Well, when it was a decision between Kida Masaomi's life and his own... his decision should be pretty obvious. The only hard part is actually deciding how to do this; getting in contact online would be the easiest method, but it's far too likely to arouse suspicion. So... the direct approach is probably better.

Meaning that, the next time Masaomi's out in public, he's approached by a sparkly-eyed high-schooler!]

Um, I'm sorry to pry but... you're Kida Masaomi, right?

Eh?

[When Kida went out walking, he wasn't expecting to be approached by anyone. The plan had been to hang around, keep an ear to the ground, and wait to see if Izaya would call or text him for something. He hates this waiting game, not knowing what to do and aching to fix the mess he walked in on when he first returned to Ikebukuro.

So when someone he doesn't recognise (someone that appears too young to know his name for any sinister reason) suddenly addresses him, he's a little startled at first. He recovers pretty quickly though, and puts on a cheerful smile.]

Hi there! You've got the right guy! How can I help you? Looking for some Racy Love Tips from the romance master?

Ahh, I must be really lucky!

[And his face just lights up! It's the sort of expression one would expect from someone who just met the famed Kida Masaomi, ladykiller extraordinaire and master of love. It's almost like a dream come true to him, if the way he seems to sparkle is any indication.

So as expected, he hasn't been recognised. While this should make things a lot easier, it's a tad depressing that one of his brother's enemies doesn't even realise he exists. Some people are just too dumb to live.]

I'd be honoured if you could give me some! I've heard a lot of how cool Kida-senpai is from my classmates!

[He didn't actually expect that to work. Count Kida a little off-guard and flattered -- sure, he'd always been pretty good at making himself popular, but he didn't think it'd carry to being recognised on the street after he'd already dropped out of school.

And by such a cute kid, too. He's never seen someone sparkle like that, and it rather reminds him of some kind of tiny, fluffy kitten, all adorable innocence and fluff.]

Ah-- really? Well usually I save my best tips for my friends, but since I'm feeling generous, I'll give one out! The first step to charming a girl is the element of surprise! You've gotta say something completely unexpected, so she can't ignore it! Then you've got her attention and you're Target Locked!

[He hangs on Masaomi's every word, as though each and every syllable was some sort of treasure. When he finishes, a light blush'll come to his cheeks, and he'll start to nervously rub the back of his head.

... Of course, he's tailor-made this expression to come off as endearing as possible, but that doesn't guarantee it'll work.]

Um... does that work when the girl's known for doing surprising things? I think she'd just say something even more expected back at me.

[And he looks so embarrassed for saying it, too! He feels like he must've come off as really ungrateful!]

That's the kind of girl you want though, right? If she surprises you back, it's the start of an exciting relationship!

[Kida holds up one finger as if he's discovered some great new idea. It's a little weird to be having this conversation though, honestly. Something feels a little off, but he can't quite put his finger on it at all.]

Hey, kid. How'd you recognise me anyway? Do your classmates really talk about me?

Well, yeah!

[While he already knows exactly what to say, he still pauses for a moment to give the impression that he's thinking about his answer. After all, he can't make it obvious that he's rehearsed this!]

You're a bit of a celebrity back at Raira, you know? Sacrificing everything and eloping for love... Even Mikado-senpai says cool things about you!

Eh? You know Mikado?

[Well there's a surprise. A pleasant one even, as far as he knows -- if Mikado's talking positively about him, maybe they can be close again after all. Maybe he can make it work.

But that's not relevant right now, so he tries to just look a little confused.]

I bet he'd tell you not to be too much like me, though! Stay in school, don't use puns, all that kind of stuff. He's too straight-laced!

[A quick nod. Well, it's certainly true that Mikado talks about Masaomi; the fact that it tends to be more 'obsessive' than 'positive' doesn't bear mentioning.]

Yeah... While a lot of what he says sounds like he's complaining, the tone he uses makes me think you must've been really good friends!

We still are! Mikado's been my best friend our whole lives, so don't let him fool you into thinking any less! He just can't handle my charm, so he tries to pretend he doesn't know me that well.

[Kida is a person who speaks with his hands (and his whole body, honestly), so there are plenty of broad gestures to accompany his speech, including a waggling finger right at the end, all up in Aoba's face.]

He's just embarrassed, but don't follow his example, okay? Never underestimate the power of your friendships!

[While the sheer flamboyance of Kida Masaomi isn't exactly a secret, seeing it in person is still a little surprising. Still, he'll return with a gesture of his own; a determined fistpump!]

Mm, that's right! I really value the friendship I have with my classmates, and my relationship with Mikado-senpai and Anri-senpai too! You're really understanding, Kida-senpai!

[He pauses a moment, and his smile falters just the smallest amount. Mikado and Anri... and this kid? It's irrational, but he suddenly wonders what their relationship is like. Has he been replaced? Are they having fun together without him? Do they even miss him?]

Ah, well! Sounds like you're having a lot of fun at school, huh?

[Hah, he sees that reaction. While it doesn't really tie into his overall plan, it's incredibly satisfying just to hurt him like this.]

You bet! I've already made a bunch of friends in my new class, and then Mikado-senpai and Anri-senpai offered to show me around!

Whoah, really? Mikado's growing up then! A year ago it was him who needed showing around. Without me, he'd only know how to get to places like computer repair shops and thrift stores. He's kind of a boring guy, y'know! At least Anri-chan has some taste.

[Yeah, he still has no idea anything's wrong, other than that weird prickling at the back of his neck. He'll pretend to be chipper and all, but something's intuitively telling him he should be somewhere else right now.]

Anyway, I've got some errands to run, so I oughta get going.

[Hey now, hey nowww, he can't have that!]

Uh, hang on! I'd like to hear about what Mikado-senpai used to be like so... maybe I could lend a hand? I could get you a drink or something to eat too, if that'd make up for it!
