prone to that kind of flippant forgetfulness. Wholly apart from the parts of playing parent that she remembered fondly, years of sleepless nights had a way of burning themselves into one's brain. Among other things. "At least you don't have to play cow," she mumbled, already descending back towards sleep. Grab sleep when the baby does, after all.
Re: I dunno, it's pretty little at the moment.
:O
By the time that morning rolled around, Aaron was not feeling too perky, but at least he wasn't planning on pawning off the little angel on an unsuspecting friend. He was putting on breakfast out of sheer habit and duty, given that Kay was responsible for feeding their daughter. Making decisions was difficult, but luckily, coffee was not a 'yes or no' question, but rather a 'now or after a murderous rampage' one. On went the pot to boil and drip... then on to the fridge to make more difficult life choices. "How's she doing?" he asked over his shoulder. Having a rocking chair in the corner of the kitchen meant that at least Kay could settle in and watch Aaron while he did his thing... but it also meant that the baby got dog slobberings, as Vanar been joyfully greeting them the moment they opened the door. Poor guy, he'd had to be booted out of their room once the kid came along, just in case he didn't get along... but he seemed happy to meet the girl whenever he was allowed to. Valkea, for her part, was sitting next to her food dish with impudent impatience, watching the trio by the rocking chair with some amount of narrow-eyed disdain. Aaron had a feeling that he'd have about three more minutes before she took to twining around his legs to kill him in hopes of more food.
Re: Skip to my loo
Kay had opted for the quick fix of a bathrobe rather than getting fully clad for this early hour, the easy access opening of the front allowing an easier time of things than a shirt might have. By the time she settled into the breastfeeding her eyes were drowsing again, though Aaron's question roused her enough to respond.
She cast a look down at their daughter, feeding. She was lean, as babies went, and long -- she'd inherit her father's height, no doubt. She also had a strong set of lungs on her that had seen a lot of enthusiastic use so far in her short life, but that were thankfully quiet at the moment with the singlemindedness of feeding. She was also never quite still, an active and restless baby, and even now was waving a tiny hand while she fed. "Full of piss and vinegar," she reported back to Aaron, a little grin on her face when she looked up to report as much. For all that the pair of them were exhausted, their daughter was doing fine.
Am nam nam nam!
He soon had a cup of coffee and a plate for Kay, which he propped on the stand out of dog's way but near the chair, and, scooping a big cup and a little cup of respective kibble for the dog and cat, he offered to take the baby from Kay. "Eat up," he told her, settling on a stool nearby as he scraped a jumbled mishmash of meat and eggs and toast into his mouth, the child cradled in one arm.
BLORTCH
Re: BLORTCH
Re: BLORTCH
Still. That didn't mean she couldn't get sarcastic on him. She propped her feet up against the counter, bare and pink, and watched with a look of satisfaction as he gently jostled the baby. "I'll walk the cat, or something."
Oh god, too much blortching!
Re: Oh god, too much blortching!
Baby Boomer averted!
At least he had meant no ill will. The great mutt returned after a jingling escapade and leapt up, paws on Aaron's chest as he shoved the sloppy leash in the blonde's face enthusiastically. By this point, Vanar was just as large as Kay, as the elemental had predicted. His long tail whipped enthusiastically about, the scraggly brush of it inherited from his shepherd side, whacking into Kay's knee as he accosted Aaron with his burning desire to walk. He only subsided when the blonde pushed him to the ground with an imperial noise, and the brief standoff occurred while Aaron waited for the dog to get himself under control.
As though only barely managing it, Vanar sat, though his tail continued to flail enthusiastically. "Still," Aaron demanded, waiting until only the tiniest tail twitch was visible. He leaned in and hooked the dog's collar and immediately Vanar was up, pushing to be out the door immediately.
It took another couple of tries to get the dog to wait by the door, but once Aaron had slipped his shoes on, they were off, leaving Kay some quiet time with Cassie. The only other noise in their house was the cheerful burbling of coffee in the far corner of the room.
..or so you thought.
Cassie was too young still to do a lot of the really charming baby things, like smiling and really laughing, but she'd already started staring at the world with the kind of stunned, bleary amazement that small people had. That in itself was pretty sweet, and when Cassie wasn't screaming to make her wants known or trying to flail herself free of parental arms, she was looking at things. Right now that was the case, and in the quiet house she took satisfaction from watching Cassie watch her.
Not for too long, though. "I recognize that face. Hey! Don't you dare... oh, fine." The straining infant, after all, paid her no mind and Kay was already standing from the rocking chair when the usual foul smell suffused the air.
"You couldn't'a stayed cute and quiet for another few minutes, could you have?" The little girl crowed and waved her arms in blithe reply, apparently proud of her achievement as Kay carted her off to the change table. At least when Aaron came home, it'd be to a nice fresh baby instead of a stinky one!
Stinker sweeper!
"I'm back," he announced, looking around for Kay and finally finding her strolling between rooms with Cassie in her arms. "Miss me?" Of course Kay missed him. Everyone loved him~
Pooper scooper!
Re: Pooper scooper!
Pooper trooper!
She crouched and gave the dog a proper ruffling, getting her face and ears licked with deeply affectionate whines. God, it was so easy to get love from a dog! Kay chortled and pushed the mutt away after a reasonable amount of loving, and stood again, wiping her face on her less-than-clean bathrobe.
Instead she moved around to Aaron's side, looking at the baby he held again. Yeah, the novelty was still there, the mothering hormones were still pumping... well, she'd enjoy it as it lasted. "She came out pretty good, huh." Particularly for the result of a badly-timed broken condom and one hell of a serious discussion or ten.
:I I refuse to participate in these awful subject conversations anymore!
"Hey, settle down in there," Aaron admonished the girl. She was kicking against his arm, squirming more or less into his armpit. He shifted her about, arms bouncing a little to distract and confuse her. "She's kind of nice when she's got her mouth shut," he observed, wondering if he could escape for a quick nap at this point...
Hey, you started them!
