It’s only when it starts impacting his missions that he decides something needs to be done about it. It’s his best friend, after all, he needs to make sure at the very least that he’s safe, okay?
Sakura looks kind of relieved when he brings it up, and kind of annoyed she can’t go with him, but while he can take all the leave he wants she still has hospital duties and missions of her own to deal with. He waves goodbye with a reminder to send a message to his toads if they need him, and then he’s gone.
Judging from Sasuke’s last report; a small amount of good luck, a few friendly travelling carts and perhaps a small influence of sensory chakra from the literal powerhouse living contentedly inside him; it isn’t too difficult for him to eventually spot a dark figure moving almost silently through the trees. Immediately he puts his plan into action. He’s been hatching said plan since he started his journey, so obviously nothing will go wrong, but in his haste and excitement at seeing his ever elusive friend, he forgets to focus so much on the the chakra bonding the soles of his shoes to the branch of the tree he's standing on, and the element of surprise is ruined as he goes sailing downwards from the tall height with a loud cry of surprise. ]

He gave the words he told Sakura a mulling over, specially focused on his parting actions, and even though it was a bit awkward to do the same thing Itachi had done so many times, he saw Sakura as his family now, as someone who'd welcome him home no matter how long it took him to get there.
But then there was Naruto.
He had thought of his friend as a brother before, as someone to surpass and beat, but things had changed. At some point he stopped seeing him as a brother, and the term 'friend' still seemed weird to him. He moved his hand towards his pouch, touching the headband that he knew was there with the tip of his fingers, a small smile forming on his face.
Then came the random yell.
Sasuke grabbed a kunai and got into a battle stance, ready to fight whoever was interrupting his very emotional moment with himself, and, to say that he was surprised, was an understatement.]
Naruto?
[He put the kunai away, checking with his rinnegan in case the person in front of him was a fake, sighing when he noticed it was the real deal (the nine tail's chakra was really hard to copy after all). Sasuke walked over to the blond, an eyebrow raised, looking down at him.]

Eventually he gets to his feet and dusts his pants and his cape free of the leaves and muck settled on the forest floor, and gives his friend a once over. ]
I came to make sure you were doin' okay. I know you send your letters and stuff, but it's not the same. Somethin' just doesn't feel right about leavin' you out here by yourself, but I let it slide for a while, okay? I just gotta be sure.
[ Which is probably Narutoese for I miss you. ]

[Sasuke looks at Naruto, making sure there's nothing wrong with his friend except maybe too much dirt on his clothes. He nods, having assured himself of Naruto's well being, and just stares at the other until he gets up.
He feels Naruto's eyes on him and wonders what that was for, and is about to ask exactly that when Naruto speaks.
Ah.
He probably was lonely, with nothing to do in the village.]
Don't you think I would have asked for help if I needed any?
[No you wouldn't Sasuke.]
Maybe you just wanted something to do and that's why you came.
[He starts to turn, and signals for Naruto to follow him.]
We'll do nothing standing outside, come, there's a place we can stay at.
[He doesn't even wait for Naruto to speak before he's moving away, walking at a regular pace instead of running.]

Then, he snaps out of it and jogs to meet Sasuke's pace, a small smile finding it's way uninvited onto his face. ]
Oi, I have plenty to do back home! I'm in training, y'know! And I'm not slacking off for anythin'! So I've got studyin' to do, and chores and.. [ Yeah, it's becoming evident why he's here. Other than the obvious fact. ] And missions, of course. Everyone's busy. Me especially.
[ He peers around, gazing at trees and more trees and grass and leaves and more trees before he slides his gaze over to Sasuke. ]

[ Nice. Smooth. ]

If you're so busy, how did you find time to spend it with me?
[He looks at Naruto from the corner of his eye, watching him as he stares at nothing, barely moving his gaze back to the front in time for the other not to catch him.]
Less than you, for sure. Helped a few folks, beat up a few assholes, not too much really.
[That smile grows slightly bigger, someone might even pass it off as an actual smile.]

[ Yeah, no, he's totally stumped with that one. He kind of just... told Kakashi he was going, and Kakashi must have figured arguing was useless and let him leave? But that goes against Naruto bragging about being busy, so he stammers himself into silence while he thinks of an excuse.
Luckily for him, Sasuke continues and gives Naruto something to focus on instead of his own excuses. ]
Ah! I figured as much, y'know. Maybe you really are like sensei, huh? Out here being lazy. Just 'cos we met each other head on, doesn't mean I'm gonna quit getting better. You're gonna end up eatin' my dust if you're not careful~!
[ His hands are behind his head and he's doing that arrogant kind of striding step alongside Sasuke, an easy and carefree confidence that's both annoying and endearing in equal parts. That is, until his closed eyes lead him to walk right into a nearby tree and he recoils with a howl of pain, hands clutched over his nose. ]

[He rolls his eyes, and is about to comment on Naruto being the lazy one when he heard the 'thud' and turns just in time to see Naruto bring his hands to his face.
He chuckles.]

[ He doesn't have an excuse he'd be willing to share, so instead he nudges Sasuke's side with his elbow. He doesn't look nearly as pissed off as he might have been now that he's close. ]
That's what being lazy means, y'know. Not doin' anything. You could be back in Konoha not doing anything if that's what ya want to do.
[ He shrugs, silently putting that section of the conversation to bed with a shrug like I'm just saying, before he looks up and around at where they are again. ]
So where are we goin'? You don't have a house out here, do ya?

Never said I wasn't doing anything, it's just not as much as I'm used to doing.
[He looks at Naruto from the corner of his eye, whispering his next words.]
I can't go back just yet.
[He looks up in front of him, and there it is, the small shack he's been staying at, nice and cozy, courtesy of a pretty girl he saved from a mugging in a village nearby.]

[ He sounds surprised that he thinks that, and moves forwards a little closer to peer through the window. ]

[ Yep, still surprised. He'd kind of been imagining Sasuke roughing it in trees out in the wilderness, so a shack is definitely a surprise.. Especially one as nice as this. ]

[He watches with careful eyes as Naruto wonders though the shack, and then sighs.]

[He;s moving to the small kitchen area in one corner, where there's a pot and a teapot. He gets some water from the drain and goes to bill it.]

[ Honestly, he'd kind of been assuming the worst. Sasuke left on a trail of redemption or whatever, and Naruto figured he wouldn't make it easy for himself.. So the fact he's willingly staying somewhere so nice is.. well, it's good, but it also means that Konoha isn't a wildly better option so he's unsure of how to feel.
He wanders after Sasuke at the mention of tea, though, peering after him curiously. ]
Uh-huh, sure. Oh! That reminds me, I brought ya somethin'!
[ He digs in his backpack, pulls out some bundled up food supplies and a few other items like blankets and canisters for water. ]
I thought you might be hungry, an' Sakura-chan told me to bring that. [ He gestures to the blanket. ] But I guess ya don't need it much in a place like this.

He stares at the blond from the corner of his eye, curious as to what he's brought. He smiles softly at him, and shakes his head.]
