 THE SNOW DAY MEME



Looks like the weather forecast was fight; it's absolutely freezing! Not only that, but your town/city/jamjar/wherever is knee-deep in snow. Schools are shut, roads are backed up for miles and the general quiet chaos of a snow day has taken over.

But forget those negative nellies! Just post a comment with your series name and character name as usual, as well as any other notes you wish to add, then pick a prompt using the RNG and get started!


1. OMG SNOW!!!
Snow is just the BEST THING EVER, RIGHT?! Well, that's what you think and you're determined to have a good time with snowball fights, snowmen, snow forts and every other conceivable kind of snow-related activity with your friends... even if they don't really want to join in.

2. FUCK YOU, SNOW.
Oh god, it's snowing. This just completely ruins your day. Maybe you were planning to go shopping but the roads are still blocked up, or because the school closed, you need to hire a last minute babysitter for your kids. Whatever the reason for it, you're not pleased about this snow and you don't care what anyone else thinks.

3. SNOW SIEGE
Oh lord, it looks like you're stuck inside. With the amount of snow at your door, you can't open it! Will you make a daring escape out the window or will you just give up and watch TV? But what if you run out of snacks? Or the TV reception dies?!

4. BUSINESS BEFORE PLEASURE
With all this snow around, people's drives and lawns are completely blocked up. Why not take the opportunity to make a quick buck and clean their front gardens for them? If you team up with your friends, you can become a snow-clearing machine and make massive profits!

5. A WALK IN THE SNOW
Nothing like the sound of freshly fallen snow crunching away under your shoes, right? You don't really care either way about the chaos and even though it's chilly, the one thing you want to do today is head out for a walk in the snow and maybe grab a hot chocolate on the way back.

( snowy days like this are nostalgic.

he can't say why, really - he always enjoyed them while growing up, playing with ada and gil and even uncle oscar, sometimes - but for as long as he can remember, there's been a powerful ache in his chest during snowfall that he's never been able to explain. it draws him outside today, wandering with his boots crunching through settled snow, and though his uncovered head and hands are susceptible to the elements - he doesn't mind it much, right now. )

[Snowy days brought back fun memories to another person, too. And what's a snowy day without more fun memories?

This is why Lacie's face lights up upon seeing someone's back a short distance away. She crouches down, scooping up some snow and molding it into a ball. Once she straightens, the snowball gets readied. Aim... And firing at the back of the unsuspecting person's head!]

( and sees a girl not very far away. for a second he almost thinks it's alice, with all that dark hair, but alice would be shouting something about how she will prevail!! etc, so it can't be her. it's enough to make him pause, though, before he scoops up some snow himself and starts moving in her direction, shaping it into a ball.

his hands are going to quickly go numb, but this is a situation. )

[Oh, he took the bait! Even better! As fun as stoic people who'd scold her/lecture her/line face at her were, people with a sense of humor were even better!

Lacie lets out a cheerful laugh before sprinting and glancing over a shoulder.]

[Are you up for the chase, playmate~? And thanks to the snow and the sheer rush of the game, realizing this person looks like a certain someone still hasn't caught her attention.]

well, okay, obviously that means it's time to chase after her! her laugh confirms that it's someone playful, not malicious, so he doesn't take any hesitation in doing so. besides, it feels right, and more importantly, fun. he'll try to hone in and throw that snowball at some point, but he's pretty happy chasing her. )

[Whoever this person is, she likes how fun he is. Not everyone would be willing to have this sort of game with a random girl. The running ensues for a little while longer till the ball gets tossed. A quick dodge and she spins around, all ready to laugh about it missing when WHOOPS she slips and falls.

She blinks. Once. Twice. Then laughter starts bubbling up from within and a grin spreads across her face. Lacie falls backwards on the snow while laughing. Snowy days really were the most fun.]

( her fall is a little alarming, but her reaction makes him think she wasn't hurt or anything, which is good. he still runs the rest of the way up to her, panting a bit from that exertion. )

Caught you!

( he says even though he did nothing of the sort, and flops down next to her. )

Aaah, it's cold.

( but he doesn't move to get out of the snow just yet either. )

[She shuts her eyes just as the person catches up. A small chuckle is given in reply him having caught her.

Those eyes don't get opened as he sits down. For just a moment longer, she'll keep them closed to be able to feel the snow better. It's cold. Very cold. Yet being able to feel it like this is wonderful.]

Naturally. If it weren't cold, it wouldn't be snow; it would just be water and we'd be covered in mud.

[Something she doesn't sound too concerned about. Quiet frankly, she sounds cheerful about it. Mudfights were just as fun as snow fights. A bit harder to clean, but equally fun.]

Alice might enjoy that!

( he says, with a laugh. gil, on the other hand, would be horrified at the notion - actually, he'd be horrified now, too. he closes his eyes too after a moment, just feeling the snow melt through his clothes and make them stick to his skin coldly. )

I'd rather have snow than mud getting in my hair, though.

[Another soft chuckle leaves her. Whoever this person is, he's a good conversation partner. Oddly comfortable being around him, too.]

It is a lot less messy, but who's to say mess--

[Her voice trails off as upon finally getting a look at this mystery person.]

[Lacie sits back up and leans in dangerously close to Oz. Invading personal space? Whatever, that didn't matter, especially not now.

Hmmm there really were a lot of similarities, granted Jack was a lot older. Same hair color, same eye color. Huh. Interesting.]

( he flattens himself against the ground in some alarm, eyes pulling wide at the sudden proximity. )

...ah.

( - which means he gets a much better look at her, and a moment later it strikes him that both her eyes are red - bright red like vincent's and break's but in a true pair like he's never seen before.

children of misfortune are born with red eyes.

he sucks in a breath, startled. )

[The boy's sudden startled reaction doesn't escape Lacie's notice. It's not hard to guess what cause it.

She smiles, amused (and perhaps the smallest bit of something behind that amusement, not sadness but rather, expectation). It doesn't hurt seeing someone react like this. People can be cruel, but that cruelty is just apart of this world.]

So you've noticed you're in the company of misfortune, hmm?

( he breathes out slowly, and then laughs on the end of it. )

You caught me! Aaah, it was that obvious, huh?

[Laughter, huh? It's an atypical reaction and one she prefers to the usual horror or freak-calling or the like. That smile stays plastered on her face as she response to the laugh with a chuckle.]

Utterly so. You're not very good at hiding it.
