caught in the rain

it started out quietly, and then, quite suddenly, you're caught in a storm. Time to find cover. Nothing much to do but to wait it out.

Scenarios listed below for those who want 'em.

i WHERE:
001 PLAYGROUND - Well, you can try to hide under the slide or maybe in the jungle gym... at least you're some place fun?
002 PARK - Always happens, caught outside trying to take advantage of the weather... and it ends up pulling a fast one on you.
003 STORE FRONT - Better hope they have an awning you can take advantage of 
004 THE BEACH - Not exactly the best place to be during a rainstorm, however it is possible to get caught in a sudden storm
005 WILD CARD - Anyway you want it


ii HOW:
001 TREE - Not the best cover, but it'll have to do, stay close to the roots and you won't get too wet.
002 UMBRELLA - Most conventional... Kinda boring. But it works.
003 NEWSPAPER - Not permanent, but it'll have to do. Good luck
004 BAG - Well... y'gotta do what you gotta do.
005 NONE - You know what. You're a rebel. You don't need cover. Screw convention
006 WILD CARD - that's the way you need it


iii WHY:
001 REJECTED - Welp. Rejection sucks. And no one will see you crying in the rain.
002 WAITING - For the bus? For someone else? For some revelation? What are you waiting for.
003 MELANCHOLY - Sometimes the best place to feel a bit down is out in the rain.
004 HAPPINESS - Is everything going your way? Are you singing a refrain while walking down the lane? Just singin. Singin' in the rain.
005 ANGER - WELL YOU KNOW WHAT. SCREW YOU TOO RAIN.
006 WILD CARD - Anyway you want it.

[He reaches out to accept the umbrella. Carefully.]

[Cactuar hands over the umbrella and pin wheels its arms.

Maybe that means it is happy to help.]

[Now significantly less soaked, Vivi blinks in curiosity rather than mild terror.]

Where did you come from?

[1000_needles]

Ge-ka! Ge-ge-ka. Ge-ka, ge-ka.

[Helpful cactuar is voicing this elaborate explanation in the language of his people.]

[Woah! It speaks!]

I, um. I'm afraid I don't understand you.

[Oh no! Vivi doesn't understand?

Very well, it'll try to show Vivi what it means by doing the dance of its people.

Pinwheeling its arms...

ONE THOUSAND NEEDLES!!!]

[There's a high-pitched squeal and Vivi is shielding himself with his coat and the brim of his hat. Which are now covered in needles.]

I'm sorry!

[No! Don't apologize. Maybe it did the dance wrong.

Now it does the dance of apology.

[This is just going terribly downhill. And his umbrella has all kinds of tiny holes in it.]

U-um...

[Is it attacking him? Does he fight back? He starts to shuffle away.]

[No! Don't leave! Cactuar is sorry.

Cactuar hops after Vivi, but the rain is pouring hard. Catuars are weak to water.

The poor guy wobbles a bit, then collapses.

Vivi gets ONE THOUSAND EXPERIENCE POINTS!]

Hey, Vivi, there you are! I've been looking all over for you!

[He dashes over the sand. He doesn't seem to mind the rain pouring down over him, soaking his hair, clothes, and tail until he's as much water as he is Zidane.

He comes to a halt next to Vivi, standing beside him companionably, then turns to look out at the sea: dark gray beneath the falling rain, except where the white foam flashes pale on the crests of the choppy waves. He wonders why Vivi came all the way out here by himself. It's not sightseeing weather, that's for sure. He's concerned about his friend, but he smiles.]

The ocean's nice, isn't it? But it's not such a great day for swimming. If you want some surfing lessons, we're gonna have to wait.

[littlehat]

N-no, that's okay. I don't think I'd be very good.

[Vivi looks up at Zidane, blinking his bright eyes, before returning his gaze to the water. He already feels a little better, knowing Zidane is here, right next to him, like he always is. He's a good friend. Vivi, as ever, is glad that he met him.]

Doesn't the rain bother you?

[He, at least, has his hat.]

What? That's no way to think. You never know until you try, y'know.

[He winks.]

And in my professional, official opinion, you can't say if you're good or bad until you've tried.

[Zidane gives a somewhat theatrical shrug.]

Nah, it's just water! I'll be fine. It's not gonna hurt me any. Probably could use a bath, now that I think of it. Ladies like a clean man.

[And he doesn't really get sick. Definitely not from getting rained on.]

How about you? What're you doing out here? Now that I know you're not planning on taking a swim.

[Vivi adjusts his hat, water droplets cascading from the brim as he does so. He doesn't understand why Zidane talks about girls so much...]

I just... came to look at the water. Water into water. I didn't mean to worry anybody.

[Cause girls are cool, that's why. And cute.]

[Ha ha. Excuse his non-joke. He looks out to sea, more thoughtfully now.]

I wasn't worried. Don't worry about it. You got something on your mind? You know you can tell me.

[He's quiet for a long moment.]

I was just... thinking about the Black Mage Village. And...

[They're not good thoughts, really, but he can't get them out of his head. How much time does he have left?]
