Hurt/comfort is a fan fiction genre that involves the physical pain or emotional distress of one character, who is cared for by another character. The injury, sickness or other kind of hurt allows an exploration of the characters and their relationship.

1. INJURY. You've been injured. Broken bones or bleeding out or maybe just a tiny little papercut. The choice is yours.

2. SICKNESS. You're sick and laid up in bed, at home or in a hospital. The severity is up to you.

3. FEAR/ANXIETY. Something is happening and you're scared beyond belief.

4. LOSS OF SENSES. Sight, touch, taste, hearing, smell, etc. You've lost some important sense or ability and now you're left to deal with it.

5. DESPAIR. Nothing is good or right anymore and you can't shake the depression. Maybe that friend of yours can help though...

6. BREAKUP. You've been dumped. You need someone to comfort you, possibly by the one who dumped you.

7. MAKE UP. Fight or break up, it's time to makeup.

8. RESCUED. You've just been held captive and/or tortured for however long and finally, someone has come to the rescue.

9. BAD ROMANCE. Fight, cheated on, abused, whatever the case is, someone else can clearly see you need comfort from someone who isn't your terrible lover tonight.

10. LOSS. You've experience a loss of some kind and need help getting through it.

11. INSANITY. You're seeing things that aren't really there, hearing voices, or you're just convinced you're at your wit's end finally and you're going to crack. Maybe someone can give you a helping hand.

12. TIRED. You've had a heard life recently and you're just worn too thin to really care anymore. There's no fight left in you anymore. Can someone help change your mind?

13. ADDICTION. Drugs, alcohol, sex, gambling, or any other type of addiction has got you in its grasp. First time or relapse. Will someone be able to save you?

14. INSOMNIA. You can't sleep anymore, no matter how hard you try. Maybe someone can give you company.

15. NIGHTMARES. Or, on the other end of the spectrum, you can't sleep without gruesome, horrible nightmares. Either someone is stuck in your dream with you, witnessing it or they're just waking you up, soothing you out of it.

16. BLACKMAIL. You've been caught doing something you shouldn't and you were blackmailed because of it

17. SEPARATION. You're going to be separated for awhile or were separated for a long time. Either make up for lost time or try to spend every last moment together.

18. VIOLATED. You've been violated in some way. Can include sexual overtones or not. Can someone help you through it?

19. STRANDED. You've been stranded somewhere remote, with no help of anyone finding you for awhile. Can you survive this together?

20. SINS. You're feeling the weight of your sins and guilt clearer than ever. Can someone give you absolution or lessen the ache any?

21. SECRET. It's difficult having to keep that secret of yours, be it a relationship or something you just don't want to share with anybody else. Maybe it's okay to talk about it now though...

22. ADDITION. Babies should be joyous things unless you're in a situation where you know you won't be able to care for them. Either you've adopted or found out you're pregnant.

One particularly rough tangle with a recent quarry has actually left Vos, unfortunately, a slightly damaged in the way of a couple mangled limbs and some internal injuries.

Turns out the fellow really did not want his face after all.

They rarely do, but this just goes to show you, proper restraint is always something to check on first.

Currently, he waits quietly in the infirmary of their ship. Not a sound of complaint.

In due time Tarn winds his way over to this corner of their ship, and eventually he even comes to stand at Vos's side.

"Well, that last one certainly was a surprise, wasn't he? The way he'd managed to break the bonds: ingenious! If the effort hadn't been so ultimately useless, I really would have been impressed."

Even as he says that, he's looking over the battle damage. I goes without saying that their victim had paid -- and paid dearly -- for what he'd done.

The most lithe member of the DJD turns. Optics flicker for lack of any other expression he could ever convey. He's not entirely surprised to see their leader, he does initially, nod, a sound muffled behind his face, something like a scrape in greeting before he actually speaks.

For someone who speaks a nearly dead language, he speaks it very eloquently at the least.

'I should have been prepared for it.' Vos waves a dismissive hand (his only useful one right now).

Admittedly, he's a bit ashamed, he hasn't been laid up like this in what feels like eons.

'At least we were able to properly apprehend him. Treacherous scum.'

"Yes, you should have," he tsks, "but we all make mistakes." He pauses, mentally checking the duties roster he's assigned for the next period and seeing who's next pulling shift in the medbay.

"It won't happen again." And it's hard to tell what sort of inflection those words carry.

Examining a damaged arm, he looks up. "May I?" he asks, not waiting for permission as he reaches for it, but leaving space for a refusal should it come.

'Yes,' One doesn't have to know old Cybertronian to know the hint of shame there, 'We do, I suppose.'

Tarn is given a curt nod. It won't happen again. Vos quietly makes note, perhaps he'd been careless. Perhaps perhaps perhaps.

'Of course,' He rasps. Why would he deny Tarn anything? He shifts so that he can get a better look at the mangled limb, tattered wires and filaments trapped uselessly between his shattered joint.

Tarn is so gentle as he cradles that mangled mess of an arm between his huge fingers and even larger palm. Holding that one slim limb, the difference between their size classes is exaggerated, and Tarn seems even more enormous.

One finger prods lightly at the exposed wires of the wrist. "Can you move this?"

Kaon was usually well behaved, bore up well under complaints and genuinely liked his job.

But sometimes at night in the darkness on the ship, the darkness he was always in, he felt the creeping tendrils of loneliness and despair, and a fear that perhaps he was more expendable than he would have liked.

He crept his way by memory to Tarn's quarters, listened intently for music--and knocked.

That was always the best way to find Tarn when he wasn't working; simply follow the music... or the sound of transformation, but tonight it was music.

The melody doesn't pause when a voice drifts out the door. "Come in."

"I hope I'm not interrupting," Kaon started, listening intently for where Tarn was in the room, "If you're busy, I can come back again another time."

Though he could feel energy signatures, determine approximate locations, he had difficulty with direct, face to face interactions. He relied so heavily on sounds to infer placements and activities.

There's a moment where Tarn's voice seems to be coming from all directions, fluttering around Kaon. "Never too busy for one of mine," which wasn't exactly true, but the lie was so insignificant it hardly meant anything. Besides, he was a good leader. Cruel, self-obsessed, and malicious, yes, but still, a good leader.

"I was just reading one of the old manifestos," bit by bit, though the volume never wavered, Tarn's voice settled into a single point of origin. "You remember them don't you? The ideals that construct that vital backbone of our cause."
