It had been some weeks since he'd last seen Eliot and even longer since the werewolf had last known about it. Nearing three months now since Eliot had called it quits between them, on grounds of Dominique being a sociopathic psychopath, which he wasn't. Just a demon, although it was understandable how the lines could blur.

Dominique was ready to admit that he hadn't been the best at explaining himself, but he had too much pride to keep groveling after Eliot seemed to already have made up his mind. He wasn't a nice guy and had never claimed to be. He wasn't a bad guy, either, but there had been a time of less principles and also of him having less of a choice. A lot of that had come out and it had been too much for Eliot to swallow in the end.

So he'd left and Dominique was pretending that he didn't give a fuck. He pretended by often finding himself checking in on Eliot and actually threatening a woman he'd seen Eliot hit on at one point, which unfortunately the werewolf figured out - not his fault human women scared easy and he couldn't have known it would trigger an asthma attack - which hadn't helped his case.

Very definite break up since that encounter and Dominique didn't like it. What he liked even less was finding out that Eliot was in trouble.

He wasn't sure on the specifics for how it had come about, didn't really care to find out, either. All he learned was that Eliot was kept captive, tortured and whoever it was seemed to know about the werewolf issue. That last piece he put together when he actually came to Eliot's cell and saw him with a metal collar around his neck, a chain connecting it to the wall. The metal glimmered and the werewolf's neck was rubbed raw underneath it. Silver.

That wasn't the only injury though. Various bruises and traces of blood showed continued abuse. Either someone was trying to torture him for information or simply didn't like him very much.

The issue was that Dominique would have had an easy enough time of freeing him, but he knew Eliot well enough not to expect gratefulness. He didn't want to do anything to drive an even deeper wedge between them, so he was hoping to be able to talk him into accepting his help. Maybe even ask for it.

So once he made sure the cell was empty, Dominique did materialize, shadows pooling around him. He wasn't far away from Eliot, which maybe wasn't the smartest move in case the werewolf might be wanting to hit him, but it seemed worth the risk.

"Cozy. How much is this room per night?"

Eliot didn't intend to actually break up completely, he just needed some time away. A part of him had known that he would eventually return to Dominique, especially after his wolf had accepted the demon as his Alpha, but not before he made his own decision. There were a lot of things to sort through and he didn't want the demon's presence to influence his thoughts.

Just because he broke up with his boyfriend didn't mean he stopped his life. He still took jobs, still worked as a retrieval specialist, and he still exercised the same precaution as he always did, especially when he didn't have a shadow demon to fall back on.

He didn't know how his secret got out or how this job went so sideways, but it was almost like the whole retrieval had been a werewolf trap. Eliot got the item requested and was fighting his way out when they pulled out the silver. After that, it had been as simple as bagging him and hauling him down to the basement beneath the museum.

Who would have thought an ancient museum held a dungeon below it? He never would have.

Or that the curator was such a sadistic bastard, who liked trying out his torture exhibit on a live target. Werewolves healed, and as long as that collar was kept around his neck, his healing may be slow but they wouldn't be going down for murder.

Eliot hadn't even noticed the shadows producing the demon until that familiar scent traveled up his nose. He opened an eye to show he wasn't asleep but he remained unmoving where he sat against the wall. Honestly, he didn't think he could stand up right at that moment.

"With all the special treatment they give me? Priceless." His voice sounded raw, but he pushed on anyway. "Was wonderin' if you'd show up."

Since he hadn't been hit so far, Dominique took his chances and put his hand near that collar, letting shadows form under it to take the silver's poison from his skin, at least for the moment. He could bust Eliot out from here, easily in fact, but he wanted to know first whether Eliot would want him to.

"Came once I found out about it." His eyes trailed over Eliot's body and although he wasn't the type to growl or show his anger at all, it was noticeable in the way the room darkened. He didn't like how hurt Eliot was, that anyone had dared to do this to him. "Who did this?"

So maybe his voice betrayed some of his anger.

When the shadows came out to protect him, Eliot closed his eye again in relief. It was not a permanent fix, nor even a temporary one, but it was a reprieve from that painful poison and for that much Eliot was grateful. He hadn't felt silver free for a week now, even an indrawn breath felt fresher.

"Museum's curator." It was a sign that Eliot gave up the man's name so easily even after hearing the anger in the shadow demon's voice. The man will die, and at this moment, Eliot didn't even care if it will be gory, painful death. The bastard deserved it.

"You know I needed space, right?"

Beautiful. Not that Dominique tended to lose many words about it, but Eliot was beautiful and seeing him relax under his influence, close his eyes and trust him, at least for the moment, it was beautiful, he was.

"He'll die." And it wouldn't be pretty.

"Yes, I know. But you might appreciate space that smells a little less like your own blood. Nicer interior design. Maybe a kitchen." Dominique shrugged, fingers suddenly combing Eliot's hair back from his face. "Here's a thought. Why don't you try my space?"

So he wasn't good at dealing with rejection.

Eliot only nodded to the conviction he heard in the demon's announcement of his torturer's fate. Having been working wet work after coming out of a war, he had seen the ugliness of the world. Deaths, this death particularly, wouldn't bother him.

"Your kitchen needs improvement," Eliot retorted with his eyes still closed. He subconsciously leaned into Dom's light touch. "But it'd be better than here, yeah."

He still didn't know if he was ready accept the demon but he knew his own past wasn't on the side of angels either. Perhaps he could do the rest of his soul searching in the presence of the demon.

"See, when I got into this I thought my dungeon would need an upgrade, not my kitchen." Dominique closed his own eyes now as he focused his powers, slowly managing to have the collar crack as he pushed against it. He waited for the metal pieces to fall to the ground before opening his eyes again, smiling at Eliot.

"So you're coming with me?"

[personal profile] golden_retriever 2012-09-14 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
"That might too." It was also the first sign that Eliot might not be leaving Dominique for good. The retrieval specialist knew that already, but the demon may not have... until now.

His relief was sighed aloud when the cursed thing finally fell away from him. That simple silver band had caused him such unimaginable suffering over the past week. Even now, probably enough poison had seeped into his system that he will still remain week for days on out.

"Gonna need some help gettin' to my feet," he said instead.

Dominique had been hopeful, but he couldn't know for sure. Now that was all but a confession of undying love - from Eliot, anyway - so he took it for what it was and knew they'd be back together.

Other priorities first though, so he wrapped his arms around Eliot and helped him up, while the room was already darkening around them. "Anything you want to pick up before we take off?"

Eliot scoffed at that question. The cell was as empty as they came and he wanted nothing to do with that shattered silver collar on the ground beside him.

They did take his knives when they captured him, but those knives had also been used on him subsequently.

"I can replace anythin' else," he announced before the memory could be triggered. Leaning into the demon's arm and letting him support his weight, he said in a tired voice, "Just get us outta here."

Dominique noticed the change in Eliot's expression. He knew his lover's weapons and he saw the cuts on Eliot's body. No, he wasn't very happy. But revenge could wait. For now the darkness engulfed them completely and he simply held Eliot as he took them away.

A few moments passed, longer than there really had to, but Dominique enjoyed the time he felt Eliot in his power more literal than he ever could otherwise too much to let it pass by too quickly. Still, Eliot was hurt and needed care, so it only took a few seconds for them to appear in Dominique's bedroom.

He helped Eliot on the bed immediately.

"Do you need a healer?"

Eliot had to lean heavily on Dominique during their shadow travel, but he doubted he would have been much of a burden to the powerful demon. He never understood how that method worked except that it just did, and in moments, he found himself in the familiar space of the demon's apartment.

Although Eliot would never admit to it even under torture, after that ordeal, it felt nice to fall into Dominique's bed and be surrounded by the scent of his lover. He certainly didn't feel like smiling, but he did inhale deeply after he was settled in.

"Just need to rest." Even as he answered, he looked like he was ready to fall asleep. His wolf associated this den with safety and he did too. He knew no one will be getting him without going through Dominique first.

"... just so you know... I'm outta here in the mornin'," he added drowsily.

"Sure you are." Dominique decided not to comment on how he doubted Eliot would even be awake for morning, much less be overly capable of going anywhere. Maybe he should get him a healer despite what he had said.

He should also probably make him eat and drink, but he wasn't quite that aware of mortal needs and he wasn't about to make Eliot feel crowded. Not too much, anyway.

"Rest well, Eliot. Do you need anything else?"
golden_retriever: (Wolf's Exhaustion)

[personal profile] golden_retriever 2012-11-26 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
Probably not, but Eliot felt obliged to say it anyway. Just like how his wolf wanted Dominique's reassuring presence but he would never say that on pain of death. Sometimes he might be in agreement with that more primal animal inside him, but not always could he admit to it so easily.

"No... Some water on the bedside, maybe." He yawned and his eyes drifted close, leaving only his voice to add more asleep than awake, "I'll drink it when I wake."

He will not be going anywhere anytime soon, definitely not before morning.
