MINOR INJURIES;

You or your meme partner has been hurt, but don't worry! This time around it's not that bad. You can still limp your way out of this mess.
INJURIES.
1. Sprain/strain. How did you screw up walking?
2. Broken bones. Simple fractures still hurt.
3. Cuts. Hopefully one of you has a sewing kit.
4. Burns. Location, location, location. Let's pray this one isn't on your ass.
5. Concussion. No, they're most likely not holding up fifteen fingers.
6. Other. I'm not a doctor.
HOW'D IT HAPPEN.
1. Stupidity. You did this to yourself.
2. Accident. Is an unintentional attack still an attack?
3. Attack. Don't lie, you deserved it.
4. Other. It's probably still your own fault.
WHERE'D IT HAPPEN.
1. Home. Did you remember to invest in a first aid kit?
2. School/Work. This should be excellent for getting you out of doing stuff!
3. Outdoors. Predators like the smell of blood. Clean up asap.
4. In the water. Hopefully there aren't any sharks!
5. Other. Like a hospital. That'd be handy.

Accidents happened.
It just so happened that Jyn had found herself at the right place and the right time to fall victim to one. It could have been worse, she was told repeatedly by medics and doctor alike, relegated to medbay like she was some sort of ... invalid.
She knew it. Durasteel crate that heavy? If it had crashed down on her head or her back ... she'd be dead. In the grand scheme of things, a broken foot didn't seem so bad, although she would be out of commission until it healed properly. Still, frustrated, she sighed and sat back against her bed, and not for the first time wondered why it had to have been her.

Despite knowing her injury ahead of getting there, he'd never felt such fear - what if it had been worse? What if she had died?
"Are you okay?" He asked, trying to catch his breath. Obviously she wasn't judging by her injured foot and the fact that the medics haven't released her yet. K4 was standing near by, silent. This droid wasn't as...talky as K2. Cassian wasn't sure if that was a good thing yet.

"Thanks a lot", she'd said, although no sarcastic remark had been returned. K4 would get there with time, maybe. It was still just a baby, after all.
She glanced up, startled, when he rushed into the room, a frown marring her features when she realized that he must've sprinted the entire way. If she hadn't been repeatedly warned to stay off the foot until she was told otherwise, she'd have jumped up and pulled him into a hug just to reassure him that she was just fine. "I've had worse", she answered wryly, suddenly exhausted and ashamed and hurting, everything she hadn't been letting herself feel since the incident. "I'll be fine, I promise."

"Yes," he said after a moment to think it over. He'd need to get back to the computer lab where he'd been using that datapad to look over files eventually. He couldn't stay by Jyn's side.
He turned to Jyn and took her hand. "What happened exactly?"
no subject
And while she knew, realistically, that Cassian couldn't stay as long as she'd like, she'd still be disappointed when it was time to let go.
For the moment, though, she was grateful for his presence, and the comfort of his hand. "A crate wasn't secured as well as it should have been. It got jostled, and I was in the way. If K4 hadn't warned me, I wouldn't have been able to get out of the way in time. It would've - I'd ... well ... ", she sighed, shaking her head. "I'm still here, though. I'll be fine. Just needs to be set and splinted."
The bacta tanks needed to be saved for severe injuries. This would need to heal on its own time.

"I'm glad you're okay," he said, sitting up to look at her, worry still etched on his face.
He turned to K4. "Work on your reflexes."
"Yes, captain," K4 replied.
no subject
She couldn't help her softly breathed little chuckle, nodding her agreement, still clutching his hand tightly. "I don't know if I've said it yet, K4, but thank you."
To Cassian, she murmured - "I'm sorry. I don't want you to worry about me ... I'm alright. Give me a month or so, and I'll be good as new."
no subject
Cassian had a huff out a laugh at the droid - not quite K2, but good enough, he thought.
"I know," he said, leaning in to kiss her forehead. He did know - it wasn't a terribly serious injury, but she was still injured nonetheless. "I have to go, unfortunately," he said after a moment.

Jyn sighed, and reluctantly loosened her grip on his hand in preparation of letting him get back to his work. She wished the visit could've been longer, but they'd see each other when he was finished and she was discharged. She couldn't expect him to stay indefinitely. Things needed to be done, things that were far more important than her foot, and whatever pain she was in. She'd survive, and if he was reassured by seeing it for himself, all the better.
"I know. The sooner you get done, the sooner you can come and dote on me", she teased, her smile a mix of disappointment and amusement all at once. "That's what you were going to do, yes?"
(Purely teasing - she wasn't really expecting any special treatment. She just wanted more time, just to be close, to reassure the both of them that this was nothing, that she wasn't going anywhere anytime soon ... literally.)
no subject
He turned to K4. "Let me know when she's free to leave."
"Yes, Captain," K4 replied.
Cassian looked back at Jyn as he stood up from the chair, his hand holding onto hers loosely.
"I'll see you soon."
no subject
With little to do but sit and wait, Jyn knew the hours wouldn't pass by quickly enough. Even when she was safely sequestered back in their room, she'd be bored and on edge, an the wait would be terrible, but she'd bear it. There was no other choice.
She didn't let go until she absolutely had to, but still offered a smile, however small. "Can't wait."

It was almost time for dinner by the time Cassian was done not only looking over files but updating reports. Despite being a "spy," there was a lot of paperwork involved. He scrubbed his hands down his face, tidied up his space and then went to see Jyn.

Besides, it hardly mattered, because they'd come again when the work was done, as always, and that made the absence at least a little more palatable, a little easier to deal with.
The doctor came and set and splinted her foot, sending Jyn and K4 off with pain medication and strict instructions to stay off of her foot as much as possible, which left her wondering just what she was supposed to be doing for the weeks needed in order to heal properly.
When Cassian returned, he'd find Jyn napping fitfully, tossing and turning more than usual.
no subject
"Hey, Jyn - Jyn -" He said, sitting down on her side of the bed and shaking her gently. He smoothed her hair back from her face.
no subject
Part of it probably had to do with the medication, but part was certainly due to her dreams, too. "Mm?", she asked, coming around very, very slowly, frowning as she tried to figure out where she was and what was happening. "Cassian .. ? Something happening?"

Her stomach rumbled then, signaling that there was, indeed, a need for food. "If you wouldn't mind. I'm not exactly supposed to be very mobile right now."
no subject
He smiled one last time before leaving to the cafeteria, his heart swelling with something he's only felt before with Jyn.
no subject
The moment the door slid shut behind him, she flopped back down onto the bed, wondering how she'd managed to stumble into the best thing in her life despite all the losses they've faced, how it was possible that they even found each other, if such a thing as meant to be even existed.

And food, of course, she was happy about that, too.
"Actually, I'm starving, so that sounds amazing. Thank you for all of this - I ... know it's a hassle, but I appreciate it all the same."
no subject
Jyn had given his life some purpose, finally, that didn't revolve exclusively around the damn war. "Trust me."
no subject
But maybe it would help to know that she felt much the same about herself. Sure, she'd done what was asked of her - and more - but now she felt as though she was sort of floundering, unsure of where she belonged, or what she was meant to be doing. A lifetime of restless wandering, and now ... well/i>, now, she's got a reason to stay, something to keep her grounded, someone to consider home.
"I do", she says, glancing at Cassian and sharing a quick, small smile. "With all my heart."
