[ word on the streets of Dorado was if you wanted to avoid trouble that the last place anyone would want to be tonight was the waterfront commercial district. after dark it was a breeding ground for gang activity and tonight was no different. members of the town's infamous gang Los Muertos were gathering together to oversee a deal with their weapon supplier in an abandoned industrial complex that had once served as a receiving plant for LumériCo during it's energy ziggurat's construction.
after the ambush in Egypt he knew Morrison was going to be eager to find a lead or a connection that with the right amount of pressure would give the old soldier the ability to track down his real target. so reaper made a point to give clear instructions to his operatives to make sure Los Muertos supplier's name was whispered in just the right ears.
Reaper knew hearing the name Talon would be like dropping bloody bait in an ocean full of hungry sharks. Now all he had to do was wait, albeit patiently, for the old soldier to arrive. Of course, that meant Morrison would have to work for his meal as the wraith had placed members of a violent gang and terrorists between them. reyes never cared about the casualties of war and if everyone on the ground level died just to give him a shot at Jack then it would all be worth the carnage. ]
[76 is not, predictably, avoiding trouble. Trouble is exactly where he wants to be, and he wants to be the one causing it, at least for the people who think they can get away with shuffling illegal government munitions through Dorado. What he's caught wind of this time, however, is something a little bigger than punk kids fooling around with military-grade weaponry.
He's stopped thinking about how predictable he may or may not be, though he does consider the possibility that after Egypt, all of this is a trap. The larger part of him is completely beyond caring. 76 will follow Reaper to the ends of the earth and fight his way through whatever's thrown between them if it means he can put him down.
So when he hears Talon, he knows it's a setup, but he chases it anyway because that's all he knows how to do. He's outnumbered as usual, but not outmatched, so he foregoes subtlety as he dispatches the first set of guards. 76 wants Reaper to know that he's here.]
[ with the trap laid reaper floats half in the physical world and half in the cold emptiness that awaits him between his two constantly fluxing states of existence. his personal vanguard has explicit orders to engage at the first sound of gunfire and the first shots echo out it's his laughter echoes out as he turns towards the direction of the sound. after all this time suffering, it's second nature to let go and meld with the shadows. What's left is nothing more than a black smoke that coalesces like windswept ash that is being quickly carried in 76's direction.
in the meantime, gang members and talon agents alike are beginning to converge on the old soldier's position. the next group of color body painted Los Muertos hooligans seem to think metal pipes, chains, and handguns will stand a chance against a trained military mind. the greater threat was the talon agents who had begun to flank the group with semi-automatic weapons enhanced for greater accuracy with laser scopes.
keeping hidden in the shadows the black mass that is and is not him arrives just in time to see the next wave begin their assault on the lone soldier, and immediately desiring a higher vantage point he shadow steps along the roof and waits.]
[76 cuts through their numbers easily, like he always does, but he knows these are just the front-line mooks. Talon isn't going to waste their good agents to start--they'll wait for him to tire himself out before sending in the big guns.
Or Reaper, whoever comes first. He likes to think that Reyes, despite everything he's done so far, isn't a coward. They both relish a challenge, for better or for worse. It makes victory that much more satisfying.
Either way, they must know he can do this without breaking a sweat, and he deftly extricates himself from a vulnerable, out-in-the-open position at the first signs of assault weaponry. There are plenty of ins and outs of the dock complex to navigate, and 76 makes a beeline for a fire escape system, hoping to vanish into the darker areas of the complex and flank the flankers.
He has to keep in mind, however, that there are, more likely than not, other things waiting for him in the dark.]
so i went to blizzcon and pre/post con life was crazy
[far from a coward. reyes over the years was never afraid of taking on the front lines if it meant getting a job done because it would be done right. however, most of those years were spent serving as leader of blackwatch where reyes grew to develop a fond appreciation for diversion tactics.
lingering in the shadows when he knows morrison so close enough to shoot so easily is difficult, his ghastly fingers twitch to feel his shotguns in his hands so he settles for creeping out and into the light and concentrating until his upper half solidifies.
he's counting on jack to notice him as he takes his place under the nearest street lamp as if he's posing center stage.]
Should've retired while you had the chance, Old man.
( ooc: i totally understand if this isn't something you wanna keep doing since it's been a while. let me know if you wanna stop/or start something new )
[There he is. 76 feels some satisfaction having lured him out this quickly, but he’s not so cocky as to think that this won’t go very badly for him if he doesn’t play his cards right. He comes to a stop, rifle at the ready, scanning the area for potential escape routes or places that Reaper’s allies might be hiding. He doesn’t expect Reyes to play fair, especially if 76 manages to turn the tables against him.}
Too bad for you.
[They both know there’s no retirement until one or both of them are dead—ideally, they’ll take each other out. 76 approaches every encounter like it might be their last.]
Call off your dogs. [He’s not in the mood for interruptions.] This is between you and me.
[ a raspy laugh escapes from his chest as he catches the unmistakable glint of light as his former comrade scans the surrounding area for any further threats. if he could feel warmth then he was sure that at this moment he'd feel the heat of contentment of the old soldier's paranoia. ]
Could say the same for you but then again you never knew when to quit.
[ malice and hate drip through every guttural word spoken from behind his mask but in the end, he shrugs with open hands down and towards those around him. ]
Not everyone here takes orders from me.
[ los Muertos for one, but that's not what he wants 76 to dwell on. it's the others that might be here, hidden away on high or in the shadows. how often did reaper travel alone these days - hardly ever and he was overseeing a weapon deal. ]
If you want me ...
[ stepping forward he beckons to morrison from the scaffolding, gauntlet claws glimmering in the lamp lights. ]
Come and get me.
[ always one for corny dramatic effects, he cackles as the shotguns materialize under his fingers and there is a satisfying thrum of energy as the darkness around him billows out and explodes along with the release of bullets in every direction. ]
[Perhaps in a less dire circumstance, 76 would be rolling his eyes. Unfortunately, Reaper still knows exactly how to bait him, and he's not going to pass up this fight when it's just within his reach. It might be tactically stupid and more risk than reward, but he won't let Reaper slip through his fingers again.
Which means that as soon as he's prompted, 76 is in pursuit, even as Reaper opens fire. He does his best to stay out of the way, waiting for him to exhaust himself or reload, but pushing forward regardless. He catches the lip of the scaffolding and hoists himself up, pushing himself into a sprint to close the distance.
He's quick to level his gun and start firing in turn.]
