the betrayal/redemption meme

BETRAYAL MEME

You have done something unspeakable to the people closest to you. How did this come to be, and how will you make amends?

Instructions

Post with your character with their name, series, and whether you're the betrayer, the betrayed, or simply leave it blank! Then, either make up your own scenario to your liking, or use our prompts (RNG totally optional) and go wild!

(Example: for organization's sake, denote b3+2 where you killed someone and are trying to hide it or r5+3 for a situation where you side-hopped and now want nothing more than to make things right, so that people know at a glance whether you're betraying or being redeemed and what you did.)

betrayal; you've turned your back on everything you once stood for
1) you're innocent. it's not your fault, but they can never know. maybe you're protecting someone. maybe you're being blackmailed. whatever the case, it's your dark secret.
2) you're hiding. you've done something terrible, but no one knows it yet. how far will you go to bury what you've done for good?
3) you're uncertain. everything is in place now, but nothing's been set into motion yet. maybe it's not too late to turn back. or is it?
4) you're slipping. you thought you could change. maybe for a while you even managed to. but now you find yourself falling back to your old ways, and everyone around you is at risk.
5) you're reacting. they betrayed you first. you're not in the wrong. they deserve this. they brought this upon themselves. you're not really betraying anyone if they pushed first.

redemption; you've done something that can never be forgiven
1) you're trapped. they caught you red-handed, or maybe you turned yourself in. now those you betrayed are free to face you one by one and have their revenge.
2) you're false. this whole betrayal thing isn't working out quite the way you'd hoped. maybe if you play your cards just right, you'll be able to get your old life back.
3) you're selfless. whatever forced your hand to begin with doesn't matter anymore. you'll destroy yourself and play the role of a villain to the very end if that is what it takes to make things right.
4) you're lost. what you did was wrong, and you know that now. you can never be sorry enough, and you've lost your way. all you want to do is find home. won't anyone out there show you the way?
5) you're tortured. you have to make amends for what you've done. you have to. the thought consumes you, possesses you. you have to find them, help them. but after what you've done, will they even want to see you again?

what you've done;
1) you sold them out
2) you killed
3) you joined the other side
4) you stole
5) you lied
6) you simply are. you were never 'good' to begin with.

[OH MAN LET ME COUNT THE WAYS

we can totally go the canon route with regards to redemption or let RNG supply the scenario.

it's all up to you i am the worst decision-maker omg.]

[I'm totally fine with either way, THERE'S SO MANY GOOD THINGS WE COULD DO <3

Canon-route might be fun, though! Then we have to decide mid-game or post game, hmm...

Also, who's the betrayer/betrayee? Because they both could totally fit both roles depending on where we took them, lol.

I haven't had a chance to play Wheatley off a Chell yet, so I'm just excited. ^_^]
mutelunatic: ([look up] nope not going to catch you)

[mmmm this is true!

g-d i'm trying to come up with a good scenario lmao um.

RNG gave me R2-3. so how about we can go with Chell trying to make amends with him after teaming up with GLaDOS for a bit? could be a vague canon-yet-AU scenario of Chell trying to make nice to see if he'll just let her leave the facility on her own terms.

unless you have a better more coherent idea :)

[Sounds good to me! ^_^

So, making sure I'm reading this right, it's in the middle of the third act of the game, Wheatley's still connected and on his rampage, and Chell's going to try to get him to let her go? ^_^]
mutelunatic: ([rain] fuck science!)

[You got it! Do you want to start or shall I?]

[Awesome! I'll give it a go, please let me know if you want me to change something, I've not really played evil Wheatley before. ^_^]

[More tests, more tests...Wheatley needed more tests and he needed them now. The brain-damaged lady was going through the tests faster than he could put them together or find them. To make matters worse, he couldn't just pick tests willy-nilly, no, it had to be ornery and insist that he had to choose one with the proper difficulty level the test subject could handle. He had tried to hack it and override the system with a command for a really nasty piece of work of a test, but nothing had happened and it had just been a frustrating waste of time.

So, here he was, flipping through tests as quick as he could, trying to find one that was just right. The longer it took, the greater the Itch, the more frustrated he was starting to get, the quicker and more sloppily he searched.

There just had to be a good test here somewhere.]

[Chell was growing tired of testing. at first the tests were relatively harmless: they were easy, as though a pre-schooler had made them. but soon, they got harder, and as he started picking up unused tests that GLaDOS had lying around, she was growing, well...rather exhausted. she had been nonstop. her being pitted against GLaDOS had not taken as long as the current day she had been having.

here she was, standing at the beginning of the test with a talking potato attached to her portal gun. here she was standing around for the first time in a long time, waiting for Wheatley to set up the test by mashing areas together or whatever he was planning on doing. there was bit of a dazed look as she stared at the screen, half wondering what was taken so long.

she had noted his frustration with her in the previous chamber, the blame he was placing on her for not completing the tests fast enough so that itch of his could be satiated. and while when GLaDOS had been in charge and frustrated with her, there was a bit of a difference between GLaDOS and Wheatley.

there was a sense of desperation on the idiotic metal ball's part. and it was kind of...pitiful, to say the least. there's a bit of a frown and she takes this opportunity of his searching to finally get a seat down on the floor, looking up at the monitor that normally contained his ever-watchful eye as she waited for him to return.

[As Wheatley's irritation and itch grew, the less he was able to make coherent thoughts, until, finally, in a burst of rage he activated several controls and sent a testing chamber into position.

Once it was ready to go, he came back onscreen. His tone was curt and harsh, he wasn't in the mood to play games, not when there was testing to do, not when there was an itch to satisfy.]

There. Finally. Just do the bloody test. And get on with it, we haven't got all day.

...Well...actually we do, but pay no attention to that, take that right out of your mind. Only focus on testing, just testing. You do the testing and I do the....making of the tests. Making tests, that's what I do, and solving tests, that's what you'll do. Forever.
mutelunatic: ([psh] yeah right)

[personal profile] mutelunatic 2012-02-02 06:34 am (UTC)(link)
[Chell looks away from the screen as she begins to assess the newly formed testing chamber. for a moment, it looked as though she was about ready to get on with it. after all, GLaDOS had kept urging her that she had a vague idea how to get to Wheatley. just continue testing and they'll be brought closer and closer to him.

but, while she had no sympathy for the guy (he was trying to kill her, after all), there was still a sense of...pity, i guess you could say, when she heard his curt tone.

even though it was completely his fault that they were in this current situation, she still didn't like the idea that she had lost someone who had been somewhat of a friend to her. well, a selfish friend but you get the idea.

so instead of getting up off her ass to do the test, there's a pause as she looks up at Wheatley, frowning a little, and she shakes her head at him.

no. she really doesn't want to test forever.

[Wheatley knows Chell's rebellious and honestly should have expected something like this. However, his patience is running very thin and the itch is becoming nearly unbearable, so he just snaps.]

No? No? What do you mean no? What are you going to do instead? Sit on your bum and listen to your little friend there? I bet you two are plotting something, aren't you? I'm going to put an end to that, somehow. Not sure, how, still working on that, but you will test. Oh, you will test.
mutelunatic: ([sigh] lame robots are lame)

[personal profile] mutelunatic 2012-02-02 07:16 am (UTC)(link)
[the snap just causes Chell to stitch her eyebrows together as her frown deepens. at the mention of her 'friend' she casts a look towards PotaDOS who is rattling off something about Wheatley being a moron or something to that extent.

there's another shake of the head and she sighs, rolling back her shoulders as she places the portal device down on the ground despite auto-tuned protests coming from the potato attached to it.

she's being stubborn, sure, but she has a plan all on her own. she's tired of revenge. the last time she sought revenge against an angry AI it went horribly wrong, so perhaps she could try for another tactic.

Chell stands, raising her hands up slightly as she shakes her head again, as though to say she has nothing planned, or at least there were not plots on her end. she lowers her arms to her side and looks back up at him.

[personal profile] chattersphere 2012-02-02 07:29 am (UTC)(link)
[Wheatley's so far gone at the moment that even if PotaDOS is audible to him, he doesn't even care about being called a moron, he just wants Chell to test so that the itch can be satisfied, at least for a short bit. Immediate gratification is all that matters at the moment.

Thus, when Chell puts the portal gun down, he's furious and puzzled. It doesn't make sense to his dim little pain-addled brain.]

What are you doing? It's the brain-damage, isn't it? It's gotten worse and has set in and you've probably got brain rot or the like by now.

Here's a newsflash: you can't solve the test without the portal gun. It's impossible. Can't be done. Not in any way. No way, no how.

I checked, and it says right here, "This test cannot be completed without the aid of the Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device." A bit on the wordy side, but you get the meaning.

So, going to make this real simple for you to understand, pick up the portal gun and solve the bloody test.

There, simple enough. So simple even someone with brain damage could understand. Hint, hint.

I'm talking about you, if you didn't realize, by the way. Just making it even more obvious for you, so there's no misunderstanding. Can't see how you'd not understand that. Nice and simple.

[personal profile] mutelunatic 2012-02-02 07:47 am (UTC)(link)
[so yeah, it's kind of hard to get your point across when you can't talk. or, well, in Chell's case refuse to talk. but she's adamant. she crosses her arms and shakes her head yet again, not entirely sure how to convey that she's, well, throwing up a temporary white flag for the time being.

she wanted to talk.

well, not actually talk but at least try to convey that she actually really hates seeing him like this and even though he's acting like an ass she does feel sorry for him.

she even nudges the portal gun away with her foot despite GLaDOS' protests.

listen dude if she could talk she'd be saying she wants to not carry on like this. everything was so much better when you weren't a homicidal little ball strapped onto a giant itch-inducing chassis, which, she could admit, was partially her own doing though not entirely her fault but whatever. once again, she holds her arms out from her side, shrugging, before recrossing them across her chest.

[Sadly, Wheatley's not the brightest core and on top of that, is currently in a great amount of pain, and is forced to single-mindedly focus on one sole goal. And right now, you're keeping that goal out of his reach and making his terrible mood that much more sour.

He hates being like this too, it's horrible and painful, but he gets to be in charge of everything, so that's a plus. And it feels so good once a test has been solved, so there's another point. The nature of the machine has got him in its grip, it's destroying him and right now, plugged in, he's only a shadow of his former self. Instead of friendly, goofy Wheatley, he's forced to be Wheatley, Overlord of All. And he's not handling the power or the pressure or the itch very well.

If he was himself, he'd agree with Chell's unspoken words, their plan was so simple and look where it had gotten them.

He's got plenty more harsh words where the previous ones came from. He cannot fathom what you're doing or why you're indirectly tormenting him so.]

Now...now you're kicking it away? What are you doing? Is the brain-damage making you do the opposite of what I'm telling you to?

Let me spell it out for you: You. Need. The. Portal. Gun. Five simple little words that make one simple sentence. Understandable enough. So, stop playing whatever brain-damaged game that you're playing and pick up the bloody gun.

This isn't a request, it's an order. You will pick up the gun. You will continue testing. Even if I have to drag you through the test myself, it will be solved.

No more of this sitting around on your bum doing nothing or playing "kick the portal gun". There's testing to do, and you're going to do it.
