the floor is what??

just share the damn bed with me.

For whatever reason, the floor is an unacceptable place to sleep. It's messy, the dog is there, THE FLOOR IS LAVA, there's flooding, feels weird, or it's too dirty to walk on. Who cares why it's not acceptable, it just isn't! Normally, that's not an issue, but tonight you have a friend over. Maybe it's the safest place, maybe it's hurricane season and your house is the only one out of the path of the storm. Are they mooching off you? Stop trying to figure out the details! Just get over it and share the bed with that person! Sexy times are not required. Intimacy is not required. Just share the damn bed already.

prompts —

1. It's late. You're tired. Too tired to drive and THE FLOOR IS LAVA.
2. It's late. You're drunk. Too drunk. Honestly, how did you drink that much and not die? Should we take you to the hospital? Here, just stay in this bed with me. No, you can't sleep on the floor. THE FLOOR IS LAVA.
3. It's early. You thought you'd just come by and visit but you can barely function. The bed seems inviting. Guess what, you're invited into the bed! Yes. The bed. Not the floor. THE FLOOR IS LAVA.
4. DO YOU LIKE TO CUDDLE? CUDDLING IS OKAY. And yes, the floor is lava.
5. WILDCARD. Just figure out a reason why you need to share the bed. But don't forget: the floor is lava!
6. The Crack Fun Insane Option - Actually play the Floor is Lava Game!! Move about the room without touching the floor... because the floor is seriously lava.

[ Beth has no choice but to let Negan do whatever he wants when he comes to visit, including handle Judith. She tries her best to hide her in the nursery but it's only inevitable he finds her. For a moment, Beth considers standing up to him, but what good would being beaten to death do? Rick needed someone to look after Judith whenever he needed to leave the safe-zone and Beth was the best person for the job; she'd almost become a surrogate mother who Judith relied on, and Maggie would be devastated if she lost Beth, maybe even seek revenge against Negan and get herself killed, along with her baby. Negan would do what he wanted with Judith anyway after killing Beth, so it was pointless trying to play the hero.

Beth hates Negan with every fibre of her being, hates him being in the same room as Judith, let alone holding her, but she has to allow him to be around her. That doesn't mean she can't glare at Negan the whole time he's present. She doesn't have to like that he's there and her feelings are fairly obvious. This doesn't seem to bother Negan, who makes a comment about how she'd make a good wife - one of many he has apparently - and Beth swears she throws up in her mouth a little at the thought.

Beth couldn't wait for Rick to come home, but she knew something bad would happen when he returned. And something bad did happen - Spencer is gutted in front of everyone, Rosita takes a shot at him and misses (Beth wishes she hadn't), then Eugene is taken as one of Negan's prisoners. What an awful day - but they've had worse.

It makes sense for Beth to sleep under the same roof as Rick in Alexandria when she's the primary babysitter, and after putting Judith to sleep that night, she doesn't feel like sleeping alone, not after a tense twenty-four hours being in Negan's presence. She knocks at Rick's bedroom door, softly enough that if he's asleep by now, she won't wake him. When he gives her permission to come in, it sounds like sleep is the last thing on his mind. ]

I just put Judy to bed... and I gave her an extra long bath so there's no trace of him on her. [ She shudders visibily at the thought of him, a guilty look in her eyes. ] I'm so sorry I couldn't stop him, Rick. I felt sick watchin' her with him. [ It probably made her realize how much she loved Judith, terrified watching her be held by such a dangerous man. ]

[ Earning supplies for Negan grated at every single fiber of Rick's being and he wanted nothing more than to punch the smug grin from his face. But he knew he needed to go along with things for the time being to keep everyone else safe. The losses of Abraham, Denise and Glenn were still too fresh and they couldn't lose anyone else. The group just wouldn't be able to withstand it.

The need for supply gathering led him along with Aaron to a lake filled with walkers. A death sentence of sorts but they managed to overcome it and return to Alexandria. They were a little more battered than usual but Rick never expected to walk into such a scene of chaos between Aaron beating, Spencer gutted in the middle of the street, Rosita's misfire and Eugene's abduction, they were all frayed at the seams. Something had to break and it felt like it had right inside of him.

They couldn't keep going like they were and needed to change everything. Negan's reign needed to end and now.

Numbly, he prepared himself for bed but knew he wouldn't exactly sleep. Everyone kept making demands of him and the stain of Spencer's death on the street served as yet another reminder of what he failed to do. He couldn't keep any of them safe, could he?

At the sound of a knock on the door, he made a grunt of 'come in', his eyes slowly lifting to greet Beth's. The only other rare of light in his life. What would he do without her? He never wanted to find out. ]

Thank you. [ He meant the words sincerely and motioned her forward to sit on the pallet masquerading as a bed with him. The saviors gutted their homes as well and it made him so angry. They needed to be stopped. ] That's not on you, Beth, nothin' you could have done. You kept Judy safe and yourself. That's all that matters to me.

[ He let out a soft sigh. ] No other way 'round it now, we gotta prepare ourselves for a fight. Gonna go and see your sister tomorrow at Hilltop. This has gone on long enough. He crossed the last line. [ Rick's hands clenched into fists for a moment. ] Won't let any of this stand.

[ Going with Maggie to the Hilltop had been an option but she couldn't leave Judith behind. It probably said a lot about how strongly she felt she couldn't drop her responsibilities but not just that - she truly didn't like being separated from Judith and the feeling was mutual. Besides, there wasn't much she could do for her sister, as much as she wanted to do anything to make her feel better, there was nothing she could do. Glenn was gone and he was irreplaceable. That grief wouldn't ever go away, it would become a part of Maggie, the same way it had become a part of everyone who'd lost someone.

Beth makes her way into Rick's room and takes him up on his offer of sitting. ]
It'll be good to see her... She'll be pleased that we're gonna fight.

[ God knows Beth couldn't keep living the way they're living now, with Negan "dropping in" to try and play "happy families" with Rick's family. They needed to do something. Even if they lost, it was worth the risk trying if there was a chance they could win. ]

...Bet she's even bigger, too. [ She adds lightly after noticing Rick's fists clenching, referring to Maggie's stage of pregnancy. ] Can't wait for Judy to meet the baby once they're born. It'll be good to have someone her age to play with when they're older.

[ With so many unknown factors, Rick really felt at a loss on where to go to ensure their victory. Taking on the Saviors would be their biggest risk to date, shockingly enough with all their past experiences. Anymore loss would devastate the group and make it harder to fight back, leaving the Saviors free to destroy the very thin balance they welcomed with the other communities. If Alexandria failed it would end any other stirrings of rebellion and Negan would have what he wanted most - uncontested power.

A deranged madman could not control their brave new world. Rick would not allow it even if he had to lose more of himself in the process to ensure it didn't.

Looking over at Beth, he reached out to squeeze her hand. Maggie being pregnant in the middle of a warzone would be difficult. ]

We'll make sure she's taken care of. Wish she'd rest more. [ He shook his head, still picturing Spencer and Olivia. Their accusing eyes haunted him and the weariness of it all clung to his body like a second skin. ]

Trainin' will start tomorrow. You gonna help? [ A fleeting smile ran over his face. ] Think people would be shocked to see what ya can do. [ He knew better than to ever underestimate Beth and she meant so much to him. He couldn't imagine life without her in it. ]
