The Roommates Meme

Whether its in the dorms at college or just because it costs too much to live alone, sometimes you just end up sharing a living space with someone else. A roommate. Or even more than one. Sometimes they're your friends and others you hate their guts. Its not always easy adjusting to living with other people.

- Post with your characters, listing name and canon in the subject line along with any prefs.
- The person that replies is now your character's roommate.
- Either set a scenario of your own or use the RNG to pick one.
- Have fun threading things out!

1. Moving In - Say hello to your brand new roomie! They're moving in today. Are you going to help them with their boxes? Hopefully you get along.

2. Moving Out - For whatever reason, you're parting ways. One of you is moving out. Will it be a tearful goodbye or are you going to tell them not to let the door hit them on the way out?

3. Best Friends - You and your roommate have been together a long while and you've become great friends. Hang out, order a pizza, watch TV. Have some fun with this great person you live with!

4. Angry! - Maybe they left the bathroom a mess. Maybe they're just way too loud at night or they ate the last of your cereal. Whatever the reason, you're angry at your roommate. Maybe they're mad too. Have a fight or try to work it out somehow.

5. Falling for them - You didn't think it would happen but it has. That roommate of yours is just your type and you've fallen for them. Will you tell them or keep it to yourself? Maybe they already know and are trying to figure out things for themselves.

6. Wildcard - Roll again or pick your own. Whatever looks fun.

[Leon gets the door, putting on his company face. Hopefully this new flatmate of his won't be too strange.]

[....Does coming in with her cat perched on her head count as strange? Toby's completely opposed to his cat carrier]

[Are you kidding? He has a soft spot for animals ~~that are as fluffy as his hair~~. A murmur of delight escapes his lips, but he refrains from petting it as it would probably be rude to touch a stranger's pet.

--because she is clearly a stranger and not his roommate, right?

Smiles at her,] Hello. Is there anything I can do for you?

Oh! Erm, h-hello. [Molly says nervously, trying to coax Toby to let go of her head. She must look nutters] Y-yes, actually, you might? Has my roommate shown up yet? [Clearly he's some sort of landlord/building manager type] We haven't actually met yet so I'm a bit nervous...

Roommate?

[frowns at this, suspecting something... but before he can come to the logical conclusion, he thinks it more important to help her with the cat.] --feisty creature, aren't you? [smiling as he manages to gently pry Toby off her shoulders]

Oh, thank you... [Molly breathes with relief as Toby is pried from her shoulders. Toby swipes a little at the strange man - playtime!]

Yes, he's got a bit of an attitude. Don't you, Toby? [She smiles wryly at him, scratching behind his ear]

[Oops! Almost got him in the chin there! Leon shifts his arms a bit to settle the cat and grins when it purrs in response to her scratching]

You certainly know how to tame him.

Heh, by now I'd certainly hope so. He's been with me for over a year - I think we've come to an understanding.

[She smiles as Toby calms and purrs] I only hope my roommate will get along as well as he does.

[aaaand back to that particular puzzle. He strokes Toby and continues to smile at her, though it is a polite, puzzled smile this time]

Yes, of course... Um. So are you staying across the hall then?

Uh....no? I'm staying here, actually. This is 127, right?

[stare] You're to be my roommate? This must be some kind of mistake.

[She blinks] ...What? Y-You live here? [Soon followed by a tiny frown] Wh-Why, what's wrong with me? Is it Toby? [Did she smell or was her hair askew?]

Oh no, it isn't you! And certainly not the cat either. [shoots a friendly grin at Toby, which he then turns on her] I was just expecting... well... a male roommate. Was it Mike Stamford that sent you here?

[When Mike called him earlier to say that he found someone for him, Leon couldn't recall if he mentioned anything about the new roommate being a woman. Wasn't there a rule about that sort of thing?]

Oh. Oh yes, you're right, that would...make sense.

Y-Yes, it was. Do you think he made a mistake?

He could have... [studies the wooden door frame for a minute.]

Um. Why don't you come in while we sort this out? I'm sure Mike must have just mixed up his clients or something.

[As he opens the door wider, gesturing her in:] --I'm Leon by the way. Rude of me not to introduce myself at the get-go, sorry.

Oh, oh yes, right, of course, how rude of me! [She dips her head sheepishly as she steps inside]

I'm Molly. And you already know Toby.

It's, uh, nice to meet you, Leon.

Did you bring anything else with you? [head out door, looking into the hall for bags and things— experience has taught him that most girls liked to bring entire wardrobes of things with them.]

[There are about three medium-sized boxes, a suitcase, and two handbags neatly situated just outside the door]

Oh, yes, um, I-I hope it's not too much? There's a bit more in my car but it's nothing terribly important..

Nah, this is manageable. I'll bring them right in. [and he does so, closing the door behind him.]

Would you like a drink? I have some coffee out but I could ready you some tea if you prefer that. Toby can have some milk, if he likes. [he nods towards the cat, the picture of hospitable.]

Oh gosh, thanks! You didn't have to do all that...

Y-Yeah, that would be great, actually! And coffee's fine. [Normally she does tea at home and saves coffee for those longer shifts at work, but she can be flexible] And I think Toby will love that.
