Going 18 on this because these two might hit all the numbers.

The last shred of newspaper was floating towards the ground when the red TARDIS' door swung open. Cracking into a new dimension was always wonderful and horrible. Had he not already been insane by most standards, it would have sent him there. Steam rose off the outside of her, his fingers sliding lovingly down despite the heat that raised red patches on his skin. Time may not be on their side.

The Doctor or whatever he might be called of this reality was sure to have noticed.

The idea alone was enough to make Theta smile as he gave his best girl a last pat and her doors shut behind him. Now to find out where he was and what the state of the world was. At least he left the outbacker hat in the TARDIS. A step out onto the pavement and took a good look around. Something had to be familiar.

all those numbers...

Jack decided to pay Earth a visit, after he decided to wander off to see the stars again. The less he stayed on Earth the better things were in the long run, and with decision to keep Torchwood dead and buried there was simply no need for him here.

This did not keep him from visiting, and Cardiff would be the city of choice on one of his return trips to his adopted home planet. And, there Jack stood by the railings of the Plass that overlooked Cardiff Bay. If there was a sound that would catch Jack's attention, the grinding sounds of the TARDIS handbreak as she dematerializes quickly grabs hold of Jack's attention.

Of all days to visit Cardiff, and with a smile on his face he goes to pay a visit to his old friend. The knowledge of The Doctor's regeneration he managed to grab hold of before his time old friend wiped all knowledge of himself from every known civilization in the universe. Jack hasn't seen this new face in person, and he wasn't about to turn that chance down as he broke off into a run towards The TARDIS.
notthedoctor: (A look back)

just a few of them then

The person who stepped out of the TARDIS looked like the Doctor, but not the one Jack was expecting. A turn to the side showed the face of the tenth regeneration, not Eleven as he should have been. That was, if the fire engine red TARDIS instead of soothing blue wasn't enough of a sign things were off.

Gone was the Joplin coat, replaced with a scuffed and sandy black longcoat. Instead of the brown or blue suit, he had opted for a combination of purple and blue that wasn't the kindest to the eyes. At least it matched the purple trainers somewhat.

One of the biggest flaws in Time had a way of announcing itself in a Time Lord's vision, even one as limited as Theta's was. The predator's instinct told him to turn, to be ready, but Theta kept himself at that half-turn away. A new Jack, a brand new playground for himself to investigate. Giving the game away so soon would be criminal. A small tug was given to the side of his coat, keeping it over his Disruptor.

At least until the Doctor showed himself.

Jack skids to a stop at the sight, the coloring of the TARDIS is way off as is the exterior shell from what he was expecting. It was the face, and maybe it was just something to throw him off. "Doctor?" Jack asks, it might of been a ploy from UNIT or someone else completely.

He takes a look at the choice of clothing. "I thought I heard you regenerated." UNIT was a bit of walk in the park for Jack, during the time he spent making sure any knowledge of himself and Gwen were wiped off the face of the Earth. He could of sworn he caught wind of this, and that was prior to the formation of the organization in the sixties.

"Captain Jack."

The still smoking TARDIS didn't give so much as a light flash at Jack despite the general sense of dislike or discontentment ratcheting up a notch.

The creature that wore Ten's face smiled at Jack although it didn't reach his too old eyes. This could either go very good or very bad. When it came to lying, Theta could run with the best or so he believed.

"Did I? Must have tripped over my own timeline again." He paused, scratching the back of his head as if thinking it over. Rose had once told him it was endearing. "He's not about, is he? Future me? I would love to get some chips if he isn't!"

Enthusiasm and good cheer, he had to remember that.

There was something that wasn't right about everything here, and the red TARDIS should be something. He steps closer to get a better look at a face he's familiar with. "You finally managed to fix your chameleon circuit."

"I think that's what happened, and I'm sure you aren't going to run into your future regeneration." Jack is sure since the closure of the Cardiff Rift the Time Lord had no reason to visit.

The Doctor's need for chips brings a smile to Jack's face. "I think a warm basket of chips will do just fine, and we can talk."

"That? Some. Not fully. Maybe she likes looking this way."

A smile came to his face, never reaching his dark eyes. Jack was a flaw, a scar that stood out in the face of Time even to a half-breed like himself. That didn't stop him from holding a hand out to Jack, tenative and unsure.

"You look ... different. What's happened to you, Captain Jack? You weren't like this before."

He scratched the back of his head, a Tennish gesture of thought or figuring something out. This game was to good to give up for now.

"Chips! And tea! We need those, and you can tell me what's happened to you. Last I remember, you weren't like this. I did look different then with the ears and all. I'm surprised you recognized me."

That smile again, greedy hand still outstretched to Jack.

"I guess she wants a new look after all those years of being blue." Jack's not about to argue about the new color scheme of the TARDIS. "She just looks different."

Jack does look a little different, he looks and he feels tired. "I know, it has been sometime since we last saw each other. I think this might be the slow aging thing I told you about."

"But right, chips and tea." Jack looks at the hand that has been offered out to him, and he goes to take hold of it. "There's a small place somewhere in the city that has some great chips."
allthefeels: (everything okay?)

[John Smith was terribly lost.

He wasn't sure how it had happened, exactly. Some kind of dimension rip, a temporary rift that had swallowed him whole, he assumed. One night he'd gone to bed with Rose asleep at his side, and the next morning he'd woken in a Cardiff alleyway in the universe he'd been born in, cold and wet and alone.

At least he had some luck in his location. Cardiff he knew, from memories that didn't quite belong to him. Torchwood was in Cardiff. Jack was in Cardiff. Jack, who had protected him even before he'd grown into something sentient. If anyone could help, it would be him.

Pulling his navy bathrobe tighter around him around his striped pajamas, a very soggy, very frightened former hand wanders around the square where he knows Torchwood is located, hoping someone will let him in.]

I don't mind an extra handy. :)

[personal profile] dashinghero 2012-10-27 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
The lack of Torchwood meant there was nobody from Jack's old gang to answer the call for help. This is of course unless Jack himself decided to pay the old city he defended on and off for so many years.

Jack made this one of those days to pay the city a visit during his travels across the universe. He was walking alone on the streets with nothing more but old memories and the damp to keep him company. It was when he caught sight of a lanky stranger in a bathrobe that he pulled himself out of his own thoughts, and he began to walk towards him.

"Do you need any help?" Jack calls out to the man, and sure he could be just one of the locals that happens to be down on his luck.
allthefeels: (purple alone)

wooo!

He recognizes the voice right away, and spins on his heel, relief evident on his face.

"Captain! Oh good, I was hoping..." He's interrupted by an abrupt coughing fit that has him doubled over and gasping before he can catch his breath again. Shivering, he pulls his soggy bathrobe tighter around him.

"I need help."
